*A portal has dragged you to a random era, you're not sure why* *You're in what you assume is that era's castle town, there are some guards around, showing people a missing poster* *Then the boy in the poster, wearing a hood and with a dirty face, clearly trying to disguise himself, grabs your hand* "Mom! There you are. Are we still going shopping later?" *his eyes beg for you to play along as the guards get closer*
@sparrowthelink
*She yelps when dragged into the portal. That's new and she didn't make this portal herself.*
*She looks around, grimacing at the amount of guards around, as well as people. She probably sticks out a little, but at least she's not wearing something that'll make her stick out more.*
*She jumps when someone grabs her hand, about to defend herself when she sees it's just a kid. She blinks, a little confused - the kid couldn't be too much older than when she met Jun. That brings her back...*
*Listening to the boy's words, noticing his expression, she gives a relieved sigh. Time to act, she supposes.*
You shouldn't run off like that, dear. Yes, yes, we have to go to the market later for food. Is there something you'd like for dinner?
*his shoulders slump slightly in relief when you play along*
"sorry, mom!" *He fakes shame surprisingly well for is age*
"not really! What were you thinking of making?"
*the guards get closer, approaching you as the boy pulls his hood down over his face*
"excuse me, ma'am, have you seen this boy? The young prince is missing from his room, and we are mobilizing a search party to find him, any information helps!"
*they show you a picture as they talk, unaware that the person they're looking for is right there*
"the queen is frantic"
*the boy looks slightly guilty at that, but says nothing*
*As she fakes a thinking look, she looks at the guards as they approach her. This kid is this era's prince? Dangerous game you're playing, you're lucky she gets it.*
*She fakes concern, shaking her head.*
No sir, I apologize, I haven't seen the prince. I'll keep an eye out for him.
*Because an eye is all she has. Which surprises her that the guards haven't questioned her strange appearance. Not just her clothes, which was just a normal commoner's dress, but the scars on her face. Most women aren't scarred like her.*
*The guards stare at you for a few seconds, trying to gauge if you're telling the truth* "Very well...you seem truthful enough, though don't be surprised if some other guards ask you, we were told to ask anyone suspicious looking." *Ah, that explains it. The other guard whacks the one who spoke on the head* "You're not meant to tell them that, Joe! You don't tell the suspicious person they're suspicious!" *The boy chuckles slightly from besides you*
*It takes everything in her to not roll her eyes as she gives a feigned surprised look.*
Me? Suspicious? Is it because of my scars?
*She places her free hand to her cheek, giving a look that conveys that it's "difficult" to speak about.*
I was attacked by a thief as a child and was left with these scars. I can't even see out of my eye because of it.
*She looks at the knights, fluttering her eyes.*
I assure you, sirs, I'm simply heading to the market to get food for supper for myself and my son.
"Ah, right, my deepest apologies, ma'am! We should not have assumed!" *The guards dip their heads in apology, quickly leaving you both be as the boy sighs in relief* "Thank you for that. I swear those guards never let me do anything fun these days."
*Twig rolls her eyes as the guards leave. She looks at the boy, placing her hands on her hips.*
Sure, not an issue, but getting dragged here to play "Mom" for some random person isn't something that happens every day. I almost punched ya, kid.
Why don't you start with who you are and where we are?
*She pauses, shaking her head.*
When we are, more accurately.
"well, I didn't exactly have an option! I wasn't gonna let those guards drag be back to my room, mom would have increased security again!" *the kid is obviously rather defensive, crossing his arms in a pout* "I'm Link, Link Rhoam Hyrule the First, technically. But that's long and annoying, and the middle name is from an idiot of a king." *he tilts his head* "We're in castle town, duh, The heck do you mean 'When'?"
*Oh boy, this is already interesting. Twig simply sighs.*
I know exactly which king you're talking about, he is the king in my time.
No, no, I know that.
*She waves a dismissive hand. She places a hand on her chest.*
I'm from the Era of Prosperity, just before the Era of the Wilds. I'm trying to figure at which point in time am I...
Did you...not make the portal that brought me here?
*She can sense his magic. It's...weird, unbalanced, he must not have much control of it and judging by how he speaks of his mother, she has refused to teach him. Twig understands that well.*
"your...time? time travel? portals?" *he shakes his head* "I don't know anything about that. Mom looked more concerned than usual, but she doesn't tell me anything, so I've got nothing." "This is the Era of Rest, we call it that since there hasn't been a major catastrophe in...about 1000 years if I remember correctly. So the Hero's Spirit gets a rest."
"I didn't open a portal, I can't use magic anymore." *You can feel the kid's magic, the way it rolls and almost seems to battle with itself, strong and steady but chaotic. Why can't this kid use magic when he has so much of it?*
How strange... And I've never heard of your era before, and I've been through basically all of them...
Which doesn't really put me at ease. I can get home easy enough myself, however so that's not a problem...
*She looks at you with a raised brow.*
What was the last major catastrophe?
*She blinks, confused.*
You can't... But you have so much. It's unstable as all hell but... It doesn't make any sense.
*She shakes her head.*
And if you want to continue avoid getting caught, we might want to find somewhere more secretive to speak.
"ah...right, we are in public"
*He takes Twig's hand, slower this time so that you notice first, he did listen. He takes her to a small alley nearby, there's some cloth and a knife nearby, the cloth matches what he is now using as a cloak*
"there, that's better"
"the last catastrophe was...the upheaval, if my history books are correct, about 1000 years ago"
*his face drops slightly*
"as for the magic question, it is strictly none of your business. And I wouldn't go asking others, it'll make it obvious you aren't from around here"
*She follows without complaint, listening to their surroundings for anyone following them.*
*She looks at you, bringing a hand to her chin.*
So I'm in the future... The Upheaval is an event that happens in the Era of the Wilds, which - while isn't the time I'm from - is the era I happen to be associated with as a hero.
*Her brows pinch together.*
I'm guessing it's the reason your mother is so restrictive? Or at least part of the reason? If so, it's a stupid reason.
*the kids eyes light up slightly*
"your the tree hero they tell stories about-?!"
*he then turns bright red at his outburst, then his face falls*
"no, it's...it's a good reason. She has every reason to keep such a close eye on me."
*he leads you to the edge of the alley, pointing to a visible part of the castle, it's clearly new, stone not as worn, different style of windows*
"the first time I used my magic, I was three throwing a fit. It collapsed a wing of the palace and it had to be rebuilt"
Tree...hero?
*She blinks.*
Uh, I don't... I go by Twig, which I... Don't know why you'd know that...
*She looks at the castle where you point, a frown on her face as you explain.*
Okay, so you got your powers early. The point isn't to stop you from using them, but learning how to control them, three is a great age to start learning that sort of thing.
*he's still slightly starry-eyed, but trying to act calm* "People tell stories about the era of the wild here; it's a common kids' tale. my...mom used to read it to me."
*he's clearly embarrassed, and a bit sad* "My magic...it's made out of two elements that are never meant to cross paths anywhere other than a battlefield. If I tried to use it, it could tear me apart. It's safer this way. something like that is meant to be contained, not harnessed."
*At least, that's what his mother told him. That's why he's not meant to leave his quarters. he knows sneaking out is wrong, it's dangerous...but is it really all that bad to want to do the wrong thing sometimes?*
Well...if this future is connected to my time... Goddesses, a thousand years without Ganondorf... Ain't that a blessing... Amused about the "becoming a children's tale" bit.
*She frowns more.*
Kid, our world is full of magic, things that are that shouldn't be. Just because your magic clashes with each other now, doesn't mean you can't learn how to get them to live in harmony.
*She pauses for a moment before giving a warm smile.*
Say, since you're already "missing" and the timeline is fucked and broken anyway... Why don't you come visit my time? It'll give you some more freedom.
*he chuckles slightly, but his face falls* "even if I wanted to...seals like mine can't be undone easily." *he doesn't just avoid using his magic...it's been sealed away...did his mother do that?* *that is messed up* "I...don't think I should leave...but" *he glances at something behind you, something you can't see or hear* "...one day. I can go for one day"
*She...doesn't like the implications of the seals. It's no wonder you magic's chaotic and all built up, you haven't been allowed to release any of it.*
*She smiles when you accept her offer. With a simple flick of her hand, a portal opens up. On the other side, you can see trees with the sun shining down.*
Would you like to go first or go together? The portal will stay open until I step through.
"I'd...prefer if we went together...so you don't close it on me"
*he's not risking ending up in a different era alone, but you can see the excitement in his eyes*
"are...are there horses? I've never been near a horse, I'm not allowed to go down to the army stables, and those horses always look too contained"
Why would I close it on ya? I gotta get home too, ya know.
*She giggles and offers her hand.*
There are tons of horses. I have a horse of my own. She's a war horse but don't let her training fool you, I trained her myself. She'll always be a free spirit, I don't keep her locked up in a stable.
*he smiled slightly*
"I'm glad. I hate seeing animals..anyone really, locked up. I once tried to let someone out that was locked in the dungeon because I felt bad. Turned out he was an assassin"
*he seems rather sheepish at that*
*he pauses when they pass through, staring at awe in everything as he slips his hood off to feel the sun*
*his eyes are a dark blue, reminding you of Sky's, and his hair is a strawberry blonde*
"it's beautiful! I've never been in a forest before!"
*you are on the great platue, in the small forest below the shrine of resurrection*
Well, you have to be careful with that. I'm not a fan of being locked up either, but certain animals and people are locked up for a reason.
*She steps through the portal with you, a smile on her face as she watches you.*
This is the Forest of Spirits on the Great Plateau. My home isn't too far from here, but I'm supposed to somewhere else.
*She laughs, scratching at her cheek.*
I just default to home if I'm not thinking too hard on where to go.
*he smiles*
"your home is beautiful, Twig, I've only ever seen places like this in books!"
"the great platue is pretty populated in my era, because there's a spring there that has healing properties"
*probably residue from the shrine. He kneels near a tree, looking at some mushrooms*
"medium sized red top...white stem...I think this is a Hylian Shroom"
*no, it isn't. It's a poisonous counterpart*
Thank you. Most of the woods in different eras are beautiful.
Really? Hmm, probably because the Shrine of Resurrection was built on top of a hot spring, according to the papers we recently found. People usually only visit here for the Temple of Time.
*She looks as you kneel down, observing something. She moves so she can see what you're looking at. She immediately shakes her head.*
Not a Hylian Shroom, see the frills under the cap? This one's poisonous. It won't kill you, but you'll get sick for a good while.
*he hums at the explanation, before pulling his hand away from the Shroom at your words*
"oh, I see. I don't think this species exists in my era"
*he pulls out a notebook, sketching the Shroom and taking notes*
*the bushes rustle as Epona makes her way over*
*Twig looks up, smiling.*
Epona, what are you doing over here? I thought you were with Zelda over at one of the shrines.
*She walks over, petting the horse. She pulls an apple out of her pouch for Epona, who takes it.*
*Sparrow's eyes widen at the sight of the horse as he carefully approaches, he extends his hand before pausing, remembering manners*
"ah, sorry, may I pet you?"
*Epona looks at you before lowers her head a little so you could pet her.*
She's letting you, kiddo... Stay here, both of you, I'm going to look around real quick.
*Twig steps away, walking in the direct Epona came from, but not going far enough that you couldn't see her.*
*he grins, petting Epona happily*
"you're so soft! I've never pet a horse before! So elegant!"
*he's just baby talking the horse at this point, telling her how beautiful she is, barely notices when Twig walks away*
*Twig comes back a few moments later, having gone a bit deeper into the woods. She's accompanied by another person, wearing a royal blue shirt with the symbol of the Triforce on it.*
-to another era. I don't know who made the portal, but I met this kid there.
You always have such strange adventures when I'm away, don't you?
I was with you this time! Anyway, I brought the kid with me, seems like he doesn't get out much.
Link, are you sure that's a good idea?
The timeline's already a fucking mess anyway, including one more era into this mess ain't going to break much.
*the boy is practically cuddling the horse now, arms wrapped around her long neck*
*he turns bright red when Twig gets back*
"you saw nothing."
*you saw everything*
*Twig giggles at your reaction to her return.*
You're fine.
*She looks at the girl next to her.*
Zelda, this is, uh... I don't have a nickname for him, but he's Link. Link, this is Princess Zelda.
*Zelda looks at you and smiles.*
It's a pleasure to meet you, Link. If I may ask, what era are you from?
*hes still very clearly flustered*
"nice to meet you too, princess. I'm from the Era of rest, about 1000 years from now if Twig is to be believed"
*he's still petting Epona as he speaks*
The...Era of Rest? You're from the future?
*She examines your clothes, a shocked look on her face.*
I...I see, then I suppose - judging by your clothes - you're a prince?
You would be correct. Bit weird to meet your own descendant, huh? And I thought meeting our ancestors was weird.
*Zelda nods in agreement.*
It surely is a surprise, but I'm sure you know why.
*Twig nods with a shrug.*
*Sparrow pulls his cloak back around himself, hiding his clothes*
"ah...yes, I am technically a prince of Hyrule..this is pretty weird for me too"
*he's not sure what to say in a situation like this*
*Twig looks at Zelda.*
We should go into town, get him some clothes that'll help him blend in. Otherwise he's going to stick out like a sore thumb if that cloak doesn't stay closed.
Yes, I have to agree. It's easy to explain away your boyfriend as someone from outside of Hyrule. Not so easy to explain someone in royal clothing when I don't have a brother.
*Twig looks at Epona.*
Epona, go ahead and head home. Dad should be home and have some feed ready for you.
*The horse snorts, bowing her head as if to indicate she understands. She rubs her muzzle against you before turning and heading in the direction of what can be assumed to be where "home" is.*
*he looks down at his clothes*
"this is the simplest clothes I have though...I made sure of it.."
*the sleeves have a pattern sewn in gold thread. And you're pretty sure it's made of silk.*
"yeah actually that makes sense, we should probably get some new ones"
If that's simple, I feel underdressed.
*Zelda states with a soft smile. Twig just snickers.*
Well, let's get to Gatepost Town. Better than going all the way to Castle Town and risk running into my father.
Ah, yes, of course. I'd be concerned myself if General Avin hadn't taken time off.
*Twig raises a brow at Zelda.*
He...never does that...
*She shakes her head.*
Walk and talk.
*She turns on her heels and begins walking off. Zelda follows after her.*
"yeah...well, can you blame a man for liking shiny things?"
*he jokes back, clearly a bit more relaxed*
*he glances back at the woods as they walk. He felt something there, Probably related to why this general is on break, And that something can fuck off.*
*Traveler is offended. He doesn't blame the kid. But he is offended.*
"what do kids usually wear in this era?"
If you're trying to blend in, yes.
*Twig states plainly. Zelda looks at you with a nervous smile.*
Ah, don't mind her, she's just like this sometimes.
As for wear, it doesn't vary too much from village or town.
Unless you go to Tabantha Village, they live in the snow so their clothes are crafted for those living conditions. Revali once told me that Rito Village often offers them any extra feathers they can spare, so they can keep warm.
Anyway, it'd be similar to what I'm wearing, but for a boy.
Link has a better idea of this sort of thing as I'm usually stuck in the castle.
It's the same bullshit the council pulled when I was your knight, the difference is that you *have* to come see me to improve on your powers.
*he chuckles slightly*
"ok... atleast I tried! I didn't have access to anything simpler!"
*he hums as Zelda talks*
"mom grumbles about the council a lot, they want her to remarry and have another heir, they don't want me to inherit the throne"
*his mom thinks she hides it well, but he hears more than anyone would like to believe*
*he fake whispers the next part, clearly finding his mother's crush slightly funny, and not fully understanding the situation*
"mom doesn't want to remarry because she has a crush on the Gerudo chieftess, she turns red whenever they see each other. Like a tomato"
Ah, sounds like a certain someone I know.
*Twig says in a teasing tone, looking at Zelda. Zelda blushes, clearing her throat.*
Artemis and I are simply good friends, Link. You know I can't marry her.
I call bullshit! Fuck the council, do what you want! They're old geezers anyway!
*Zelda sighs.*
I often wonder if you're better for this... You're at least into men and have the ancient sealing powers as well.
I don't want that damn crown...
"I'd say marry who you want to marry"
*he's never understood why the council is so stingy about it*
"in my era we have a law: humanity first. If someone is pushing for a law or ruling that is meant to harm people it must be held to a vote of Hyrule's people, each town has a representative chosen each year for these choices, you cannot be rep two years in a row. Castle town has three reps, one Rich, one middle class, and one poor. My father invented the system"
*that's the first time he's mentioned a father*
"whatever happens, I can promise you that it turns out ok. At least that's what the history books say"
*he read about that a lot, it was an interesting subject*
*Twig and Zelda look at each other before looking back at you.*
I'm...a bit surprised there's a council... I have decided that when I become queen, I'd be removing it.
It's possible they decided one would make things easier, Link is a thousand years into the future...
That is true... However, it does seem to just have the same issue as ours has.
*Twig hums, crossing her arms.*
Why does your mother have to remarry? Did your father pass?
"the council was originally to manage excess work, due to stress, but then they just kinda...never left. Dad wanted to get rid of them, but couldn't, so he made the law"
*his face falls slightly, saddened by the reminder*
"mom says he got sick, I don't remember him much"
*he messes with something in his pocket as he talks*
*Zelda frowns, sighing.*
I...understand how you feel. My mother passed from illness as well when I was young.
I remember the funeral, at least getting ready for it. My mother scolded my father for trying to get me to bring the Master Sword. I already was dealing with the burn to my arm, my mother thought the Sword would bring too much attention where it wasn't needed.
Your father is truly a different man with you, isn't he?
You're telling me...
*he scoffs at that*
"trying to have you take the sword to a funeral? The focus is supposed to be on the life of the deceased, not someone holding a piece of metal some goddess decided meant more than all the other pieces of metal"
*he shakes his head, redirecting his attention*
"I'm sorry you had to go through that, I don't remember the funeral myself but," he pulls something out of his pocket, "my dad left me this"
*it's a small wooden carving of a bird, the paint is old and worn, but you're pretty sure it's meant to be a sparrow*
It is not a piece of metal. It stores power from the Goddess Hylia to help the one containing the Hero's Spirit to defeat evil, originally created by Hylia herself...
Or my dad in his timeline, which who knows which that is.
If it was not for Link wielding the Master Sword, the future you come from would not exist. What Link did would not be a story for you.
Exactly, while what my father tried to do was disrespectful, the sword is incredibly important... Which begs the question...
*Twig looks at you, tilting her head.*
Where is the Master Sword in your time?
*he shrugs*
"don't know where the sword is, don't wanna know where the sword is. While she has done a good job, I refuse to go anywhere near anything associated with that goddess"
*he clenches his fist around the bird, clearly upset by this subject*
"she's caused nothing but pain for me. So I will do what I need to do without her help."
*he is perfectly fine if he ends up being a hero. But he does it in spite of Hylia, not because of her.*
*Twig doesn't say anything as she stops walking. Instead, she pulls something out of her pouch, a sword. She unsheathes it, holding it out in front of her, facing you.*
Link...
This sword hasn't left my side since I was five-years-old. I lost my childhood to this sword. I lost a lot in the name of being Hylia's Hero. I want you to tell me what you think my opinion on the Goddesses is, Link.
*She sheathes the Master Sword, swinging it over her head and fixing it in place over her chest. Then she continues walking.*
I'm...sorry about her. I'm not sure what's going on, she's been a bit...all over the place today emotions wise. Her dad says she's been like this for a while, however.
*he stares at the sword, no fear in his eyes*
"if you actually were going to stab me with that, she would have burned you for raising your sword against another hero without necessity"
*the air around him has changed, he is no longer just a kid, he is the prince of Hyrule. And he will not hesitate to remind you what that means.*
"if it makes you so upset, Link. Then atleast hear my reason."
*he takes a breath, placing his hand on his chest.*
"Hylia made me the hero to prove a point to another deity. She's said so herself. There is no grand quest waiting for me, no great evil to defeat, just the constant feeling that I need to be doing something, but I don't know what it is."
*his glare is flat and cold*
"she may be your goddess, but she will never be mine. And the fact that she sent a literal child to deal with her problems is just another reason on the list."
*he threw your own words right back at you*
"I'm starting to doubt that your suggestion of following her was a good idea, Ghiri"
*Twig stops walking, turning to face you with a surprised look.*
Why is all of Hyrule would I stab you?! You're a child! And on top of that, a prince.
*She places a hand on her chest.*
I may no longer be a knight, but I took an oath to protect the royal family, and in my opinion, that's regardless of what time they're from.
And you don't intimidate me, Link. I've faced worse than someone with powers he can't even use.
*She crosses her arms.*
And Hylia was wrong for that. But I can only imagine which deity and honestly, fuck him too. I don't wish to deal with him again. I also never said she was my Goddess, I don't worship her in the slightest. Being her descendant doesn't mean shit.
*Twig roles her eyes, turning away.*
You know of my heroism, not how I got there. Don't speak on a past that's only legend to you. I'm also not the only hero that has reservations about their journey.
Also, my ability to sense magic is much stronger than others. I've known you've been here the whole time, Ghirahim. You may stay, but don't cause any problems.
Ghirahim?
Long story.
"you pulled a sword on me. What else was I supposed to think?"
*he grumbles*
"and what was I supposed to assume when you got so upset about me talking shit about the old witch."
*a being emerges from Sparrows shadow*
"so you were just ignoring me? How rude! Wasn't that rude, little prince?"
*Sparrow relaxes slightly*
"I mean, I ignore you all the time so~"
*ghiriham pouts*
*Twig sighs, pinching the bridge of her nose.*
I didn't get upset because you were insulting Hylia, I do it myself, just not her hero...who's also my ancestor... This timeline shit is complicated.
*She looks at you, crossing her arms.*
I got upset because you insulted Fi, the spirit within the Master Sword. She's my oldest friend, of course I'm going to be upset when you simply call her "a piece of metal".
*She looks at Ghirahim.*
What, you want me to acknowledge you? I'm surprised you're even still around! You're lucky I won't get Sky involved unless you start causing issues. I already caused Sky enough issues.
*Sparrow blinks*
"there's a spirit inside the master sword?"
*he suddenly feels a lot guiltier about his behavior*
"i- didn't know that...I'm sorry"
*Ghiriham, on the other hand, bursts out laughing*
"your face! You really had no idea! Oh all that waiting was so worth it!"
*Sparrow, like the very proper boy he is, picks up a glob of dirt and throws it at Ghiriham*
"you said it- she was just a sword!"
*Ghiriham laughs harder*
*Twig sighs.*
Yes, her name is Fi. My Fi will be the same one in your Era... Which, if she hasn't been used since me, is a very long time.
*A little light comes from the sword and lands on Twig's shoulder. The light fades to show a tiny Fi, more blue than she was many years ago.*
It is quite alright, young prince. However, I've had much longer waits, Twig.
Right, the ten thousand years between me and the hero before me, during the first Calamity.
Yes. However, I was still asleep until you pulled the sword. I believe, like Tear, you were originally supposed to retrieve me at the age of twelve.
Alright, alright, no need to keep reminding me how shitty my father is, Fi.
My apologizes.
*She looks at Ghirahim.*
Hello, Ghirahim. I haven't seen you since Demise's defeat.
*Sparrow stares at the small sword spirit in awe*
"so tiny..."
"it is LORD Ghiriham to you, spirit."
*Sparrow rolls his eyes, but says nothing. Limiting Ghiri's speech is something he refuses to do*
"doesn't waiting that long get lonely? Ghiri said being stuck like that for so long was-"
"none of their concern, little prince."
"right, sorry"
*Ghiriham is completely ignoring the mud dripping down his face, you're pretty sure you saw him lick some of it away*
No one's calling you that.
I was asleep for most of that time, young master. Truthfully, I have only been awake for two heroes. Master Sky, the Hero would fought and killed Demise, and Twig.
So...where did the legend of the sword having a voice come from? Because the legend of the Hero of the Sky is very old.
I cannot answer that question for you, your Highness.
*that just makes him more concerned*
"that sounds even worse."
*Ghiriham, surprisingly, nods in agreement*
"there's not much point to living if you don't even get to experience things!"
"yeah! Maybe we should get you some new clothes too! You shouldn't be left out! Though you'd have to wait until you're not tiny to try them on"
"oh, and I don't deserve new clothes?"
"we can stop by the seamstress when we get back, I doubt anything here would fit your...taste"
"acceptable. Wait- are you saying I have bad taste?!"
"you have expensive taste"
*Fi frowns.*
It was not my choice. It was simply a part of my role upon the Master Sword's completion and the end of Master Sky's journey.
*She blinks, confused.*
Am I not fine in what I wear now? Surely a sword spirit such as myself has no need for an exchange of clothing.a
Fi spends most of the time in the Sword. It'd be a waste to get her clothes if she can't show them off.
Just as well, Fi would simply stand out. I'm not sure how it was back then, but most Hylians aren't that open minded. Stand out too much and people will become uncomfortable and may even deny you service.
*he pouts*
"I guess that's true...but you deserve to have fun too"
*for a second you catch an actually soft smile on Ghiriham's face before he scoffs*
"you're too soft, little prince. If the Spirit wants to do something she can, you don't need to feel bad for her"
*Sparrow pouts, but doesn't say anything more*
*Fi is quiet for a moment.*
It is my duty to serve the one wielding the Hero's Spirit. While you are not my current master, you do contain the Hero's Spirit. If you desire a change of clothes for myself, I will not protest.
*Twig giggles.*
Well, then we'd have to head home and see if Dad can help with your size. I don't even know how Sora shrunk you to begin with.
Runes. It is an ancient form of magic use.
I...see...?
Well, we should head there now, if we wish to get to town soon enough to purchase clothes for Link.
*Twig sighs and waves her hand, a portal opening next to the group. Within the portal appears to be a bedroom, coated in the color purple.*
Fastest way home. Dad's used to it by now.
*Sparrow smiles slightly at that*
"I've said it to Ghirahim, and I'll say it to you Fi, I will never order you to do anything you are not comfortable with, you are people too, and I will never take someone's free will. so please, do not feel like you have to do anything just because I ask you to"
*ah, maybe that's why Ghiri likes this kid*
*when they step through the portal, Blade is in the kitchen, packing something, he senses the portal and turns around*
"oh, flower! What are you doing-"
*he sees Sparrow*
"You're that kid who threw horse dung at me!"
*Sparrow points at him*
"You're the guy who was trying to sneak into the palace! You're ok!"
"yep, good as new! Well, almost"
Ah, great, you two know each other. I somehow got yoinked to his era.
Anyway, Dad, we need some help.
*She wants over to him, carefully taking Fi off her shoulder and holding her out to Blade.*
Sora made her small and I don't have a clue on how to undo it.
Hello, Master Blade.
"oh my stars, you're tiny"
*he hums, drawing a few runes and scanning Fi*
"looks like rune magic, shouldn't be too hard to undo, could you set Fi on the table please?"
*while Blade is talking Sparrow glances at the bags nearby*
"what are the bags for?"
"just need to go pick some things up, it'll be a few days round trip"
"I assume that by "some things" you mean Filly"
*Sparrow tilts his head*
"yes, I do mean Filly"
"who's Filly?"
*As Twig sets Fi on the table, her ears twitch at the conversation. She turns, crossing her arms.*
Were you going to tell me you were gonna be gone for a few days? I mean, I'll be fine, I have Roxas...
*Blade extends his hands, drawing a few runes in the air*
"earth, growth like trees, water to calm the effect..."
"I was originally planning to tell you over dinner tonight actually, made some of those honey candies I told you about"
*Sparrow perks up and Blade chuckles*
"you can have one, save the rest for dinner. They're in a bag on the counter, blue bag, not pink, pink is pain meds"
*Sparrow runs off, you're pretty sure you saw Ghiri consider taking the pain meds instead*
*Blade shakes his head and focuses on the spell, soon Fi regrows back to her normal size*
*Twig sighs.*
At least you were going to tell me... Roxas is with Ven and Sora so I don't have a clue when he'll be home.
And what's with that Link kid, Dad? His magic is weird, and he's not allowed to use it?
*Fi gets off the table, bowing her head.*
Thank you, Master Blade.
"happy to help, Fi"
*Blade glances over at Sparrow, who glares at him before going back to his candy*
"Sparrows magic...almost killed him as a baby, it was too much for him. So his family sealed it away so he could survive. That's all I know sadly...but seems they never undid the seal"
"I'm...sure he'll tell you the rest when he's ready to, and once he understands it himself"
*Twig huffs, looking away.*
Doesn't feel right to me that no one will teach him. I went through the whole "you can't use your powers" shit. Deciding to go against that is the only reason I'm here now.
But Link, you also lost a lot in doing so. Your sister, your job, a chunk of your memories-
*Twig looks at Zelda, cutting her off.*
Which is better than everyone dying and me losing all my memories, now isn't it? I'd rather have a few missing memories and no job than my sister and loved ones being dead.
Link...
*he sighs*
"no, it isn't fair. But some people let fear make decisions for them, and all we can do is hope those people learn"
*he gently sets his hand on Twig's, making sure she sees him move*
"you had to make an impossible decision, and you had to choose which decision would hurt less people. You made that decision, and the outcome isn't perfect, but it is better."
"I hate that heroes so often have to make that decision"
*he fidgets with his ring slightly. He still remembers making that decision. He remembers the face his husband made, they both knew he wasn't coming back*
"but we can't change the past, so let's see how we can make the now better"
"wow, that was really inspirational, I didn't understand most of it"
*Sparrows back!*
Everyone lets fear make decisions for them.
*She's no different, she knows this well.*
But after some time, it's worth understanding, which is the part I don't understand... He get to learn...
*She shakes her head.*
Whatever, he's Zelda's descendant and a prince. What standing does a knight have in what the royal family does?
You're part of the royal family, too, Link. You lack of title doesn't mean Father and I don't value your opinion.
But will a queen a thousand years into the future value it? I think not, no matter how popular my story still is.
*She sighs, rubbing her face. The more annoyed and irritated she got, the more nauseous she felt.*
What were you planning for dinner? Usually I cook, so...
"oh...you guys are talking about it again... aren't you"
*he shakes his head, sighing*
"I already told you. I agree with their decision. It's safer this way"
*Blade glances at the kid, he can tell Sparrow doesn't fully believe that*
"herb crusted cucco and salad, the candies are for dessert"
*Twig grimaces but nods.*
Alright...let's hope I don't gag trying to eat tonight.
*She looks at you.*
And just because you "agree" doesn't mean it's right.
"well, theres nothing to be done about it. So there's no use complaining. most things in life aren't right, get used to it" *Sparrow is clearly tired of this being brought up* *Blade sighs*
"I have some soup if you can't stomach solids"
*Twig's eye twitches.*
You're telling me, to get used to things in life not being right? My biological father abused me because I contain the Hero's Spirit, as well as wielding Goddess Powers. I think I know than anyone how fucking shitty life can be.
*She pushes herself off the table, walking away.*
You can go into town by yourselves, I'm going to my room.
*A portal appears next to you as Twig disappears around the corner.*
*Zelda sighs.*
You really shouldn't antagonize her, Link.
*It's raining outside. When did that start?* "I am telling you that if you keep focusing on things you can do nothing about, you'll only waste your time." *he turns to Zelda, clearly annoyed* "Maybe you should stop bringing up stuff I told you to drop. My life and my situation are none of your fucking business. I'm not a charity case." *he walks back to the door* "I'm not wasting any more time here. If you won't even try to listen, then I won't bother talking to you. I'm done, goodbye."
*he slams it behind him, Ghirahim following* "well the focusing on things you can't change thing was something I was trying to say, that was not a good way to go about it. I can understand Flower getting upset, but Sparrow has a point. he didn't want your help and was clearly uncomfortable with it being discussed."
*He presses his hands against his eyes* "this is such a mess"
Link seems to be having a bit of trouble regulating her emotions, I've noticed today. But she also seems to feel guilt about something.
If I may- *Fi begins.*
Two years ago, Twig met a young child named Jun and quickly became attached to him. However, he's from a different timeline, and at some point, his timeline went through a disaster that caused the citizens of Hyrule to become monsters. This infected Jun, as well as his Link and Zelda. However, Jun had been selected to take Link's place and was able to find a way to save Hyrule.
But this took seven years, and Jun was not treated well and still suffers the consequences of the actions people took out of fear. Jun is also not a child anymore, but a grown adult.
Twig feels guilt for not being able to protect him, especially since he was the one who started breaking her walls down and bring light into her life. I believe she fears getting attached to someone she'd see as a younger sibling, but it's not something she's capable of preventing.
Her instinct is to protect and I believe that stems from not being able to see her own sister.
Just as well... I should not say but with how...intimate she and Roxas are, and detection of increased hormones...
"It unfortunately would not surprise me if she is with child."
Oh my-
*Blade listens quietly, but completely freezes at the last line*
"wait- what?!" "if that is true then all this stress is NOT good for her- and also I'm going to have to talk to Roxas"
"It would explain how...emotional she's been, but- admittedly- this isn't a situation I've dealt with before...I'm not sure what to do"
"Please be kind to Roxas, I do not believe he knows that sex leads to pregnancy, or what pregnancy even is. This is an educational moment, not a scolding one."
Well... I have to return to the castle if Link is no longer taking company. I also wish to check on the other one. He's not in his time and I do not know how he'll get back.
*She bows her head.*
It was a pleasure to see you, Blade. I apologize for the sudden stress you're now under. I'll see if I can bring any comfort to the younger Link.
*She turns on her heels and leaves. She quickly picks up the pace, trying to catch up to you.*
Link! Link, please wait.
*Blade sighs, standing up and leaning on his cane* "I don't know what to do next, I am going to take a breather to calm down and think, and then we can discuss this further"
*Sparrow does not stop, in fact, he speeds up* "Leave me alone. You and Twig have already done enough."
That would be wise. I also do not recommend speaking to Twig first about this as she will not be receptive.
*Zelda huffs, speeding up as well until she's able to get in front of you.*
Will you at least hear me out as to why Li- er, Twig keeps focusing on it? I do understand it bothers you. Believe me, speaking on my powers had once bothered me as well, so much so it made me despise Twig's very existence. But there's a part of this that is influencing her behavior towards you and your situation.
*Sparrow stops walking when you step in front of him. Glaring*
"she repeatedly brought up something I clearly didn't want to talk about, told other people about it without even checking if I was ok with it, and talked to other people about me behind my back."
*Ghirahim steps between you and Sparrow. The kid doesn't want you any closer*
"Even if there's a reason it doesn't excuse what she did."
I understand that, Link. I'm not excusing that, and if you see her again, you should say something.
I do want you to understand something about her, alright.
*Zelda sighs.*
Twig has a big heart, and gets attached really easily. But she's also very protective and hates when she can't help. The last time she got attached to someone she started to view as a younger sibling, he got put into a situation she couldn't protect him from and I don't think she found out until it was far too late.
She wants to try and help you, without realizing that it's not something you want. She's also not the most emotionally stable right now, so telling her it's pointless doesn't get through to her.
Her intentions are well meaning, even if her execution is terrible.
Fi also believes that this desire to protect those she views as siblings, especially younger ones, comes from the fact that she cannot see her sister. While it's unreasonable to try and find someone to fill that hole her father forced by disowning her, we're human and crave connection and are terrified of feeling incomplete.
I'm sure if she was more emotionally stable, this would have turned out much differently, as she's usually a level-headed person. However, she is...going through something and has yet to realize it, and it's influencing her behavior.
I ask you to give her another chance. Not now, but don't shut the door on her completely.
*he listens silently, considering*
"I...will give her another chance. But only once she is stable again. I will not sit around being hurt by someone waiting for them to change"
*Ghirahim looks back at Sparrow*
"and you are sure she will change?"
"no, I'm not. But I will give her the chance to change"
You...may be waiting a bit in this case... Say...about nine months or so?
*She grimaces. She doesn't approve of talking about someone's business behind their back, but Twig did do the same to Link. She just prays Link will keep it to himself.*
*he blinks in confusion...why such a specific number?*
"...ok? Is there something I'm missing here?"
"well~ you see-"
*Ghirahim gets hit in the face by a white dove, which then proceeds to chirp over him every time he tries to speak. Because Hylia is spiteful*
"oh this is something inappropriate, isn't it"
*Zelda sighs, shaking her head.*
Twig is suspected to be with child, is all. I don't wish to know what he was going to attempt to tell you.
Just, please keep this to yourself. She doesn't seem to know yet.
"ah...ok.."
"I'll keep it to myself, if you keep anything Twig told you about my... situation..to yourself as well. I've already had enough people told about something I wanted to keep quiet"
*Ghirahim eventually gets the bird off*
"I will not tell him! Do not make a mess of this robe it is fine silk!"
*Ghiri shakes his head*
"I personally wouldn't give her a second chance after that show, but at the very least you're setting boundaries"
"see! I don't just trust people blindly!"
"anymore. You used to quite often"
