âHey.â Clarkâs voice was quiet, but he smiled. âWe should -â He paused, tentative. âWe should talk, yeah?â He searched Dickâs eyes, for some sign of - what, he wasnât sure. He set down the pizzas and sodas and moved towards the living room. âCome here.â He held out an arm, and smiled, soft. âDonât worry. I sound ominous but I just want - to talk about us. I think we should.â
Barbara shook her head, eyes wide and haunted-looking. âNo. No, Iâm fine. They didnât touch me - I didnât even see them - but they took Jason and I donât know how and I donât know where, Kori. I donât know what to do.â Her breaths were coming in shallow and quick, and she glanced up at Raven, who was watching the corridor carefully and scanning it with her magics. âGood. You brought help.â
Kyle winced as Garth revealed the wound fully, along with the other scratches and bruises decorating his body. âIâll get soap and water.â He said, moving into the kitchen to fill a basin and grab a washcloth. âWhat happened? Were you and Aquaman fighting someone? I can alert the Justice League if they need to check on himâŠI have the Flashâs number around here somewhereâŠâ
âI mean someone shut it off, and thatâs not easy to do.â Bruce frowned, grabbing his utility belt from the workbench and strapping it on. He raised a brow as they moved towards the garage, going for the batmobile. âYou think Harley knew this was coming - or sheâsâŠsheâs planning revenge?â His jaw tightened. âAnother kidnapping? They canât - they canât handle that. We canât.â He took a deep breath. âI thought she didnât want that life anymore.â
Kara was in her uniform in the blink of an eye, and she used her cape to divert the path of the gas canister, knocking it away from Kate. âCome on.â She said, grabbing her arm. âI can fly us out of here - weâve gotta figure out whatâs going on -â
Dick relaxed some. Clark didnât look like he was ready to kick him out at least. He stepped forward into Clarkâs arms. âYeah, we probably should talk. My feelings havenât changed, Clark. Except only to get stronger. I know I probably shouldnât have let myself⊠but Iâve never felt safer in my life. Iâm happy now. I donât wake up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat and screaming. I donât see danger around every corner. Youâve helped me become stronger just by being around and in the process I just⊠kind of fell even more in love with you. Iâm so sorry, Clark.â
âWe got here as quickly as we could.â Kori helped Babs to stand up, holding her close. âRoy is in your apartment, in case there are other clues. ButâŠâ She looked to Raven for a moment before back to her other friend. âYou should suit up and we will go to the Cave of Bats.â
âIt was his brother, Orm, again.â Garth sighed, a hand on his side. âHe keeps trying to steal the Throne of Atlantis. His armies often poison their weapons and while I am immune to most toxins, they keep finding new ways to mutate them.â Hissing some, he peeled off his boots as well. âI am sorry for intruding on your life so much. But Aquaman will be able to handle his brother. Queen Mera will aid him.â Garth sat in his little shorts, staring at the strange walls around him. âYour home is nice. Warm.â
Diana gripped her sword. âI donât think this fits with what we know about Harley,â she said thoughtfully. âPerhaps she saw this coming and fled, but I donât think she has a hand in it. Do we need to alert the rest of your team?â She looked up as another alarm went off and frowned at the screen. âHow can you tell who this one belongs to?â
Kate was already changing and immediately pulled on her cowl. âWe need to get to the Bat Cave right now. As fast as you can get me there without turning me into jelly.â She took a deep breath. âAnd call Conner, tell him to not let Tim out of his sight.â
Clark melted, in an instant, his heart filling with warmth. His touch was light, tender. âPlease donât apologize for that.â He said, and leaned forward, letting his lips meet Dickâs at last. He pressed in softly, giving Dick room to pull away if he wanted to. He knew there was plenty more to say, but this kiss felt long overdue. He couldnât help it.
Babs nodded, a bit numbly. âThanks for coming.â She let Kori guide her into the apartment and went straight for her gear, getting changed quickly as the other three convened in the living room. âI sensed nothing with my magic,â Raven confessed as Babs stepped back out of her room. âNo trace to track him with.â
Kyle smiled, kneeling at the side of the couch with his basin. âThanks. Iâm a graphic designer, so I have a bit of any eye for composition.â He dipped a washcloth into the warm, soapy water and raised it to the wound. âThis might sting - let me know if you need a break.â He was gentle as he cleaned the wound, touch delicate. He couldnât help but admire Garth, the lovely and strong lines of his body. It was clear he was powerful, graceful. It must have taken a lot to wound him.
âIâll send out an alert to everyone.â Bruce confirmed, on his phone. He turned towards the second alarm, trying to subdue the panic in his chest. âItâs Kateâs. But itâs still attached, just damaged. Sheâs - sheâs at Kara Zor-Elâs apartment, sheâs safe. For now.â He typed quickly into the computer, silencing the alarm. âBut if someoneâs come for both of them - itâs possible weâre all in danger. Iâll get everyone to gather at one of our secret rendezvous points.â
Kara nodded, sweeping Kate up into her arms and flying them out the window. She stopped briefly a few rooftops over to call Conner, once she could be sure they were far enough away from their attackers. âOkay, Connerâs on alert. Should I tell Kal too?â She frowned, biting her lower lip.
