Black Phanter

I don’t think you can separate a movie with the political condition it released in.

Movies is a medium for people to express their idea. Historically, movies has been used to deliver political message or used as a propaganda medium to influence the masses. Thats why, Black Phanter comes at the right time that heighten the movies from great to almost pantheon level and will be remembered ages after.

Unlike a few last MCU movies (sans Homecoming) that only tell story about heroes triumph over villains, Black Phanter digs deeper than that. Its a story about redemption, about human rights, about moral choices. Even with its few plot holes, it layered enough that I forsake it because I am too eager and anticipating what will comes next. Too bad, in the end it become a cookie cutter story with predictable ending.

A standing ovation for the casting director. All character is on point and very memorable, the best group of talent in MCU hands down. Chad Boswick (Black Phanter) inject much needed human feeling to the larger than life king. And nothing more can I say about Michael B. Jordan’s (Killmonger) performance that thousand of others review said already. Its terrific, top three villain in MCU. All supporting character also has depth and not a two dimensional fooder.

On technical aspect, finally an MCU movies has memorable enough soundtrack that will not be easily forgotten even worth to add to your playlist. The african exploration feels are put to maximum level here resulting an epic feeling that different and very unique.

Wakanda is beautiful and believeable enough to be a living breathing city that probably existed in hidden part of our world. The cinematography is great with special emphasis on the fight scene that felt brutal and keeping me on the edge of my seats. The art direction of african influence is another success, the whole movie IS a celebration of african culture.

All in all, its a masterpiece on technical standpoint, the story is great but the all familiar cookie cutter end as well as several cliches dragged it down a bit.

Its definitely my personal top 3 MCU.

Novel Thriller ini sudah difilmkan di 2009 silam dan sialnya, saya sudah menonton terlebih dahulu filmnya jadi saya tidak bisa bilang apakah ceritanya mudah ditebak atau tidak. Tapi bisa saya pastikan, tahu twistnya atau tidak, tiap pembaca pasti akan menikmati perjalanannya ke sana. 

Its all about the journey, isn’t it? 

Cerita terbagi dalam 3 bagian yang diceritakan silih berganti, seorang anak kecil yang disiksa orang tuanya, seorang pematung yang sempurna yang mengalami tekanan dari lingkungannya, dan seorang jurnalis yang bertemu seorang pria. 3 cerita yang terlihat tanpa hubungan namun somehow saling berhubungan di akhir cerita.

Cerita yang membuat penasaran ditulis dengan bahasa yang lugas, terkadang formal namun tidak pretensius, menambah daya tarik untuk menghabiskan novel dalam sekali baca. Tapi hati-hati, ini adalah perjalanan gila, cockroach eating kind of crazy, yang diakhiri dengan keadaan yang lebih gila lagi.

Pernah bertaruh?

Rasanya ini pertama kalinya saya membaca sastra rusia. 1/3 awal cerita terasa lambat dan kita langsung diterjunkan serasa awal cerita adalah tengah-tengah dari kejadian yang dialami para karakter. Tapi percayalah, bertahanlah hingga suatu karakter muncul and it will paid off, ceritanya akan berjalan dengan lebih cepat dan tiba-tiba kau akan ada di halaman terakhir. Mungkin juga halaman yang tidak terlalu tebal membantu hal itu terjadi.

Buat yang suka dengan karakterisasi, novel ini punya segudang karakter dengan karakterisasi yang menarik. Emosi dari tiap karakter digambarkan dengan menawan, membuat kita tertegun kalau tidak semua hal akan berakhir dengan baik-baik saja. Penggambaran novelis terhadap perasaan-perasaan yang dialami ketika kita sedang bertaruh juga on-point. Rasa gemetaran menunggu hasil, euforia kemenangan, rasa penasaran akan kekalahan, kekacauan ketika uang yang dimiliki semakin menipis, dan yang paling berbahaya, berpikiran seolah kita bisa mengalahkan takdir ketika kemenangan beruntun sedang terjadi. That One More Times Feels.

No offense untuk penerjemah, tapi sepertinya ada yang “ga masuk” sama terjemahannya. Belum lagi cukup banyak typo yang saya temukan selama membacanya. Saya pikir akan lebih baik jika kalian membeli versi bahasa inggrisnya.

Saya suka ranking dan penilaian. Saya merasa kalau perspektif seseorang terhadap valuasi akan sesuatu bisa menjadi bahasan diskusi menarik sembari menunggu bola besi itu pulang pada hitam, atau merah.

Scattered Thought

I think we should (or shouldn't) do things because of its the right thing to do and not because we hope we get some kind of rewards in the afterlife. But since doing things for personal gains is our nature, my belief referring more to not doing something just because of you afraid of what waiting in the afterlife.

As long as we don't harm other humans, animal, plants, or the earth, in my opinion, it is okay to do things you want (like sex or drinking alcohol) because I believe our God is not a dictator. Don't you think its silly when good people will face hell only because they expressing their love while fulfilling their needs (both are referring to sex)?

And that's why I don't care with solat berjamaah because I don't care about the benefit of praying. I do it because I believe in it. I have faith in connecting with our God through praying. 

And to think the God wants us to starve ourselves for a month and will punish us if we don’t do it, don’t you think that it is not right? I don’t know. Help me out I guess.
