Summary: Tyler Raith was an ordinary citizen, nothing special in the grand scheme of things. Until she fought for a tour of banned entertainers and was then given the responsibility of the Grand Resurrection Tour. She continued to argue that she was nothing special, it was the music that was important, but she would eventually learn that sometimes nobody special could start an entire revolution. In the meantime, she was busy wrangling rockstars and simply trying to survive.

In 2228, Law T-5 was passed to regulate all forms of entertainment. Performers were blindsided and forcibly retired, after deciding that they wouldn’t only create what the government mandated.

In 2232, Tyler Raith fought for and received approval for a government sanctioned tour of musicians that had been legally banned from ever performing again.

In 2233, the Grand Resurrection Tour began.

first verse: introducing all the characters, original and "canon" for lack of a better term, as well as all the things leading up to the tour.

main chorus: the 400 chapters that cover every day of the tour. literally, one day per chapter.

bridge: any scenes outside of the main fic. flashback scenes, anything that doesn't fit, if anyone is curious about something not in the main fic(s).

outro: the aftermath of the tour. more accurately, the consequences of the tour.

breakdown: a little fic to explain the world i have been building. history and all the stuff that is probably very boring but that i have dedicated hours to creating.

i think that makes sense. because i realize this is a story about some old bands going on tour, but it has grown into a complicated alternate universe. this could be the hyperfixation talking, but i love this fic so much. i'm creating my own world(s), designing maps of all things, mixing cultures and religions, attempting to learn math to figure out travel schedules. i am dedicated and in love, and i want to do this right.

i am also rambling into the void out of excitement. i think i'm going to create some new maps and figure out climates.

also, how long does it take to fall in love? platonically and romantically?

Thank you for the ask, lovely anon! I’ve been on a Soundtrack kick lately, which has ridiculously long chapters, so here’s a nice long scene from the fourth chapter.

“Walk?” Tyler asked once they were standing outside. It didn’t really matter where the restaurant was in the district, he was sure they could both walk the distance with ease, and he didn’t want to sit in a confined car right now.

“Walk,” he agreed and let Tyler lead. She might have been a foot shorter than him, but her strides were quick without seeming rushed. They walked in silence at first, and it was a comfortable silence that didn’t need to be interrupted. Didn’t stop Matt from asking, “What’s your favorite color?”

“That’s a bit random.” Tyler squinted a little as she looked up at him, but she was smiling. Tyler had a nice smile, he decided. Bright and unrestrained, like even her simple facial expressions couldn’t help but be honest.

“We’re friends, and friends know things about each other. So, favorite color?” he asked again. He could hear Tyler laughing as she reached over to lace her arm through his, and they bumped against each other as they settled into a rhythm while walking down the sidewalk.

“When I was in primary, I told my teacher that my favorite color was brown. Because I liked gardening with my neighbor, and dirt is brown. So, my young mind associated the color brown with an activity that made me happy. Then my teacher told me that brown couldn’t be my favorite color, and I argued with her until I got sent home for the day.” Tyler told the story seriously, pulled them across the street and down another sidewalk, and then glanced up at him with a smile.

“Your favorite color is brown?” he asked her. It wasn’t a common answer, not really, but it wasn’t the weirdest thing he had ever heard. He’d had conversations with Jimmy at three in the morning, and nothing could top the weirdness of those conversations.

“No, it’s green. Like a healthy dark green, but I always think of that primary teacher when someone asks about my favorite color. It wasn’t the last time I got sent home for arguing with a teacher, but you always remember the first time,” she said with a full laugh this time.

Fridays were always a highly anticipated day, but Tyler didn’t feel any relief as she slid into her car after a long day at the clinic. It felt like she hadn’t stopped since the start of the week, it had been one emergency after another, and she was too exhausted to even feel relief at the thought of having two whole days to herself. She realized her hands were shaking as she reached out for the nav system, her fingers were practically vibrating as she put in her address, but she still reached down to turn on the car’s mobile system. There was absolutely no way that she was going to endure the silence and her own thoughts all the way home, and her eyes closed as the car came to life around her and a mobcast filtered through the speakers. Samara wouldn’t be mobcasting until later that night, but the voice sounded familiar. Maybe someone that Samara worked with?

10, 9 and 5 for Soundtrack of the Revolution

Thank you for the ask!! I love this story, it’s literally my oldest story of all-time, so I’m always happy to ramble about it for a bit.

10: Why did you choose this pairing for this particularly story?

I mean, have you seen Gerard Way? You have to remember, the main pairing was first chosen back in 2009. In the original version, the main pairing was also more of a SI!OC and Gerard. At this point, I’m choosing to keep the main pairing as Tyler and Gerard because they’ve earned each other. (I mean that in the best way possible.) In this strange twisted alternate universe story dressed up as a tour fic, Tyler and Gerard have both suffered and struggled. They’re going to continue to fight against the way that their world is, and they deserve happiness. It’s not destiny. It’s not love at first sight. (It’s not even lust at first sight.) They’re going to earn each other’s love, one day at a time.

9: Were there any alternate versions of this fic?

So many. The version being posted is the fourth version, I think? The first version was written in first perspective, and it was a collaborative effort between myself and the amazing friends I had made through a few years of writing band fics back in the early 2000s. The second version switched to third perspective and had some of the chosen bands changed. The third version changed the bands, again, and the main character had a name change. This version, the one that’s being posted, is going to be the final version because I can’t rewrite it again. All of the original characters have had name changes, background changes, and even endgame pairing changes. (With the exception of the main pairing. That’s never changed.) Even the bands have changed, for a final time. The one thing that has remained the same throughout the entirety of the differing versions, is that My Chemical Romance and Avenged Sevenfold are the main bands of the fic.

5: What part was hardest to write?

Right now, the most difficult thing is writing the moments leading up to the tour. In all of the other versions, the tour started by the third chapter and after less than ten thousand words. I’m trying to take my time, to explore the world and the characters, and it’s so difficult because I just want to get to the good stuff. I want to write the story properly though, so I’m making myself take it slow.

Tyler shifted in the most uncomfortable metal chair that she had ever sat in and slowly blew out a sigh up at the brightly lit ceiling. She considered herself to be a patient person, she usually had no problems with waiting, but there was something about the enclosed and very well-lit train station that made her feel claustrophobic. Maybe it was because there were no windows. The lack of windows made sense, from a safety perspective, but that logic didn’t stop her from feeling like she couldn’t take a full breath. Another shift in the chair caused her ribs to twinge, and she promised herself to avoid Emily and Alex the next time she needed to work out some frustration. Having them cheer her on while she attacked a punching bag had been a good way to calm her mind, but her left ribcage was upset with her for all of the violent movement. Next time, she was going to grab her favorite twins and watch violent action movies instead. Maybe tonight, she’d talk the twins into having a cuddle session. That always cheered her up, and she’d earned herself a little cheering up. Especially after sitting in this awful chair for over half an hour.

“I was a protective older sister and a dutiful daughter. I was a sentry, attentive to my post. To keep my family and my home safe, I let the government change my body on a fundamental level so that I could do what was necessary.”

“Does it count if he never heard me say it? I only said it once, but he wasn’t alive to hear it.”

“What can you tell us about the raid?”

“I can tell you that the last time my hands felt no pain, I was standing on a wall as it started to crumble and could feel hot metal against my palms as I tried to thin the swarm. Bones don’t snap when they break, they crunch. When your lover dies during a raid, you don’t have time to mourn. It’s possible to kill without the use of your hands, to save the life of someone you love.”

“Is there anything else?”

“Raids aren’t over in a day. I was still living through the raid when I fled the hospital and found my poison, but even the poison couldn’t burn the destruction out. The raid exists in the aching of my bones, the whispers of my nightmares, and it’s still there in the eyes of the survivors like a choking flame.”

“Don’t you understand? The person I was died that day, and I am the corpse still moving forward.”
