When I first saw the headline about Chester Bennington committing suicide I thought it was a twisted joke or a hoax.

I’m rarely truly shaken up and shocked by a celebrity’s death but this one really caught me off guard.

I’d always see him talking about his children, his band just released an album, he seemed to have it together on the surface, despite having stated that he’s struggled with depression and addiction in the past.

This is exactly why you can never judge a person’s state of mind and well-being based on what they allow you to see. You never know the demons they’re dealing with when nobody’s around.

RIP Chester.

Maybe I could find a person willing to love me correctly. They’re probably out there, but most days I find myself too busy trying to pick the pieces of the heart you stomped on to notice. I hope this changes soon. I won’t be stupid, trying to forget you first would be a waste of time, but just let me get to the point where I can love without looking at a guy and seeing your reflection.

Reading this made me feel like maybe I am slowly healing. Not wanting to put all my eggs in one basket but I think that i may have found someone who won’t stomp all over me. He is gentle, he is sweet, he is kind. Maybe I am being naieve, hopeful or just plain stupidly romantic. Maybe I think he will be/is good for me.

Today we celebrate the life of Rebecca Cole. Rebecca Cole was a black doctor. In 1867, she became the second black woman to become a doctor in the United States after Rebecca Crumpler‘s achievement three years earlier. Cole then interned at Elizabeth Blackwell‘s New York Infirmary for Indigent Women and Children. Everyday is Black History.
