DWTS Finale Review!
What a fun finale!
I know I haven’t posted much on the season itself but I really enjoyed it. Mark and Charli were compelling and impeccable all the way through and I loved seeing Mark’s choreography shine. He is obviously brilliantly creative but the part that always impresses me is how precisely he can interpret the music and all of the nuances. He really brings it to life and Charli has beautiful technique and really brought it every week. All the way through the season I was immediately stopping and rewinding their dances several times through as I was watching because there were just so rich!
I wasn’t sold on Gabby’s personality at first but I think she actually had a really funny dry sense of humor and I liked her partnership with Val. She was a good technical dancer but I didn’t always see the emotion expressed on the dance floor in every dance. She had the strength and presence to pull off Cell Block Tango but I think would have liked to see something that was a bit more about her, maybe even something with some silliness or comedy thrown in or something of the dance styles she’d studied in the past (more cheer/jazz/even ballet? I think I saw a pic of her in high school with pointe shoes which means she had some substantial training there.)
Shangela stole the show for the freestyle in terms of performance value. Incredible showmanship, so fun, I loved to see her shine in her element and I loved to see Gleb go in and bring it too! I think she spoke so well on bringing love in the midst of hate and celebrating differences and I think she was a great ambassador in that sense.
I didn’t connect a lot with Wayne during the season and Whitney (understandably) didn’t have quite the energy that she normally does, but I enjoyed their freestyle and the personality and showmanship that he brought to it. All in all a great finale!!
