Large bearded guy looking scared in the VR glasses ith his move stick. Classic
Personally, I don’t like the move add ons that much. I’m much more of a controller guy. Even with the VR on.
A New Year, a new hobby
Actually, I have two new hobbies. One is bloggin about the things that interest me, I’ll explain more on that later. The other is the PS VR. What a great way to spend my time gaming! Awesome. I’ve loved it because of the reviews on this site, and ever since I played it constantly. Here is my own review for you to check out:
PlayStation VR Review
Priced at $399 when reviewed, Sony’s PlayStation VR comes at an affordable price. Though the VR experience is not as good as Oculus Rift, but it is a good buy considering that it uses a PS4 instead of other expensive PC gaming rigs.
2 Varieties
PlayStation VR is sold in 2 varieties. The first one is a basic PlayStation VR package, priced at $399 that includes the main PlayStation VR system, the headphones, and the required wires/cables. The second one is a PlayStation Launch Bundler which has the PS VR system, 2 PS motion controllers, 1 PS Camera along with a copy of PS VR worlds at $499. If you don’t own a PS camera or controllers, PlayStation Launch Bundler is a better choice here.
How does it work?
PlayStation VR completely immerses you in the virtual world by generating 2 images simultaneously by sending them to a headset a few feet away from you. Also, it does not require a graphic card like the competition as PS 4’s inbuilt GPU does it for you. Though there might be a problem due to the presence of only one camera to track what’s happening which limits the distance you can walk while playing a game. I would recommend you to stay in 2 positions, either sit down or stand up and be still.
Graphical Capacity and Response Rate
The PlayStation VR can handle 1080p games on its display at either 120 GHz or 90 GHz. The specification for display is OLED, RGB and 1920 x 1080. Coming to the response rate, it is about 18 miles seconds i.e. 0.002 seconds which is still faster than the highest acceptable latency in the industry.
Design
The design of PlayStation VR is one of the most attractive designs seen for VR headsets till now. There are matte plastic touches of black and white at the head mounted display with the 7 front-facing blue lights are picked up by PS Camera to track your head movement and location. There are 2 more blue lights on the back of the strip to detect your movement in games requiring you to turn around, hence bringing the total to 9.
Moreover, the PSVR’s secret of comfort lies in the fact that it hangs most of its weight at the top of your dome, hence putting lesser weight and pressure on your forehead and the nose. Inside the headset, there is an OLED screen of 5.7 inches with 1920 X 1080 pixel RGB resolution.
Performance
With Oculus Rift setting high standards as for how a good VR experience should be, I found the Sony’s PS VR as surprising. The PS VR is capable of displaying more than 2 crisp images which might not be the most amazing things to blow out your mind, yet it is more than sufficient for a vast majority of games. With over precise head-tracking and a 100-degree field of view, you would rarely feel nauseated. Having tried games such as Batman: Arkham VR, SuperHyperCube, DriveClub VR and Tumble VR over a week, the PlayStation VR is worth its price.
Conclusion
Overall, the PlayStation VR is incredible apart from a few hang-ups here and there. With being an affordable option in the range of quality VR, the experience is not as crisp as Oculus Rift but considering that it uses a PS 4 instead of any other expensive gaming set-up, it is still worth it.
