FV: could you help me with figuring out what to do as a carpenter? Like the prices and stuff, what's normal? Or could you just give me a basic rundown on what to do? Thank you!
So there are three basic things you can do with your Construction Worker pet!
Building: This is going to be the most important thing you do with your Construction Worker, because it’s the only way to get more space to grow plants, find animals, and add villagers. Building any of these things will do two things. 1: it will give you the pictured item, which can be used on your villager page, your Animal Husbandry villager’s career page, and your Herbalist villager’s career page, respectively. 2: it will increase the durability of all structures you make in the future by 1 point.
The only material you need to build with is wood, and you can use any kind! You’ll get your region’s wood type through your explorers and (if you have them) warriors. You can buy other regions’ wood types if you don’t have enough for whatever you want to make; search around and find whatever’s selling for the lowest price. The types of wood are: Coral Slab, Marble Slab, Stone Slab, Haunted Pine Slab, and Frozen Wood Slab. (As of this exact moment, Coral and Haunted Pine are cheapest, but YMMV.)
Anything you make will have its durability degrade by one point every day, but don’t worry! You can fix that with…
Repairs: This is how you fix structures you’ve built. Clicking that button will only help for an item that’s in your inventory, however. If you’ve got something in your inventory that needs repairs, go ahead and click that button and follow the directions in the pop-up menu.
To repair a structure that’s already in use…
To repair a house, first set your Construction Worker pet as active. Then visit the page of the pet whose house you want to repair. You will see a Repair button in the Villager Info block under their picture, by their house info.
To repair a botany pot or (I assume - I’ve never added extras so I’m not sure) animal stable, the pot/stable must be removed from use, which means it must be empty. I’ve found no way around this. Click an empty pot, select Remove Pot, then complete repairs through the Repair Structure pop-up as normal (or replace the pot with a more durable one).
But wait, there’s more! You don’t only get to do your own repairs…
Maintenance Market: You can also repair structures for other people! You can access the Maintenace Market here. One FC per durability point seems like the going rate. This doesn’t seem to be very popular, since if you’re able to make your own structures, you’re automatically also able to repair them. I’d set your prices just in case, though, and on the off-chance someone buys from you, you’ll get a notification and you’ll be able to complete the repair from the Repairs menu (pictured above).
You can also just straight-up sell the stuff you’ve made. I’ve got no advice for you there besides search for the item, check what the lowest going price is, and price yours accordingly, taking into account the durability - more durable structures should be worth more!
