It’s considered an honor for any Pokemon trainer to meet Professor Oak himself: the leading specialist of Pokemon. So when word came across that the acclaimed professor was going to hold a seminar, Brendan was quick to travel all the way from Saffron City (he had been staying there on vacation) to the quaint town of Pallet.

After the seminar, filled with starstruck trainers, eye-opening quotes from the professor and a few demo battles, Brendan walks around aimlessly around the small village. There’s a certain nostalgic charm to this town, despite never having been here before. It reminds him of Littleroot, what with the peace and quiet.

He sits down on a nearby bench, feeling uncomfortable at first, before realizing he was actually sitting on top of a small pink wallet. He grabs it, going back to the lab and approaching the first closest person he sees. After all, the owner should be nearby, right?

“Hey! I was wondering if this is yours? Or if you happen to know the owner of this?" He asks, holding out the same wallet, continuing to ramble afterwards. “I found it on a bench around here. I accidentally sat on it, which is pretty funny now that I think of it.”

❀Foggy Memories║Brendan + May

Eyes locked on him, May had to bite her lip to refrain from calling out in glee, joy and a bit of annoyance. It had been since forever she’d met the other face to face, the two often always being in different places of Hoenn at the same time. But then again, it wasn’t as if they were seeking each other out. In fact, after Victory Road, they had split paths and slowly, but surely, lost contact with each other. Wally was still a good friend of hers since they’d met, but as for Brendan ?? She wasn’t so sure.

They did have the occasional talk over the Pokenav, or chatting about Professor Birch’s work and their progress on helping him, but outside of that, it was just rare to spot him. Period. Even with that funny hat of his, she never could catch him anywhere.

A few steps towards him and a wave, followed by her signature smile. 「 Brendan !! 」, a call, hoping he’d heard that over the busy streets of Slateport City ( afternoons were always crowded with people coming and going ) as she wormed through the crowd and then continued once he was in arm’s reach, 「 Hey hey, how have you been ?? I haven’t seen you in a long while !! 」

Even with her smile and the cheery attitude, there was a small bit of doubt that, the other Trainer didn’t want to keep in contact and had walked a separate path to keep himself distant. But brushing that thought to the side, she looked forward to the best in his reply, or at the very least, a “ hi ” back.

The sun is about to set when he flies into the bustling Slateport. He doesn’t mind, however; he finds the port town prettier with the tint of orange spread all around. Returning Fura to her PokeBall, he quickly goes to the famous Slateport market, not wanting to miss out on the huge sale they’re having.

As expected, it is crowded. Colorful stalls and chattering people filled the area, with each person desperately trying to move around with ease, not afraid of rudely pushing others just to make their way. Brendan knows the Slateport market like the back of his hand, but somehow manages to get lost in the sea of people and Pokemon alike.

He strolls around the market, breathing in the warm sea breeze that takes him back to an earlier time, when he hears a familiar voice.

“Hey hey, how have you been? I haven’t seen you in a long while!”

Brendan knows this voice far too well. He doesn’t need to look back to know that the voice comes from an old friend—an old friend with a reunion long overdue.

“Hey!” He cheers a bit too loudly, then proceeds to a slightly softer tone once they’re close enough. “I’ve been doing some travelling and - wow - it’s been way too long. What’s going on with you?”

“There must be a Heart Scale here somewhere. . .”

He paces around the beach area for possibly the seventh time now, checking everywhere for the valuable item. Brendan looks under seashells, behind palm trees and even on the shallow seawater. No luck, however.

Looking for Luvdisc isn’t an option. He has absolutely no Pokemon in hand, with them resting in the Pokemon center after an exhausting small tournament he took part in the day before. During said tournament, he discovered new moves that aren’t part of his Pokemon’s natural moveset or through technical machines: they were taught through special move tutors.

And that’s precisely the reason as to why Brendan is wandering around the beach, looking for Heart Scales under the scorching heat of the sun at half past two in the afternoon.

The sun wouldn’t be scorching for too long though, as dark clouds start to plague the once vibrant sky in the blink of an eye. Trainers (including Brendan himself) quickly rush to the nearest Pokemon center as a drizzle kicks in.

Taking a seat down near the window, he scoffs as the drizzle turns into a thunderstorm, with the beach area being blurred out thanks to the fog the onset of rain brought.

“Welp . . . looks like no heart scales for me then.”

Route 34 | Brendan & Kris

It’s dawn when he wakes up in a Goldenrod hotel room — around quarter to five, to be specific. Soft shades of blue color the skies before the sun’s warm tones begin to kick in. Brendan rubs his eyes, then (after bouncing to the realm of consciousness) immediately prepares his running shoes and athletic attire, ready for a bright new day ahead.

He walks through the streets of Goldenrod, ignoring the fact that his childhood apartment has long since been replaced with a fire station, or that the small garden he used to play around in is now a small kindergarten. That’s the city for you. It has grown, is still growing, and will continue to grow.

Whereas Littleroot never changed. No matter how far he traveled, when he comes home, it will still be home. And it was comforting, knowing that there’s always a familiar environment he can stay in for a while when he feels stressed.

Reaching the gate at the end of the city, he enters Route 34, which he remembers playing with all the Pokemon near the daycare. Those were the times. Plugging his earphones in his PokeNav, he plays the Hoenn Sound radio station and begins jogging through the route.

After jogging for a bit, he drinks from his water bottle and proceeds to sit down on a nearby wooden chair, catching his breath. What he doesn’t notice, however, is a bag placed under it, signalling that the seat is taken. Instead, he lets his mind wander off to the music.
