I’m not really so hard & cynical after all — in fact I’m still dangerously soft.

Some people will never fit into your life, no matter how much you want them to.

I wish I had a someone who would observe me silently, who would capture all my habits and quirks, and still love me. Someone that would get lost in how my fine features define my face, while smiling or crying, and still love me.

You sleep a lot. And then don’t sleep when you should.
The answer to mental pain isn’t for some guy to love you and show you that you are worthy. The answer is to figure out how to survive these events and hold onto your worth as you do this.

Dear Lady,
I’ve been working in this emergency department all day, your son has been here just as long. He’s 9 years old and he got in a fight with another little boy at school. You met the principal of the school only minutes after it happened, but when your son was taken by ambulance to our hospital you didn’t come with him.
As your son sat in a room alone all day watching Disney Channel we called and asked you to please come in and get him. You refused and hung up on us.
We tried calling you again. You told us to F*** off.
Later you sent your older daughter to come pick up your son. You daughter is also a minor. We cannot release your son to her.
After being called multiple times you came to the hospital, but refused to enter your sons room. The healthcare team sits down and talks to you. We suggest that he sees a counselor. You agree.
It takes the counselor two hours to come down. You’ve already left. The counselor doesn’t think he needs any inpatient care. Your son is ready to go home.
You are not here.
We call and you tell us that you’re too busy and just have him walk home.
We call social services and the police. Social services is overwhelmed and can’t do anything right now. My ten hour shift is over and as I peek in the room, your son is still sitting there alone.
I can picture what this boy will be like in a few short years. It will involve drugs and guns and who knows what else. His future scares me- and it’s your fault. People like you are why so many kids are so messed up.
You can call yourself whatever you like, but you do not get to call yourself his mother.
Parental License Revocation, Case #85572.
Child Protective Services Immediately. Geez. Poor, poor baby. 😳😟
The worst part- before I left one of the nurses was found yelling on the phone with social services because they were refusing to come down. Apparently if there’s a case already open on a kid its not their problem anymore.
The system stinks.
These stories such, but they are also why I am considering pediatrics - to give kids a second chance.
I want very badly to be in love again, which is why I’m in no position to look for it.

You keep telling me to be glad for what we had while we had it. That the brightest flame burns quickest. Which means you saw us as a candle. And I saw us as the sun.
Iain Thomas, I Wrote This For You (via wordsnquotes)
We used to have it all, but now’s our curtain call
So hold for the applause, oh
And wave out to the crowd, and take our final bow
Oh, it’s our time to go, but at least we stole the show
At least we stole the show
