We’re not supposed to judge poor people for getting the tiny amounts of joy they can out of life such as splurging on a $5 Starbucks coffee, and rightly so, but when I, a poor person, splurge on a $5 box of Gardein porkless pockets maybe once a month at the most suddenly it’s “Wow, veganism is so expensive. If you think poor people can be vegan you’re an asshole.”

CAFAB means "coercively assigned female at birth" which since all birth assignment is coercive (i.e without consent, its on a literal baby) it means the same as AFAB. It was coined by trans women to highlight the coercieve nature of birth assignment and has since also been taken up by intersex rights activists with varying degrees of obscuring the original meaning

Oh, okay! Yeh I'd been told otherwise and also seen people use it to mean "cis and female at birth" which has just made it massively confusing all-round. Thanks!!!

I can’t find the origin of it but I’ve been told by intersex people it means “coercively assigned female at birth” (coercively referring to surgeries etc) and not to use it for non-intersex people ? If that’s wrong then OK but I was trying to be helpful

I think the confusion is because people can say "cafab" and mean

1. "Coercively assigned female at birth" - intersex people

2. "Coercively assigned female at birth" - trans men + AFAB NB people

3. "Cis and female at birth" - cis women

and then not know how other people are using it ???
