          There was no denying that the deafening bang only belonged to one thing. Before having the chance to survey the street to see who was shooting something struct her body. It was akin to lit gasoline being ruthlessly punched through, not even close to a pain she was familiar with. Cara's hands automatically grasped her torso as lips parted to let out silence. She couldn't even muster a scream, not even a plea for John to run. She stood transfixed at the sight of blood already smeared across delicate fingers. Legs started to buckle. Her vision impaired. The ground coming closer and closer—

       Cara bolted up right whilst a yelp forced eyes to open. Her hands still desperately clutching the wound as breathing came in short gasps.

The stark change in his behaviour. Cara couldn't help but be sceptical. Better humanity? Doubtful. She had been around long enough to know there'd be a catch. "How about we strike a deal? You let me read your mind and I'll consider. I don't know what the hell he has done to you. But my John, the John who wanted to protect us, wouldn't do this."
