Peder Mannerfelt: "You can be deep and dark and still smile!"

A remarkable producer and a singular artist who's been serving as one of Sweden’s leading electronic figures for the last decade. For his new release on Archives Intérieures (The Swedish Congo Record), Peder takes us back to the Belgian Congo in the 1930's. We caught up with him in Stockholm to chat about this exotic collection of sounds, which he decided to recreate using only synthesizers. Talent Bazaar: The Innernettes

The Innernettes are a music duo from Brazil, formed by Vinicius Cabral and Christian Bravo. They would describe their own sound as lounge music for bankrupt video stores... or a cassette mixtape of spoiled and defective house music. We spoke to Vinicius to find out more about their obscure yet intriguing concept that nowadays is widely (un)known as vaporwave. Interview + Mix: Black Swan

We have no idea who’s the person behind the Black Swan (Drones For Bleeding Hearts) project (okay, that’s not entirely true anymore), but that’s maybe for the best. Since the beginning of this decade we get our yearly fair share of haunting drones from New York and we should not question their origins. Black Swan's last album ‘Tone Poetry’ came out in January 2014, and it turned out to be our #1 of the year. Ten years after his debut-album 'Herbstlaub', German ambient composer Marsen Jules takes us to his 'Empire of Silence', an impressing soundtrack to the epic power and beauty of Nordic snow and ice-landscapes. Although here in Stockholm we are still quite a bit away from the scenery Jules is dedicating the album to, we are proud to present one of the eight tracks entitled 'tlaslo', which means snow that falls slowly in Inuit language.

LABEL Q&A: Alien Transistor

Alien Transistor was founded in 2003 by Markus and Micha Acher from The Notwist. The label’s concept is quite an interesting one: to produce music that has a musical or personal relation to the Notwist-microcosm. From electronic soundscapes through abstract hip-hop to laptop-treated contemporary, from processed oriental music to Nick Drake-inspired-songwriting: Alien Transistor doesn’t respect any musical boundaries. However, we do respect Alien Transistor, so we spoke to Markus who also prepared a mix for us.

Kreng: "The record is not dedicated to the people who are dead, it’s a record for the living."

It was about time for a new batch of haunting sounds, although the circumstances around the genesis of ‘The Summoner‘ could not have been more harrowing: it is based around the five stages of mourning, been made after a year of losing several close friends. We were curious to hear more about 'The Summoner', which was released on 6 February on Miasmah. We asked Pepijn about his most personal work up to this date, his perception of death, and you can also read a bit about his recent film-related works.
