Soundings Presents: Larry Narron

Larry Narron grew up in San Diego County and graduated from the University of California, Berkeley. His poems have appeared in or are forthcoming in Whiskey Island, Eleven Eleven, The Round, The Sandy River Review, Zaum, Suisun Valley Review, The Lincoln Underground, Avalon Literary Review, and The Quietry. A volunteer English tutor at Portland Community College, Larry is currently a poetry student in the low residency MFA in Writing program at Pacific University, Oregon.

Soundings Presents: Wendy Chin-Tanner

Join us at Ford Food + Drink this Saturday, August 9th at 7 for the next edition of Soundings.

Wendy Chin-Tanner is the author of the poetry collection Turn (Sibling Rivalry Press, 2014) and co-author of the graphic novel American Terrorist (A Wave Blue World). Her work has appeared at Vinyl Poetry, The Rumpus, Denver Quarterly, The Mays Anthology of Oxford and Cambridge, and elsewhere. She is a founding editor at Kin Poetry Journal, poetry editor at The Nervous Breakdown, staff interviewer at Lantern Review, and co-founder at A Wave Blue World. Born and raised in NYC, she was educated at Cambridge University, UK and now lives in Portland, OR.

Soundings Presents: Jon Backmann

Jon Backmann grew up in Wisconsin, earned his B.A. in 2011 at Case Western University in Cleveland, OH, and graduated with an M.F.A. in Poetry from the University of Montana in 2013. He currently lives and writes in Portland.

Acroyear is Luis Tataje. Local foreign nationalist creating sonic landscapes in PDX and SFO since 1998. Dark, visceral , sometimes a-rhythmic but always thought - provoking. Creating dubplates for the former Portland based dub label BSI Records(Systemwide/Muslimgauze/BeWa/Twilight Dub Circus) to doing various remixing projects local and abroad.

Soundings - Sam Roxas-Chua tomorrow!

Sam Roderick Roxas-Chua grew up in Glendale, California. Sam has read for Oregon Poetry Association and the Windfall Reading Series. He is currently published by The Inflectionist Review and Open2Interpretation. His first collection of poems is titled “Fawn Language” published by Tebot Bach of Huntington Beach, CA. He is a member of Red Sofa Poetry Critique Group and Centrum’s Madrona Writers Group in Port Townsend, WA. Sam lives in Eugene, Oregon and is a student at Pacific University’s MFA in Writing program. Join us at Soundings for a preformance by The OO-Ray.

Ford Food + Drink 7pm

The OO-Ray is the alias of Ted Laderas, an improvisatory and experimental cellist from Portland, OR. A systems biologist by day, he extends his experimental attitude to exploring the outer possibilities of the cello, often distorting, looping, or pitchshifting his instrument beyond recognizability into waves of reverberation and extended drones. Inspired by the gauzy textures of My Bloody Valentine, he call his style “shoegazer cello” or “chamber drone”. His music explores the realms of electroacoustic, shoegazer, and ambient.

Amy Temple Harper was born in Korea and is the author of “Cramped Uptown” by Spork Press. Her poetry has been published by The Oregon Literary Review, Portland Review, and Nailed Magazine. She is a teacher and a mother.
