Of course it was Grimes! Claire Boucher has been making a name for herself and is already standing in the front lines as a headliner while she tours the world. Visions is a blend of all types of influences from mariah carey to aphex twin that mold this synth pop gem into an album that will transcend certain stereotypes and reach listeners in general who have love for digital and synth driven songs in this digitalized world. Grimes is just getting started and i bet 2013 will be just as great for her.

Until the Quiet Comes is a masterpiece derived of down tempo jazz and hip hop that can only be captured by Flying Lotus.

Artist : Holy Other

Album : Held

I listen to this album almost every day. It is dark and lonely and an invitation into the artists emotions. Held does for me what a lot of albums weren't able to; evoke deep emotions from track to track with heavy bass and ethereal samples. Theres something really special about this album and i think its the sensitivity and beautifulness that emits.

Artist : Captain Murphy 

Album : Duality

Oh man! Captain Murphy a.k.a. Flying Lotus has come out with another masterpiece late this year. Duality has invigorated my love for hip hop with haunting imagery mixed with great vocals and, legendary samples. This is clearly Flying Lotus's year as he now has two albums in my top 5. He teams up with with an all star cast composing of JustBlaze, Earl Sweatshirt, and Madlib to produce some jams that will be bumping in my stereo all year. Oh, and the video is amazing and everyone should witness its amazing visuals!

Black and Beautiful is a beautiful mess of Dean Blunt & Inga Copeland's mind. They let us in and remind us of their lo fi aesthetic. the album is comprised of 15 tracks titled as 1-15 with only three of the tracks passing the 3 minute mark.

Album : Mature Themes 

Love him or hate him? Ive come to know Ariel Pink's work as highly polarizing. I happen to love him and his strange ever evolving music. Still seeing him live has been a high point in my life. Certain things i would like to forget, but it was an epic night that had me waking up in a strangers house. Mature Themes is very different from his previous album. Relying more on guitar work and less synth than before, Ariel Pink brings us more alterative indie pop type songs that are fun and strange.

Album : Nootropics 

I remember the first time i heard their first album. I was blown away by their guitar swells and reverb heavy leads and couldn't help but think they were going to be around for a long time. After i heard Nootropics its safe to say i got that feeling all over again. With better production and some musical growth, the Lower Dens have rediscovered themselves and are growing into deeper depths as a band.

Killer Mike has been in the game for a long time, but this year he has broken out with his new album R.A.P. Music. He is recently getting all the attention and acolades that he has deserved for the most part of his career. This album is a beautiful ode to his love of hip hop and pioneers from the rap golden age. Killer mike's lyrics are great, well derived and thought out spreading a message of positivity and intelligence.

The Men evoke their inner Dinosaur Jr. in order to deliver some serious riffage and guitar rhythms that leave the listener wanting more. The Men stay true to their craft and dont put out any half assed songs, ever. They combine all their energy to put on great shows that will undeniably leave you perspiring and out of breath. They put on one hell of a show and everyone who gets the chance must see them in action.

Richly complex and full of emotion are Daniel Rossen's vocals.

Animal Collective has had an influence in my life. I can recall some experiences good and bad that have happened with an AnCo song playing in the background. I will always have a place in my ipod or playlist for Animal Collective, especially this track that i have loved so much for so long.
