(This is mostly meant to be a general summary of my hc, so apologies for the writing quality!)
Mandy was born and raised just outside San Francisco with her mother, father, and younger sister.Her family was a fundamentally religious one, and there was never conversation regarding Mandy being anything but devout. Yet from a young age, she always had a fascination with superheros, despite her parentās insistence that they were all satanic. She secretly wrote fan mail to heroes, and would hide posters under her bed. Often, Mandy would close her bedroom door and often tie yellow shirts around her neck and pretend it was a cape, just like her favorite superhero, SunBeam. Whenever her parents picked up on even her slightest mention of Trackstar, theyād scold her and rant for hours about the ungodly nature of superpowers in this world.
When she was 17, two enhanced villains robbed the antique store her father owned, while Mandy was there working. What she didnāt know was that they were looking for a mysterious amulet that her father had acquired days earlier. She hid with her father in the back room while the villains raided, and stumbled upon the very thing they were in pursuit of. The amulet, inexplicably, felt as though it were calling to her. The two villains shot the door to the back room, confronting and threatening her father. Terrified, Mandy gave in to the amuletās pleading, put it over her head, and transformed into the Blonde Blazer.
The surge of energy and power was immediate and intense. As Blazer struggled to make sense of what had happened, the only thing she registered was her father being grabbed by one of the villains. Instinctually, energy rays burst from her hands, the rays of gold exploding into her surroundings.
In the aftermath, Mandy found that the villains were dead. And so was her father.
The following weeks, she took it upon herself to atone for killing her father by submerging herself into vigilante superhero work as Blonde Blazer. Her mother, wrapped in her grief under the impression that her husband was killed by the villains, never noticed her daughterās late nights and unexplainable injuries. One late night, she and Mandy ended up screaming at each other over the circumstances. Her mother wished death upon the local so-called superheroes who didnāt save her husband. Unable to stand it anymore, Mandy decided in that moment that she was leaving home for good. She told her sister she loved her, shot one last tearful look at her mother, and stormed out the door.
She dropped out of school and lived out of her car for two months before seeing a recruitment poster for the Superhero Dispatch Network in Torrance. She applied, putting that she was 19, and got the job. For the next 9 years, Blazer worked on their G-Team. She finally started to feel fulfilled, getting to save citizens every single day. She fell in love with the city, LA starting to feel like home. She dated Phenomaman, her alien teammate, adoring his oblivious nature, his selfless disposition, his sweet ways that he showed his love. She started to gain recognition among the people. Kids would cheer for Blonde Blazer as she flew by, and every time, her heart would fill just a little bit more.
But the fame grew tiring. Mandy didnāt want to be famous. She started to long for a normal life, to settle down with Katon-Ur, share a home and raise kids together. So, when the Torrance branch leader retired and Mandy was offered the job, it didnāt take much time to make up her mind. She left the fast-paced heroics behind, realizing that she may not directly save lives, but she could make a lasting difference now.
Blazer had always fantasized about starting the Z-Team, a recovery program to rehabilitate villains. It was the first thing she began working on after her promotion. It was difficult. The team cycled through probably 13 different dispatchers, and Mandy was starting to doubt that these people had any hope of changing for the better.
And just as she was prepared to give up hope, Mecha Man awoke.
