Some explanation under the cut:

Hornet

I thought it would be interesting if she showed more traits from The Pale King and in the process of figuring out *how* I remembered gynandromorphs. So she's a bilateral gynandromorph! Her male half is white and has a more Pale King-like horn, whereas her black half is female and more closely resembled Herrah. This also means she's intersex. I also wanted her to look generally more spider-like.

Lace

There's actually not that much to say about Lace's design other than I wanted her to be more frilly. I always drew her and Phantom with matching opal brooches and cravats (or whatever a more accurate name for that would be.) Post-canon I thought it would be cute if her silk turned redder because it's fully Hornet's silk! Also, she gained a couple more accents with her new freedom. The rose on her head is a gift from Hornet, a remnant of the White Palace. (Probably one of the White Lady's.)

Phantom

I probably have the least to say about Phantom's even though they're my favorite. I just think they should go full into their fancier style. I think in the past before they started fraying they looked more similar to Lace with the poofy silk pants and shoulder pads, and probably also a corset, but replaced that when they were banished to the Exhaust Organ by Grand Mother Silk. If they're going to be the black sheep they might as well look how they want. Also I wanted to focus on how their extremities were falling apart more than anything else, so theres loose silk strands.

Ghost

My unmolted Ghost design isn't that different, except for the cloak details, but I added the Void Heart to their cloak since it's unequippable and mirrors Hornet's weaver pin. For adult Ghost I wanted it to be a little wider than Hollow and more tree-like where Hollow is shaped more like a bug. It gains a fur lining to its cloak (a gift from the Nailmasters) and the inside of its cloak is stained darker from its void. (Kind of similar to how the inside of Hollow's cloak is stained orange from the Radiance.) I personally think that the Void Heart is what enables Ghost to molt. Its distance from the Void Sea on whatever journey it took outside of Hallownest stunted its growth, but with the constant feeding of Void from the charm, it can grow to its full height.

To be honest I could probably add The Pale King and the Radiance to my line-up at some point, because I have my own personal takes on their designs as well, but I simply don't have time for this year's Artfight. I could maybe add it later if I wasn't so busy haha. I don't know, we'll see.
