it just doesnt make sense.
1. Some women on this platform that claim that the ability to detransition into a woman is a privilege and/or claim that people transition into men to gain privilege, or that trans men gain privilege as a side effect of being men.
2. So detransitioning to men must allow trans women to gain safety and stability again should they need it, too. Because, as we said already, trans men are privileged or gain privilege as a side effect of being men, therefore, being a man means you are rewarded with privilege.
3. ...Um, well, apparently, that's not true. Trans women are actually not privileged when they detransition because theyre only detransitioning for safety and stability. They are still trans women, just pretending to be men. It's not a privilege for trans women to have to detransition. For a lot of trans women, it's worse than death.
4. Damn, that's awful. So, many trans men that are detransitioning are still trans men on the inside, they just have to pretend to be women and are LESS privileged because theyre only detransitioning for safety and stability! Wait... or no they don't? Because we already established that in point 1, the ability to detransition into women is a privilege. Wait, so does this imply that cis women actually have privilege over cis men? Since detransitioning to a woman is a privilege, while detransitioning to a man is not.
5. No.
If this line of thinking seems confusing or raises a lot of questions or creates a feedback loop of flawed and conflicting logic, it's because it does not work. It only works if you believe that:
A) cis women DO have power over cis men (provably false unless you are ignorant of history and the world at large, so this answer goes out the window).
B) Cispatriarchial power dynamics can be equally and easily applied to binary people who are not cis... but then you still would be forced to agree that the ability to transition back into a man is a privilege that trans men do not possess and that detransitioning to a woman is not a privilege. You also have to prove in a meaningful way that trans binary power dynamics exist and mimic cispatriarchial power dynamics 1:1.
OR,
C) Being a woman is more favorable to being a man even if its less privileged, especially if being a woman would also make you cis.
The insistence of a theoretical amount of blanket privilege that trans men hold in comparison to trans women in all scenarios only serves to obfuscate, bolster and justify transphobia and misogyny targeted at trans men.
