SPARE is a modest short-term residency located in Chicago, Illinois, USA intended to facilitate the making of prints or books. We give artists a small bedroom/studio plus access to a Risograph stencil printer and kitchen facilities.

      “Inventory Day"                 @    The Printer’s Ball Bonded by geography and their Risograph printers, six presses from the Midwest United States will converge in a side room at the Printer’s Ball in Chicago, July 27, 12-6pm. “Inventory Day” will be open to the public and include: (1) “finished products” exhibited in a reading room; (2) “work-in-process” including on-site prints on request, book binding, and Risograph demonstrations; and (3) “products to be used” in the form of takeaway prints. The day is organized and managed by SPARE in cooperation with: Issue Press, J.T. Baker Chemical Company, Lauren Anderson and Ox-Bow School of Art, Tan & Loose Press, and Working-Knowledge.

We're currently binding Teleporter #2 for Healthy Mgmt. Glue bound with cut in orange cords; uncut pages issued with Spanish bingo cards for cutting; it's pretty exciting. We've finished a handful of them and they look great. See/get them here.
