Falling asleep with your caregiver rocking you gently “shh it’s okay baby mama/papa has you” as a fan gently hums in the background. Nothing can hurt you when you’re with your caregiver. “It’s been a long day you can rest now” is all you hear before you fall asleep.
someone help me find that image of 4 cats being held up in front of a brightly coloured background. the cats look calm being held but each have their own personality
Summary : While watching fireworks Sid gets overloaded and loses himself. How will Tanger and Geno react ? Thankfully Sid isn’t alone in all of that !
Warning : Involuntary regression, swearing.
Word Count: 3290 words
The night was warm, and the crowd was noisy around them. Sid was with Geno, Tanger and their family to watch fireworks. Nikita was perched on his father's shoulders. While Kris’s son was hugging his mom. They were waiting for it for a few minutes now, it shouldn’t be long before it started. Sidney had been invited by his friends to watch it, but he was tired, lately he had trouble sleeping, and struggled to do simple tasks. There was often a fog clouding his brain and making him unable to do anything. He didn’t really understand what thoses foggy hours were, but it only happened at home, so anything was good to leave his home and avoid this strange feeling.
“It shouldn’t be long, I think.” Talked Kris, watching something on his phone and putting it away.
Sid couldn’t help the excitement rising in his chest, he adjusted his cap and looked up at the sky. The anticipation brought a strange sensation to his chest, and his hands began to tremble with excitement. He couldn't help but smile. He plunged his hands into his pockets, and to his surprise, he felt an object in his sweatshirt pocket. Looking down, he pulled the object out to get a look at it. It was a little penguin eraser figurine, a child had given it to him a few years back. He had kept it because he found it funny, but it was usually stored in the cabinet where most of his fan gifts went. What on earth was it doing in his pocket?
The sudden burst of fireworks made Sidney jump. Jolted out of his excited state, he snapped his head up toward the lights. He squeezed the penguin in his hand. As more lights illuminated the sky with a loud crack, the memory came rushing back to Sidney. He had picked up the object during the last moment of fog.
“Wow, it’s beautiful.” Anna was talking.
But everything started to go fuzzy in Sid's head. Every burst of light and sound made his body shake. His breathing started to get out of control as realization settled in.
Every moment of fog.
It wasn't just fog. It was some weird child-like mental state.
fuck.
Was he going crazy ?
He had kept ignoring it, not wanting to really know what it was. He just knew that he didn’t control it and that he always felt better afterward.
A blast louder than the others caught Sidney by surprise, and he ducked his head to cover his ears with his hands. Too loud, it was too loud. Squeezing the penguin tighter in his hand, he tried to focus on the pain of the object pressing into his palm.
“Sid ? You okay ?” Geno asked, noticing his friend's distress. He turned his head toward Sidney and leaned slightly while keeping Nikita on his shoulder.
“Uncle Sid ?” Nikita looked at his uncle with worry.
Geno's voice, barely registered in Sid’s brain. His thoughts were all circling in his head like crazy. and the flash of light and burst of sound didn’t help it at all. He tried to press harder against his ears to drown out the sound around him. Suddenly, everything was too much: the texture of his jacket scratching the back of his neck, his sweatshirt being slightly too small, his shoes and cap too tight. He stumbled backward to get away from the hand trying to rest on his shoulder.
“Hey Sid, calm down, it’s me-” As Kris tried to reach for his friend again, Sid lost it and turned to run away from them.
Sid ran through the crowd, his face turned toward the ground to block out the flashes of light. His vision was blurred with tears as he tried to push his way through the crowd as fast as he could. Finally, he managed to break away from the crowd and started running as far as possible to escape the sound and lights.
He didn't really know when he had stopped or how long he had been running. But Sidney realized he was now sitting on the ground in an alley, clutching the penguin tightly against his chest. He started crying cause that was what kids did when they were lost without their family. Sid wanted his mom or his dad next to him, hugging him and telling him it would be okay.
He cried harder. He brought his hands up to his face, pressing the penguin against his cheek with one hand, while the other went to his mouth so he could suck his thumb. He curled up into a ball, the dampness of the ground making him shiver. His body trembled, and his breathing was hitched with sobs. Fortunately, the sucking seemed to help him start to calm down. The fireworks were a distant noise now; the loudest booms still made him jump a little, but the panic had subsided. The phone in his pocket began to vibrate against his thigh. But Sid ignored it, curling up even tighter into a ball. He lowered his hand holding the penguin and opened it, looking at the little animal with interest. He moved it between his fingers, imagining the animal squawking. The vibration of his phone stopped and then started up again. But Sid was in his own world with his penguin, curled up in some random Pittsburgh alley.
Time slipped by without him realizing it; the sound of the fireworks had been gone for a while now. His body had stopped trembling, having grown used to the cold and dampness that had soaked through his pants and left his legs numb. Fortunately, the warmth of his sweatshirt kept him cozy, the soft fabric inside wrapping him in a gentle comfort that kept him from drifting out of the fog clouding his mind.
His phone had finally stopped vibrating and Sidney relaxed, the cold biting at his cheeks, which were still wet with tears. He wiped them with the hand holding the penguin, keeping his thumb firmly in his mouth. Then, exhaustion hit him all at once. His eyelids were heavy, and he could feel his body tilting to the side. He slumped over, his cap tumbling off his head as the damp ground wet his cheek and chilled his upper body. The shock woke him up, and Sidney let out a high-pitched whimper of discomfort.
Something strange happened then: a soft voice echoed in his head, urging him to grab the phone from his pocket. Sid complied with the imaginary voice and pulled himself back up into a sitting position. He placed his little penguin facing him on the wet ground, reached down into his pants pocket, and struggled to pull out his phone. He turned it on and stared at the home screen for a moment, his fingerprint having unlocked the phone instantly. He directed his gaze back toward his little eraser penguin, trying to figure out what he should do. A soft voice echoed in his head once more. “Call your friend Sidney, call Geno or Tanger.”
Sidney nodded and did what the voice told him. He hesitated for a moment, searching for the right phone app, then struggled to find his contacts. The words felt foreign and he couldn't focus enough to make sense of them. Guiding himself by the pictures, he recognized Geno and tapped the little phone icon next to his photo to place the call. It didn't take long for Geno to answer.
“Sid ?! Where are you ?! You okay ?”
It took Sid some time to make sense of the question. He tried to find the words, to understand how to respond, but his brain was working too slowly. He couldn't manage to get a single word out of his mouth.
“Sid ? You are worry me.. Where are you ?”
Sid looked at his little penguin in front of him, hoping it could help. But the penguin just stared back with its cute little face, not knowing what to do either. So Sid looked around, noticing the trash cans facing him. He pulled his thumb out of his mouth. “Dere are big trash cans here.”
Sidney heard Geno sigh over the phone, and felt his eyes burn all over again. “Sorry G, I don't know... I don't know where I am.”
“You okay Sid, is okay. I find you. What you see around?”
Sidney brought his hand up and rubbed his eyes to stop the tears from falling. He turned his head to look down both sides of the alleyway. He saw the familiar sign of a toy store. Even though it was closed, the bright, colorful sign lit up the sidewalk. He sniffed. “I see Toys store”
“Okay, is good. Keep going. What else you see?”
Sidney looked toward the other end of the alley; there was just a plain road, nothing remarkable enough for him. “N-Nothing else…”
"Okay, no problem. You look, see if you spot blue sign? With street name on it?"
Sidney looked around but didn't see any blue signs. “No.”
Sidney felt his throat tighten; he was going to stay here forever, lost. He set the phone down on the ground and picked the penguin back up, clutching it close to his chest.
“Okay. no problem. I and Tanger do all store with toys. We find you find. No worry.”
But Sidney couldn't stop a whimper of fear from escaping his lips. “Okay…”
The call stayed active as Geno had probably gotten into his car to look for Sid. As for Sid, he just went back to sucking his thumb and playing with his penguin, alternating between staring at it and pressing it close. Every now and then, Geno would ask Sid a question, and Sid would just hum in response. Fatigue had taken over him once again.
When Geno finally found Sid, he was shocked to see his friend curled up on the sidewalk in an alley adjacent to the toy store street. He grew even more worried when he saw him sucking his thumb and holding his hand against his chest, had he injured his chest ?
After texting Tanger to let him know he’d found Sid and telling him to meet them at Sid’s place, Geno knelt down in front of his friend.
“Sid ?”
Slowly, Sidney looked up from the ground and noticed Geno. Instantly, he threw himself into Geno's arms for a hug. Geno caught Sid with some difficulty, taken aback by the spontaneous embrace.”Wow, wow ok. I here now. Everything is ok. You hurt ?”
Sidney buried his face in Geno's shoulder shaking his head in refusal with a whimper and started sobbing. Caught off guard, Geno gently stroked Sid’s back, at a complete loss for what else to do. He felt reassured that Sid wasn't hurt, at least on the surface, but he wasn’t acting right... What was wrong with his friend ? Had he got a concussion again ?!
After a while, Geno grabbed Sid's phone, ended the call, and put it in his own pocket, then he guided them both back to their feet. He was hyper-aware of how freezing Sid felt and how much he was shaking against him. He was lucky to have found him now, judging by Sid's body temperature, he couldn't be far from hypothermia. He guided them both toward the car, Sid leaning heavily on him, his thumb still in his mouth and his other hand pressed against his cheek.
Geno settled Sid into the car, even buckling him in. He got into the driver's seat himself and picked up his phone to text Anna, letting her know he’d found Sid and was bringing him back home. Then, he started the engine, and they headed off toward Sid’s house.
The ride went by in a blur, as Geno couldn't stop his worried thoughts from spinning in circles. He pulled into his friend's yard and helped Sid out of the passenger seat.Tanger, who was waiting by the front door, rushed over to meet them.Sid was completely out of it. His thumb had fallen out of his mouth, but his other hand was still clenched tight. Geno was handling him like a ragdoll, and it was terrifying.
“What the hell has happened to him ?” Tanger asked with worry, his french accent more noticeable than ever.
Geno shrugged as the three of them walked toward the house. “I don't know, I found him acting like baby, sucking thumb, crying and whining.”
Tanger frowned and rummaged through Sid’s pockets to grab the house key, opening the door for them. They stepped inside, and Geno gently laid Sid onto the couch. He and Tanger watched Sid collapse and curl up into a ball, his thumb moving back up to his mouth as he rubbed his cheek against the soft fabric of the sofa.
Geno sighed and rubbed his hand through his hair. “Should we call 911 ?”
Tanger bit his lips. “I don't know. Should we ?”
The silence stretched across the living room as Sidney’s thumb-sucking slowed down and he drifted off to sleep.
“Maybe we wait for the night ? See if tomorrow he’s still acting like that ? I don't know, maybe it’s just some kind of breakdown ? You’ve seen how he left the firework, I thought he had some kind of panic attack.” Tanger kept his voice low as he headed toward a chair, picking up a plush blanket that was resting there and gently tucking Sidney in with it.
“Okay, we do that. I call Anna to tell Im sleep here to watch Sid. you stay too ?” Asked Geno while he pulled his phone out of his pocket.
“Yeah I’ll stay too.” Answered Tanger, reaching out for his own phone.
Geno nodded in understanding and stepped outside to call Anna. Tanger left the room as well, heading into the kitchen to make his call.
The night passed quickly, with everyone exhausted from the day. When morning came, Sid woke up first, feeling relaxed and well-rested. That is, until the memories of the day before came rushing back as he realized he was sleeping on the couch. Shame threatened to drown him, and he looked at the penguin still in his hand with disgust. Why. Why did he have to be like this?
“Fuck.” He threw the penguin away from him, somewhere into the room, a soft thud echoing as it hit the wall.
He got up and headed toward the kitchen to eat breakfast. His stomach was tied in knots and his appetite was nonexistent, but he forced himself to swallow the food. He needed his strength for tonight's game. He checked the time while washing his dishes, practice was in two hours. That gave him enough time to come up with an excuse for last night–
“Sid ?” The voice startled him and he spun around quickly, his heart pounding hard in his chest. Tanger was standing across from him, looking at him with a mix of worry and surprise.
Kris lunged at him, grabbing him by the shoulders and looking him dead in the eye. “Are you okay? Does it hurt somewhere? What the hell was that yesterday? Does your head hurt ? Do-”
Sidney placed his hands over Tanger’s and removed them from his shoulders, looking his friend straight in the eye. “I’m fine Tanger.”
His friend’s face was twisted in worry. “You sure ?”
Sidney smiled slightly at this. “Yes. I’m sure. I'm feeling much better than yesterday.”
Kris sighed in relief, his body visibly relaxing. “Okay.”
They stayed like that for a moment, neither of them moving. Finally, Sidney turned to grab a coffee mug and start the machine, knowing exactly how his friend liked it. Kris sat down and watched Sid, a trace of worry still lingering in his eyes. “What was that yeste-”
“Sid !” Both of them turned around to see Geno step into the kitchen.
Geno did the exact same thing Tanger had done. He rushed over to Sid and grabbed him by the shoulders, scanning him for any injury or distress. Sid slowly pulled away from Geno with a faint, embarrassed smile. “I’m alright G.”
Geno looked at him with anger. “No you not ! You acting like baby yesterday ! What all that mean ? You hide concussion ?!”
Sid shook his head in confusion. “What ? No !”
“So what it is !” Geno yelled, shaking Sid by the shoulders.
Sid avoided Geno’s gaze and met Tanger’s, which was pressing for the exact same answer. Sid dropped his eyes back to the floor, gritting his teeth. He shut his eyes for a second, then pushed Geno back, yelling. “I don't know ! I dont fucking know what is happening to me okay !”
Geno went rigid, while Kris caught his breath. “Sid we have to go see someone then-it can’t be good. What if it’s some kind of head injury or-”
“What if it’s CTE ?” Ended Geno.
Sid pressed his lips together, his mind flashing back to that internet search he had done months ago. “I dont think so.”
“But how can you so sure if don't know !” Geno was screaming again, his eyes wild with anxiety, fear and worry. His russian accent clipping his words.
"Because I already looked it up online, but—I—I just don't want to be that way!" Sid was screaming too, breathing heavily.
Kris frowned and stood up, slowly closing the distance between himself and Sid. “Be like what Sid ?”
“Be an age-regressor. Or—I think that’s what it’s called. It’s when you... when your mind just slips back to being a kid because you can't handle things.” His voice trembled, and his eyes and throat burned as he choked back the sobs he refused to let out.
Tanger immediately pulled out his phone, searching for the term online. His expression softened instantly as he sighed with relief. He looked up at Sidney with eyes full of compassion and sadness. "More like to cope,” he corrected Sidney gently as Geno was leaning over to read the online definition. “It’s a coping mechanism, Sid. It’s not a disease.”
Tanger laughed a little, locked his phone and slipped it into his pocket. “And a damn healthy one.”
Geno looked at Tanger, then at Sid, his concern lingering but shifting its focus. “Is okay Sid.”
Sid raised his eyes to look at both his friends and broke down, bursting into loud sobs, no longer able to hold back his tears. “But I’m just acting like a fucking baby ! I’ll just be a fucking bother !”
Geno laughed slightly and took Sid into a hug. “Tanger and I used to baby. We not mind for one more.”
Tanger grabbed the freshly brewed cup of coffee and watched Geno calm Sid down. “You’re gonna be okay Sid. You are allowed to have a break.”
Sid cried even harder as a wave of relief washed over him. He didn't want to move from Geno's arms, yet he thought of his little penguin on the floor somewhere in the living room and forced himself to pull away from his friend. He rubbed his eyes and left the room. Geno wanted to follow him, frowning with concern, but Tanger held him back..
“Leave him be for a moment, he needs to process-” Tanger was interrupted by Sid’s return, his fist tightly closed.
He opened his hand, revealing a little penguin eraser, as Sid’s cheeks flushed red with embarrassment. “I had him with me when I was hum… little, yesterday. Do you think I could keep him with me in the locker room in case I start to feel little or it’ll be weird ?”
Tanger took a moment to respond. Just like Geno, he was frozen by the sight before them. “Okay, that is so fucking-damn cute–”
Note : Hope you liked the fic ! I liked the idea of some eraser animal being a comfort, and I tried to include an imaginary caregiver too if you have noticed ! In this fic Sid has an imaginary caregiver but he doesn't really know or realize it, its cause he's been regressing alone.
baby regressor sniffling and clinging to their carer... not particularly upset over anything in specific just feeling emotional in general... head buried into their shoulder as your carer gently bounces you in their arms... carer letting you drift off to sleep against their chest, head on their shoulder...
sunshine, you're not fooling anyone: you're not a big kid right now. don't you give me that look - i know how you are when you're big, and right now you're not. nu uh, no pouting, it's okay - there's nothing wrong with being small!! <33
oh kiddo, come here, what's wrong? were you playing pretend the whole day, trying to seem like a grownup? it's alright now, little one, you're safe here. you can let yourself be small. now, let's try to take a deeeep breath and let all these big thoughts fly away - i can do the thinking for you now, hm? come on, little one, let's get some comfy clothes and a stuffie <3
we do not talk enough abt trevor having some almost juvenile personality traits tbh. we all know abt him essentially age regressing in that mission w his mom , and that he more than once bangs his head on things till he bleeds when upset. but hes also very openly needy (asks to be held, asks if hes the favourite, etc) and he gets very attached to people very quickly (franklin and patricia are the best examples of this, hes quick to start telling franklin he loves him and is genuinely surprised and very betrayed in ending A when franklin comes to kill him; patricia doesnt rlly need an explanation he fell crazy in love w her within like 2 weeks). idk . i think its sad hes so emotionally stunted and No one talks abt it
