Update: Jury’s still out on whether that was a date or not and I was quite anxious the whole time, but it was still a very pleasant day and I’m glad I was finally brave enough to do something about this longstanding will they won’t they situation we’ve had going on.

There’s a big storm coming through my area tonight/tomorrow and I could use some good vibes. And by good vibes I mean that I need the power to go out just before 6:30 tomorrow morning when we’ll know if school is cancelled and then to come back on just before 8:30 when school would start so I get a free vacation day.

Some important life updates in no particular order:

- My Christmas tree is already up. Along with most of the rest of my Christmas decorations. It’s the only thing that keeps me going.

- I’m watching DWTS this season, but I skipped the Halloween episode because I had a headache and went to bed early and then Jenn and Sasha were eliminated and now I’ve spiraled into a DWTS depression because they were my favorites.

- I have one other important life update that is currently TBD. Just need like one teeny tiny extra ounce of courage. Stay tuned for further updates.

Did some home improvement work this weekend.

Survived the first two (surprisingly pleasant) weeks of the new school year and now I’m sick. That checks out. I was torn on whether we were going to start reading our first novel this week, but since all I really have to do is press play on the audiobook and sit there all day, we will definitely be starting this week.

First day back at work today. I had meetings today from 8:00-10:00, 10:00-11:00, 11:00-11:30, and 1:00-2:00. Plus two more online trainings sprung on us at the last minute. I did those during lunch and meeting #4. (They’re the yearly trainings we have to do. Like one is about pest management and the questions are like “true or false the best way to keep bugs out of your classroom is by throwing food all over the floor and opening all the windows.”) Now I need a nap.

Also relevant: We have 6 different bell schedules depending on the day of the week. And there are indeed only 5 school days in a week. It’s a long story…

So get this. I frequently try to hype up my cowardly self to ask out my work crush because like it’s stupid at this point. Like I’m 95% sure she likes me so it’s just dumb. But whatever. So we go back to work next week (not sure if she’ll be there next week because her schedule is a little different than mine, but definitely by the week after next) and I told myself just do it. As soon as I see her, just do it. If I think about it for too long, I’ll talk myself out of it. Don’t wait. Just do it.

So I get home from my last summer camping trip this morning and I’m unloading the car and someone drives past me and it’s her?!?!?! What are the fucking odds. Turns out she’s pet sitting for another coworker who lives a few houses down from me. I mean if I was just a minute earlier or later, I would have been in the house setting stuff inside instead of standing out front unloading the car and I would have missed her. So I get it, universe. I hear you. Message received.

Picked my first two blueberries of the season, so it’s officially summer. 🫐

Today I wore my “protect trans kids” shirt to work, which I do on a fairly regular basis. In my last class of the day, I had a kid throw such a huge fit about it that I had to send him to the office. (And I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve sent a kid to the office this year.) Unfortunately for him, there’s a lot more where that came from.

I decided to make homemade buttermilk biscuits and went into it with my expectations very low. Turns out I’m about to quit my job and open a biscuit restaurant because these things are to die for.

54 books I could part with that I’m hoping to drop off on my Little Free Library field trip tomorrow. Also I like to collect used Harry Potter books, fix them up a little, and send them back into the world with a little more hope than before.
