“Maybe just a little.” Zoe laughed, taking a long drink from her drink. “Wow….you’re so mean.” she teased her cousin, hitting him playfully with her good hand. “I know, but it’s driving me insane doing nothing.”

“What are you talking about? I’m super nice.” He grinned before pretending to be hurt by the smack she’d given him. “Maybe you should take up a new hobby. You can knit! I heard that’s therapeutic.” He laughed, adding, “Or you could just see what crazy thing is being discounted on Groupon that day and try that out. I could see you taking Zumba classes.”

“ I know, I know. Sorry. ” Natalie smiled at the sight of his somewhat terrible acting skills. She turned slightly towards the other as he ordered her drink. It was pretty strange to talk to an ex in general, especially one who just disappeared and didn’t really show up – unless you counted those episodes of the Bachelor her friends made her watch. “ Probably because they’re both in relationships and they are vicariously living through me? ” Natalie chuckled. “ No, I don’t know, I guess it’s because I haven’t been in a relationship in a while and they’re trying to do something nice. Even though this isn’t exactly what I had in mind when they mentioned they’d ‘cheer me up’. ” She glanced back for a short second, seeing two pairs of thumbs rising and quickly turning back around as a soft laugh slipped her lips. “ Honestly, I don’t have a great track record with guys period. ” Natalie shrugged lightly, only now fully grasping how so far her love life had been quite the disaster. “ I’m pretty sure that’s their goal though. Not mine – definitely not mine. ” 

“Maybe I shouldn’t say this, since I run a dating app and all, but hey, sometimes you’re better off being alone.” He mused, adding a shrug for good measure. “You can learn a lot about yourself outside of a relationship. A lot of personal development can happen that wouldn’t otherwise.” Spencer spoke from firsthand experience, a slight laugh escaping him at Natalie’s next words. “You don’t have a great track record. I’d say my love resume can give yours a run for its money. I wouldn’t wish anyone—well, maybe my worst enemy—get their marriage proposal rejected on live television.” Granted, a handful of his relationships failed because of him, but he’d been on the receiving end of heartbreak several times before. “So what is your goal then?”

“I have barely made a dent in my watch list.” she laughed, looking over at him before looking at the screen. “Lion King isn’t my favorite, I think my favorite is Beauty and The Beast.”

“You work too much, that’s why,” Spencer teased, his eyes fixated on the TV screen. “Hmm, Beauty and the Beast. Why doesn’t that surprise me?” He chuckled. “I know some people have issues with it though, something about how it’s fucked up that this girl falls in love with her captor. What do you think about that?”

He was right. He was absolutely, completely right, and there was nothing she could do to fix it. There was nothing she could say to make things better. She wanted to yell at him, saying how he was one to talk, how he wasn’t any better, but what good would it do? Her heart had broken time after time, every single day all over again. She’d waited too long to get over what she’d done, until she realised that would take forever. And then it was too late. She couldn’t go back. She couldn’t look in his eyes and face what she’d done. Leaving was easier. Definitely not the best choice. Making to work like adults was an easy thing to say now. Now everything would’ve been different. But back then she was barely an adult. She had been in her early twenties, not facing any of her problems and hiding her feelings from everyone. “ I know. ” It was like she suddenly forgot how to speak. Perhaps the alcohol  played its part, perhaps it was just the fact that someone finally told her what she’d been thinking all along. She didn’t know what to say. What could she say? He’d said it all. “ You’re right… I know you’re right, but there’s nothing I can do now. ” 

Maybe he’d gone too far, overstepped with his biting words. He hadn’t meant to hurt Robin, but it was obvious from the resigned tone of her voice, the way she’d so easily conceded defeat, that his words more than just stung. “I’m sorry,” Spencer blurted out. Gone was the icy frustration in his voice, replaced now by a much softer understanding, as he tried to see things from her perspective. “I honestly don’t know where that came from,” he admitted, letting out a long sigh as he ran his free hand through his hair. “And I don’t know either what you can do at this point.” He shook his head, unsure what else to say. Though he’d been friends with Robin many moons ago, Spencer didn’t want to advise her to seek out Luke, nor give her false hope that his best friend was interested in reconciliation. “Have you guys talked lately?”

Peter: We'll work out the monetary kinks and do a different promotion later in the year. But for now, we've got a lot of great footage that can be used. The editing team's going through it all now.

Peter: Play your cards right and you might be the next one. You could always pull a Peter Kraus, but the cult following does help sales. You were on two seasons of this show to find love and then created a dating app - your dating life will never not be relevant.

Spencer: Sounds like a plan. Just lmk when the final cut is ready, and I'll take a look then.

Spencer: Think I'd do well as a talk show host? In case this whole dating app thing doesn't work out. And touche. I'm probably disappointing the cult following rn. They're not getting any interesting content from me lately bc I've been good.

Spencer: Also, just a heads up. I'm going to be working from home for most of the week. If something urgent comes up, I'm happy to come in and handle it then.

Athena set down her glass and shoved a slice of pizza in her mouth. “It’s been a long day, but-” She set down her pizza and smiled widely after finishing the bite. “There were so many puppies!!!”

“I swear, being a vet is perfect for you.” Spencer laughed as he took a bite of his own slice of pizza. “I can’t see you as anything else. Maybe a dog walker, but this gig pays better, I’m sure.” He grinned. “When are you going to get your next puppy?”

Elsa sat at the bar, drumming her fingers on the table. She wanted to meet new people, feeling a good, positive energy in the air. After taking a sip of her drink, the specialty of the day, she turned to the person next to her. “What’s the coolest thing that has ever happened to you?”

“The coolest thing? Hmmm,” Spencer brought his glass up to his lips, taking a sip of his whiskey as he racked his brains for a specific memory that would answer Elsa’s question. “I’d have to go with the time I was visiting Paris, and I just missed the last metro of the night—like the doors just shut on me. So I step away from the train and turn around, pretty ticked because I had no other way of getting back to my hotel.” He quickly added, “This was before Uber, by the way. And there’s this French girl behind me, out of breath. Clearly, she was trying to make this train too.” He paused to take another sip of his drink. “We end up walking for an hour back to her place, and let’s just say that I didn’t leave ‘til the next morning.”

The tattoo shop loomed in the distance. Well, more like just across the street. She glanced over at her friend. “Hey, thanks for coming with me. I mean, this isn’t my first tattoo but it’s nice to have someone with you, you know? Someone to squeeze your hand when it gets a bit too painful. Last chance to decide if you want something though.” She teased as she grabbed their hand and led them across the street into the studio. It had been a while since her last tattoo and Sarah was infinitely grateful she had a friend with her.

“Not a problem at all. Happy to volunteer my hand for squeezing.” Spencer laughed, shaking his head as he allowed Sarah to lead him in the direction of the tattoo parlor. “As tempting as the offer is, I’m going to have to pass.”  He had no plans of getting inked, at least not in the near future. “I have no idea what I’d even get or which part of my body to put it on.” He followed her into the small studio, his eyes instantly scanning the room. “Do you already know what you’re getting?”

Peter: We might still be buying drinks all night, so we're thinking of changing up the incentive. We're going to get the crew to tweet out and publicize that we'll be filming for our new campaign during the bar crawl. It'll give us a chance to interact with the crowds, get some footage, and personally publicize the app to everyone who's there. We'll have fliers, cameras, and all that's being promised is that they 'could' make it into future marketing materials. Smaller budget with a higher return long term.

Peter: Good Morning America, Today Show, and Live with Kelly and Ryan, though we're looking to finalize at least one more. They'll be right around the time of when the contestants of Becca's season will be announced, so you'll be asked your opinion on the men, will be asked to give advice, and then updates on your life now - if you're seeing someone, your plans, your app. You'll do a shameless plug, give a smile, and we'll get you ushered out. I'll have your rider sent to the admin handling the travel accommodations and see what they come up with.

Spencer: I'm all for lower costs but greater overall earning potential. Take this idea and run with it. Good work, PV.

Spencer: How many co-hosts is Kelly Ripa going to go through before they realize they won't find another Regis? And ughhh. Kill me now. Being on The Bachelor is like joining a cult. Once you're part of it, you can't really escape. No offense to Becca, but I don't really care about her and whether or not she finds love. And why do they need to know if I'm seeing someone? How is that relevant?

“Me too! I swear I’ve had some of the same shit on my watch list since I joined Netflix.” she laughed. “Give me some variety!” Zoe grinned, plopping down next to Spencer on the couch and pressing ‘play’ on the DVD. “Of course it’s iconic! One of the best Disney movies ever.”

“I love that you have a watch list. Have you actually made a dent in it?” he asked, leaning back into the couch, the opening scene coming into view on the screen. “Is it your favorite? Or is there another movie that takes the cake for you?”

“Stop apologizing. A few more drinks in and I’ll be the one spilling on you,” he gave Spencer a gentle pat on his shoulder. He slightly smirked hearing the whistles and catcalls from others in the bar and gave Spencer and playful eye roll when he heard him speak again. “Maybe you should take yours off and everyone is going to be running to you instead,” he teased. He shook his shirt a little, not that it would make it drier any faster. For now he set it on the back of one of the surprisingly unoccupied bar stool. “Well since the ‘no shirt, no service’ policy hasn’t gone into full effect, I say yes to those shots.” He took a pause. “I think you may be my lucky charm after all.”

“Oh, so you’re a lightweight? Good to know,” Spencer teased, grinning and shaking his head at the other guy. “I don’t think this bar is quite ready for shirtless Spencer just yet.” Another laugh fell from his lips. He could only imagine tomorrow’s tabloids: ‘Former Bachelor Bares All at St. Patrick’s Day Pub Celebration.’ Spencer could already envision the scolding he‘d be sure to receive from his PR team for pulling a stunt like that. “But the night is young, so I wouldn’t count it out just yet.” He flagged down the bartender, ordering some shots of tequila, a quick, surefire way to get wasted. “Make sure you grab some lime and get some salt. You’re not going to want to just down this shot on its own, unless you’re a madman.”

Had the pregnancy brain that Lila mentioned to her started to take effect already? Or was it just that the situation right now made her so nervous that she was spewing whatever excuse popped into her mind for why she was at a drunken event. Either way, Spencer caught her in a lie, and she couldn’t help but feel the flushing of her cheeks in embarrassment. “Right, dancing. As if this little drink is suddenly going to make me be good at that,” she teased, taking a sip from the glass. “You’re more likely to get me to leave for that shake and fries than get me out on the dance floor.”

“It’s not like you’re auditioning for America’s Got Talent over here.” Spencer laughed, amused at her protesting. “It’s just me, Em. It’s not like I’m some dancing expert either, so come on. You don’t have to be embarrassed.” He took her free hand into his. “Tell you what. One dance. Just one, and if you hate it that much, you just say the word and we can shimmy on over to the exit, ditch this place, and get you that shamrock shake and fries.” He grinned, his body already moving to the rhythm of the music, his hand tugging on hers and coaxing her onto the dance floor. “What do you say?”

“Busy,” that was a given since the past week he had gone radio silent on basically everyone but those he worked with. He too looked through the menu despite of it already being engraved in his brain. “Nothing new,” he shook his head. Well that was sort of a lie and if he was going to bring up Emily later, he should be honest with his friend first. “Actually, I ran into Robin a couple of times so that plus the long lost brother, 2018 is quite the year.” Few seconds after the waitress came and took their orders. Now Luke could ask Spencer questions without being interrupted for a little while. “Other than that, how about you, everything going swell?”

“Regret becoming a doctor yet?” Spencer teased, though he really couldn’t imagine Luke as anything else but a medical professional. He was just an overall caring, nurturing guy. Spencer was relieved that Luke seemed happy to talk about himself, taking the attention away from him even for just a little bit. “Yeah, you’ve been having quite a year so far. Pretty hard to top that.” He laughed ironically, knowing full well that his own shitshow of a life could compare. “How is Robin, by the way? And how’s the brother?” he asked curiously, determined to keep deflecting. “Yeah, yeah. Everything’s swell. Can’t really complain.” Spencer felt guilty lying to Luke, but at the same time, the pregnancy wasn’t his news to tell. It was Emily’s, and if she hadn’t told Luke about the baby yet, he didn’t think he should be the one to break it to Luke. “Have you talked to Emily lately?” It was his own roundabout way of getting a sense what Luke knew and didn’t.

“I gotta be channeling the same Irish heritage too. I mean, my mom was straight Italian but my dad and his family? Irish as a shamrock.” The Guinness was a nice touch to the holiday and celebrating his Irish roots. Owen was sure that Gwen would forgive him for getting a drink first while she was still up and performing. Lifting the mug up to the other man, Owen began to drink the free drink that he had received. “Seriously, thanks for the first of what is hopefully many.” 

“Oh, wow. Irish and Italian? That must’ve been some loud household growing up,” Spencer teased, a soft laugh falling from his lips. He thought back to his own childhood, his own home rarely ever noisy, given the fact that his parents were almost always working, leaving him and his older brother there alone, accompanied by a revolving door of nannies and au pairs. “Not a problem at all, man. Just looking to spread the wealth.” He grinned, taking another sip of his alcohol. “Just promise you’re not going to be one of those ‘two drinks and I’m out’ kind of guy. That’d be really disappointing.”

“I got into a bar fight. Some asshat was hitting on me and not taking no for an answer…so I decked him.” Zoe laughed a little bit. The blonde nodded in thanks when Spencer handed her her drink and she took a sip of the alcohol. “They aren’t having me work, so I’m going crazy.”

“Well, I’d give you a high five for giving that douchebag what he deserved, but that would probably get in the way of the whole healing process.” Spencer chuckled, taking another sip of his drink. “Going crazy? Pretty sure you got there a long time ago,” he teased. “But really, just enjoy the time off work. Relax. You’ll have plenty of time to work later.”

Robin let out a short laugh, accompanied by an eyeroll. The fact that she’d already had way too much to drink definitely didn’t help the situation and everything that had been bottled up in the past four years was so close to just exploding. “ Of course not. That’s the point. ” Robin snapped back. She didn’t even take in that there was a chance that it was all just a coincidence. But the words that followed were like a knife in her stomach. She could actually physically feel the pain the words caused. “ Really, Spencer? You think I laughed while turning him down? Do you think I’ve been laughing ever since? That I enjoyed what I did? And before you go on the whole ‘Luke is an absolute saint’ path: he’s human. He too makes mistakes, no matter how sweet and thoughtful he is. There were things I didn’t bring up – things we didn’t talk about. If I would’ve said yes that night, we would’ve been way further from home, trust me. ” The blonde swallowed hard as she tried her best to ignore the fact that her eyes were tearing up. She’d never said the words out loud. And definitely not to his best friend. “ I’m not perfect, and I regret what I did every single day, but that does not give you the right to act like I’m the only person to ever do something wrong. ”

This is not what Spencer had signed up for when he’d decided to go out that night. He didn’t want to be fighting with his best friend’s ex-girlfriend, let alone in front of a bunch of strangers. “You might not have laughed, but you did leave. You just completely disappeared off the face of the Earth, ghosted him, left him wondering where the hell you were and if there was anything he could do to get you back,” he retorted. “Sure, Luke isn’t the perfect guy. He makes mistakes. He’s human, I’ll give you that,” he conceded. “But you don’t just get up and leave. You don’t just rage quit. You don’t just let a three-year relationship go, Robin.” Spencer wasn’t sure where these words were coming from. They partially stemmed from secondhand frustration on behalf of his best friend, yet another part was deeply rooted in his own anger toward his parents’ failed marriage. In Spencer’s eyes, they were a clear example of two people who could’ve made it together, had they just stuck it out and tried to work through their issues. “You stay and you make it work like fucking adults.”
