the matthew effect and pretty privilege explained
the matthew effect is basically when people who already have an advantage keep getting more. like if you start off being seen as “good” or “special”, you get more attention, more praise, more chances, and that just keeps adding up. success builds on itself.
now add pretty privilege. psychology shows that attractive people are treated better: people are kinder, more patient, more likely to help them. not because they did anything special, but because they fit a beauty standard.
this is also linked to the halo effect, where one positive trait (being pretty) makes people assume other good things about you. smarter. nicer. more capable. even when it’s not true
when all of this mixes together, it becomes really unfair. pretty people get better treatment, which boosts their confidence, which leads to more opportunities, which then “proves” they deserve it. and everyone acts like it’s natural or earned.
meanwhile other people have to work twice as hard just to be seen the same way. not because they’re less talented or less worthy, but because society decided looks matter first. it turns beauty into a shortcut and leaves everyone else feeling invisible.
Idk i was revising for my psych exams and these concepts rlly interest me xoxo
Why am I actually the most replaceable person ever
Guys, the killing has not stopped. Hunger is crushing us slowly, day after day. Gunfire surrounds us, and even tents and the last remains of our homes are not spared. There is no safety anywhere. What is happening in Gaza is not a tragedy or a conflict. It is genocide. We are not asking for sympathy. We are asking to survive. Please help us. Please save our lives.
