aqours trio unit naming project☆
dengeki g’s has just released the options for aqours’ trio sub-unit names on their website. voting begins on 2/1.
these are translations for the unit naming options as well as each respective submitter’s comments/explanations. (do correct me if i’ve made any errors!)
a combination of “kyutto” (romanisation of “cute” in english) meaning cute, and a cat’s mew (myaa). it carries the hope for everyone to love the unit’s members.
the 3 of them are naturally cute and seem sweet-smelling, so i guess that must feel something like cocoa!
3. CYaRon! (pronounced sharon)
combining the “C” of chika, “Y” of you, and “R” of ruby to form a cute sounding name, sharon!
i submitted this name with the hopes that they will soar towards their dreams.
the name is derived from ka-you-bi (the ka from chika, you and bi from ruby; the reading of 火曜日, which is tuesday in japanese) - “tuesday” (chuuzudei). “chu”, the onomatopoeia for a kiss was taken to make “chu’s day!”.
[note: there is an exising japanese band called “Chu’s day.” and they are in the process of getting in touch with love live staff due to the clash of names.]
i think the energetic members would give everyone courage
7. Hidamari Flowers (lit. sunshine flowers)
a bright and cute name for the 3 girls. i want to see the sunshine.
this is the english word for “young girl”. i feel that it’s a suitable name for the 3 bright, lively girls.
9. +chip (pronounced plus chip)
an energetic type name for the 3 girls. it feels like a combination of the tic of romantic and pudding (sweet and energetic?).
10. Mimi flore (pronounced mimi flora)
This is derived from the French term for cute flower goddesses. These 3 girls are energetic and playful so i think it suits them well.
1. AZALEA (pronounced azelia)
this is taken from the azalea flower of Shizuoka. i would like them to have a melody like the flower’s. the language of flowers for azalea fits their image too.
2. KazaHana (lit. snowflake)
a snowflake floating down in the clear sky, like these elegant, beautiful girls.
“kanaria” suits their pretty singing voices. also, if you combine the romanisations of the members’ names, you would get “kanaria”.
4. Clepat (pronounced kurepatto)
cleopatra is one of the world’s 3 greatest beauties. the 3 members are very pretty.
5. Komorebi (lit. sunlight filtering through the leaves of trees)
it represents a gentle kind of feeling, like sunshine.
6. Sazanka (lit. mountain tea flower)
a combination of the 山(mountain) of kanan’s favourite place, mt. fuji, the 茶(tea) one of dia’s skills, conducting tea ceremonies, and the 花(hana) of hanamaaru’s name.
a combination of shara (sai tree) and “sharaan”. it has an elegant taste and sparkling feel, which is suitable for the unit’s image.
derived from the “hibis” of hibiscus. dia’s hairpiece looks like a hibiscus.
a combination of a character each from each member’s name.
a combination of “nami” (wave) and “minamo” (water surface) would be namiminamo or naminamo, if you read that backwards it’s “monamina”.
a combination of “vamp” [from “vampire”] and “pop”.
fitting for a slightly grown up and koakuma (lit. little devil)-like unit.
a combination of “chrom”, derived from the “kurom” in kuroyume (lit. black dream) and “cross”. it can be shortened to “CC” or “kurokuro”. the name was made with the western gothic and chuunibyou vibe of the unit.
4. Koakuma Individual (lit. little devil individual)
it is derived from the dark aura and character of a koakuma (little devil - a character archetype/image).
5. Sumire Gumi (lit. purple group)
it means to dive into the arms of one’s beloved.
i think that no matter how you look at them, these girls are “pipii” (or similarly, “papaa”) [means something like quick/quickly(?)].
all members are named after flowers, and i feel that their personalities have a mysterious charm.
these are the initials of each member’s given name. this name carries the meaning of “carrying out activities with all your heart”(?) and ‘rejuvenating your heart”.
a combination of “lolita” and “gothic”. don’t these girls have a dark aura?
