Batik

It has arrived. Soybu’s brand new line of Active Fashion: Batik.

  Where did Batik come from (and how the heck do you say it?)  We sat down with Emily Seeler, Soybu’s pattern designer to get the scoop.

  Emily has traveled the world, first learning about print-making in Italy where she studied abroad. Batik, pronounced buh-teek, is actually an Indian technique that is hundreds of years old. It’s a process of hand-dyeing fabrics by using wax as a dye repellent to cover parts of a design. The wax is then removed with boiling water and ta-da! You have a super fresh, intricate, sexy design!

“It’s important to me that the pattern looks authentic, not super digital. It was hard to get to that place with the tie-die. It’s beachy; it’s Indian; it’s East meets West.”

  The new line is designed in gorgeous Spring colors with tons of variety to choose from.
