In one hand, Arabella held the bottom of her dress up so that it wouldn’t drag along the floor. The other hand held loosely onto the rail as she descended the grand staircase. The ship was beautiful and she felt right at home, the Princess was looking forward to the time that she was going to spend on board the Titanic and began to gush about her feelings aloud, to the nearest person to her. “Oh, I do hope that we get to attend a party here soon – don’t you think it would be just divine?”
Spencer had had his bags sent to his room, leaving him with time to wander around and get the lay of the land. Hat in hand, he was climbing down the grand stairway when a woman next to him began to speak. “It would be,” he agreed, a little startled that a wealthy white woman was talking to him. He bowed respectfully. “I’m sure there will be something planned for the near future to celebrate taking off or something of that nature.”
Dinners in the dining room weren’t exactly Spencer’s favorite things but they were a necessary evil. He arrived right on time, as he was apt to do, and found the seat he’d been assigned. Despite the forced smile and looks of disgust, he got from the other people at the table, he looked at everybody with a polite smile of his own. “Good evening.” After their initial shock wore off they went back to ignoring him and their own conversations and he took a calming breath, taking a sip from his glass of water. He zoned out, thinking about a relaxing evening walk later on, until he felt someone slip into the final empty seat beside him. He glanced over and straightened up only to recognize the man who’d actually attempted to talk to him the night before. “Ah. Mr. Morrison,” he greeted, holding out a hand. “We meet again.” @mcrrison
IS THAT ( GODFREY GAO ) ? GOOD GRIEF, NO… THAT’S JUST ( SPENCER CARTWRIGHT ) THE ( THIRTY ) YEAR OLD ( INDUSTRIALIST ) FROM ( FIRST CLASS ). I’VE HEARD THE STEWARDS GOSSIPING AND THEY SAY HE IS ( SELFISH ) & ( CUNNING ) BUT THANKFULLY ALSO ( OBSERVANT ) & ( INTELLIGENT ). I ALSO HEARD HE IS ON BOARD BECAUSE ( HIS FATHER DIDN'T WANT HIM AROUND AFTER HIS MOTHER PASSED AWAY AND IS SENDING HIM TO THE US ON BUSINESS ).
back again with another character because why not, right? as always, like this and/or message me for plots!
Spencer’s mother married an English industrialist and moved from the Taiwanese region of China to be with him.
She didn’t exactly do this by choice; her father basically sold her off to William Cartwright.
She was pregnant with Spencer before the wedding but never told a soul at that point and just told people that William was his father. Nobody questioned it.
Spencer was raised to be the heir to his father’s businesses and was well educated by personal tutors. He faced a lot of racism and discrimination from other businessowners so while he observed things often, he learned to stay quiet.
He learned very young to shake off the hurtful and cruel things people said.
His father raised him Christian but his mother secretly practiced Buddhism and while he doesn’t fully believe in either one, he finds them both fascinating and takes time to meditate and pray and think.
He has a younger sister he’s very close to. She’s technically his half-sister (who is a wanted connection btw) but none of them knew that except his mother until...
His mother died of tb and she told them all about the secrets she’s kept for so long so she could die in peace.
His dad, who had long ago fallen out of love with her and her beauty, was furious and was very tired of dealing with the problems that came with having a family that was a different race than was considered dominant so he decided to send Spencer and his sister to America on “business”.
They both know he just wants to be rid of them; he sent them over with a really impressive amount of money and no real instructions.
They are, of course, riding first class. They aren’t exactly welcome in most circles because of their race, though, so they often keep to themselves.
Extras:
He is an actual sweetheart. He’s kind and polite to everybody he meets, even if they aren’t so nice to him.
He’s very intelligent and well read. He doesn’t speak much, but when he does he chooses his words very wisely.
He is observant and probably knows more secrets about everybody else than they suspect.
He plays the violin; it’s his one true joy. It’s a very intimate thing for him, though, so he only plays when he’s alone (typically in his room and late at night).
