I was thinking about arcane and its season two intro, specifically what the weight means. So far my best guess is that the light represents identity
Vi - Vi is now struggling with her identity. In season one her identity was that she was going to find powder but after the tea party that is not exactly what she wants anymore. She smudges her tattoo (of her name (identity)) and moves out of the light. The light later goes over her in a V for vi then goes over her fists (which have been core part of her identity for ever but that is somewhat changing)
Jinx - jinx stands up and into the light, as if finally knowing who she is and that she is jinx.
Caitlyn - Caitlyn stands as if she is walking into the light of a stage. Her mother has died and we know she becomes the next sheriff / general whatever you want to call it. She is stepping into this new identity of being a leader and being someone with power. I also think the light shows how she is being driven apart, she’s going insane like jinx was in the first season. A bright purple(like seen with jinx) X the a blue V flashes over the screen (again like the blue associated with jinx) is put over her family crest. The lights all flash as she clutches her head then shine on her. She has her hands over her head like she’s hiding from the light (or somthing she’s terrified she’s done? The light turns fingers red also like there’s blood on their hands) and casts a shadow behind her that makes her look like a monster (and is lined with the jinx blue and pink)
For the other characters I have weaker ideas but here they are anyway
Mel - Mel is fully lit but still has the blade of light running through her like it’s splitting her in half. In the first season she was powerful, she had most of the counselors under her thumb, until her mother showed up (Mel’s relationship with family is so interesting) . Mel is still a counselor but has none of the power she did before. Maybe she is grappling with becoming a different person / finding a different version of power? There’s also the hands that block out the light and maybe make her loose her identity? When she comes back it’s like she’s fighting against the hands so fighting for her identity but then she is where he mom was, with the flower and the petals, but unlike her mom she carefully reaches for the flower. This reminds me of the scene from season one of Mel’s backstory with her mother and the girl.
Jayce - Jayce is being blinded by the light almost like how he was blinded by becoming a counselor and somewhat blinded by Mel, however in this season so far he isn’t in love with being the political figure he was before
Ambessa - ambessa is completely comfortable in the light it’s cutting across her but not in the same way it cuts across Mel. The only think I can think of is that the light is dividing the part of her that has pulled the flower apart and the part that is considering it? This doesn’t feel very strong but it’s the best I can come up with lol. I know the flower is a symbol of the old regime / the witches that use a magic different than the hex magic but I haven’t completely figured it out.
And for the character I have the weakest ideas about
Ekko - ekko runs and jumps over the light. I might be crazy or over thinking it but the way ekko runs reminds me of how viktor ran. I don’t really know for him since he seems very confidant about his identity (and runs along the light) and jumps around the light but not in a way that he’s trying to avoid it it almost looks like he’s jumping with it? That doesn’t really make sense lol. In the first shot of him he stands confidently in the light, though the light is at his back and makes him into a clock which goes back to his thing with time.
Viktor - viktor has a light cutting across him but it doesn’t touch his face and only the mask in his hand. The mask is also glowing brighter than the line. The mask (or the person vikto turn himself into maybe?) overshadows his identity but his identity also leads to it?
Last thoughts: In the last seconds it almost victor is the light and Jayce is looking at him? Also at the end of Jayce’s close up it kind of looks like his expression softens, so maybe the light for Jayce is not being a councilor but has somthing to do with viktor? Then again I should probably be asleep so maybe none of this makes sense
Anyway what is everyone else’s thoughts about this? Specifically thoughts about Ekko and the light or Mel?
More art, I meant to post this like 2 weeks ago lol
