The Times attacks trans teenager for applying to Jo Cox leadership programme

The Times newspaper has repeatedly taken aim at a transgender teenager, most recently because she reportedly applied to the Jo Cox leadership programme.

The Times isn’t the only newspaper joining in the fun, either.

These journalists know what they’re doing. They remember that the last time the British press hyper-focused on a single trans woman she took her own life (cw #suicide #transmisogyny). So when they put pen to paper week after week to attack a trans woman who has committed no crime except to attempt to involve herself in public life, there is only one goal they can possibly have:

They’re trying to kill her.

55 Labour activists involved in the Jo Cox Women in Leadership scheme wrote to the newspaper to defend Ms Madigan in response.

The Times declined to publish the letter, in spite of extensive coverage criticising the student.

The Times can publish weeks upon weeks of deeply personal attacks on a teenager, but when people call them out and prove them wrong, the Times ignores it.

This is misinformation. The blogs they deleted were investigated and confirmed to have ties with the IRA (Internet Research Agency, affiliated with the Russian government). They were among thousands of people working to spread disinformation during the election. Stop spreading more misinformation. Except that we’ve known that Russian trolls posed as BLM activists on tumblr since last month. We knew they were doing this, we just didn’t know which specific accounts they were. But this isn’t really news at all.

It totally makes sense Russia did this, we’ve already had confirmation they were posing as BLM activists and other left-leaning political blogs on Tumblr from major news sites for a long while. Wake up and smell the flowers, Russia has been fucking with us. Tumblr likely has been working with the FBI and other federal authorities to identify the accounts. They don’t have to be “transparent” when it’s already transparently obvious what happened and how they did it. They can’t be specific because that would be giving away how the FBI tracked down the accounts, as likely their methods are classified so that Russia doesn’t figure out how to go around them. Everything checks out.
