Althea freezes. Her hand finding its way to her side where she stores her gun. She doesn’t grab it yet but she’s ready just incase.

Hello?

The voice stops at the sound of Althea, as if freezing. It’s silent for a few moments before she gets a quiet response from not to far away, maybe a few steps, hidden behind trees.

Who’s there?

Althea. Who are you?

There’s a sigh of relief and the sound of something resting back against the ground.

It’s Mouse.

Oh! Mouse. You scared me.

Althea pulls her hand away from her gun.

Sorry- I kind of tripped and didn’t know you were there.

Mouse doesn’t make an effort to sit up yet, so she doesn’t know if Althea can see her yet or not.

Althea starts to head to where she heard Mouse last.

Oh well I’m glad to see ya, wanted to talk anyways

Mouse pushes herself to sit up as she hears Althea approaching, not yet remembering the blood and dirt covering her from disposing evidence.

Mhm, well you see I was wondering’ if you where poly?

She falls silent as she considers this for a moment before pursing her lips slightly.

Uh, no. It’s not really for me. I’m sorry… why are you asking?

Mouse’s cheeks flush and she gives Althea a soft sort or smile from her spot in the ground when she comes into sight.

Althea blinks when she see Mouse. Honestly though she isn’t too surprised, already given fair warning.

So how’s Max?

Well, just before I left he was out cold on the pull out. Other than that I think it’s mostly been shock? He seems numb, like he’s shutting down.

She moves to stand, wiping her hands off before wrapping them around her middle and she tilts her head in the direction of the cabin.

Come on, I’ve already sorted things out here if you want to check on him.

Alright, let’s head that way then.

She nods to Mouse, planning on following behind her

Mouse happily leads the way, humming softly. It doesn’t take long before they get to the cabin, and she finds it strange how she now has two people here, no one but her, her Father and his hunting buddies ever come here. She was told she wasn’t allowed to let people over.

She shakes these thoughts from her head and instead focuses on opening the door, letting Althea walk in first.

Althea steps into the house, she looks around the place.

This is nice, very pretty.

Her eyes land on Max and she sighs.

Mouse steps in behind her and shuts the door.

I gave him a change of clothes and let him shower, as well as gave him something to eat-

That’s good, thank ya for taken care of him.

I just tried to do what I could.

She glances up at Althea and blushes slightly, quietly clearing her throat.

W-we can go sit in my room? Unless you want to stay out here with him-

Althea sighs. She takes one last glance and makes sure he’s tucked in.

We can go to your room. Being out here we might wake him.

Mouse nods softly before leading the way down the hall. She stops nervously in front of a door, glancing back at Althea before opening to the door to her room, a surprisingly comfortable space with an old dog bed push into the area near her bed. She’d never had anyone else in her room before.

This is nice.

Althea looks around.

Uhh is there a place I can sit?

You can sit on the bed or at my desk, just make yourself comfortable

Mouse motions to the spinny wheel my chair at her desk before moving to sit on her bed, bring her legs up and crossing them.

Althea plops down on the spiny chair. She takes her hat off and sets it on the desk. She sighs as she runs a hand through her hair.

So you have a dog?

She gestures to the dog bed

Mouse glances to the dog bed and her expression sort of drops before she shakes her head.

Uhm, no. Not anymore. Just, haven’t gotten around to getting rid of it.

She never thought she’d have to make an excuse for why the old dog bed sits there.

Oh. I’m sorry.

Althea shifts a little awkwardly.

Wanna hug or somethin’? Doesn’t have to be a hug, could be like… a distraction? Change of subject?

She blinks, falling silent for a moment before slowly nodding her head, almost unsure. She doesn’t remember the last time someone’s offered her a hug, or actually given her one.

Mouse moves to stand as well, hesitating before answering and stepping closer. She’s reminded of their height difference as she’s forced to look up at Althea.
