Whatever were the chances?
Younger warlocks came and went, making their different impressions on Nashuja, and none were quite like Magnus. His energy was one she always felt shone against the backdrop of so many; to say she was fond of him was an understatement. If anything, she might even call him her favourite of the more youthful of their kind.Â
âMagnus Bane, as I live and breathe.â Her smile was broad as she pushed away from her car and walked towards him. âYou look as lovely as ever, my boy.â
She wafted a delicate hand, as if brushing his question aside.
âI saw a job opening and got intrigued by the energy this place gives off. Apparently, the previous mortician here felt⊠hm, overworked?â Nashuja reached out and adjusted his shirt for him, not that it was out of place anyway. âAmerica was the plan, Beacon Hills was just the power. This place has something inexplicable, wouldnât you agree?â
Her eyes drifted down to his hands, and briefly a scowl passed her features. He was still wed, it seemed. To a Shadowhunter of all things.

Magnus subject himself to her minor adjustments. She may have an ineffable moral compass, but she did have a decent fashion sense. His clothes were safe, his ring on the other hand... And there was the headache.Â
Normally when Magnus came into the same city as Nashuja the only thing he had to worry about was warning his people away from her boxes. Occasionally, he would have to prepare for anything too outlandish if the elder was in one of her more nefarious moods. But now, with Alexander in the picture. Well, Magnus hoped that the snake warlock was somewhere in her personality cycle where killing Magnusâ husband didnât seem like an appealing form of âprotectionâ.Â
Until he found out Magnus would be trying his utmost to make sure the two never met.Â
âIt lives up to its name; I will give it that,â Magnus told her, hoping to steer her thoughts away from his husband. âI still canât locate what is causing such a strong pull. I went to the nemeton they have here, and not even that place can account for all that is happening.âÂ
