"Tutorial" on how to draw an OC with dwarfism (well, some of it).
Boring tired disclaimer: Keep in mind that this is an introductory "drawing" "tutorial" and has some generalizations in it, so not every “X is Z” statement will be true for Actual People. Which happens to be true for everything in general.
You are heavily encouraged to do your own research because this does not contain everything you should know before making a character with any type of dwarfism.

Im fully debating whether or not I should add my most morally "gray" (closer to light black really) characters and/or the horror AU for my new guys to my art fight after I finish updating the Organization crew.
Unfortunately my main deciding factor is "how triggering is too triggering to safely put on art fight" for the first, and "how much gore am I even allowed to put on art fight" for the second.
There's also the itty bitty issue of possibly triggering MYSELF with the morally gray ones, because I am rather prone to projecting my own issues onto these guys and I have a lot of very sensitive issues projected onto one of them in particular. I'd need at least 15 trigger warnings for just... their background alone.
Ive added details to all my new guys connections :D
Also lots of little lore drops in there. The most lore is in Uksakka's connections and the Lovebirds. The writing style of everyone's connections is intentional, because it's their own writing styles! Uksakka's is in the POV it is on purpose too. You'll understand more with time :)))

The Ballet Trio
Iben, Uksakka, and Jingyi have all been taking ballet since they were kids. Eun-ji's dropped in on the lessons more than a few times now, either to watch Jingyi perform or to hang out with them after, and is known as "that child who tried to steal a prop sword". She tried to do that on 5 separate occasions. He will never live it down.
Uksakka tries her best, but between her joint pain and her fatigue, she needs to take frequent breaks during class. She usually ends up falling asleep while waiting for whoever is taking her home, which is usually either her family, Iben's family, or Iben themself. Sometimes Jingyi's mom comes to pick everybody up, but not often.
Jingyi stopped caring about ballet when they were 12. Nobody knows why they're still in the class, but they no longer audition for any roles like they did as a kid. Does like to use their ballet skills to do things like being dramatic, and dancing with Eun-ji.
Iben adores dance. She's gotten the lead role several times, and their only issue is that so many people are confused by his decision to take gendered lead roles. Her only comment is "I don't actually give a fuck about whether I'm playing a "boy". I just wish they had more sorcerers to play". Takes off their hearing aides for classes, but keeps them on during actual performances.
SOMEBODY is slacking off in ballet. Not that they cared much to begin with

They have a playlist now! It's only a handful of songs for now, so I recommend listening on shuffle. Also, there's themes there. Lore related. :)) It's great. Please enjoy my musics lol. I also added the playlist to Jingyi and Eun-ji's profiles on art fight so it's there too.

Im making a special playlist for the lovebirds (Jingyi and Eun-ji) that I'm really excited to add to their profiles. Those two are practically conjoined at the hip with how close they are, of course they get the special playlist
School Morning Rides
Iben and Atka take turns carrying Uksakka to school on days when she's too tired to walk the distance. Atka doesn't ride anything except cars, and while Uksakka does carry her helmet at all times, she doesn't have a scooter anymore like she did as a child. The helmet is in case Iben picks her up on the bike.
When Atka carries Uksakka, Iben walks their bike while he carries both her and Atka's bags, and when Iben carries Uksakka, they either have her on his bike or she walks the bike, while Atka carries Iben's bag and their own. Whoever isn't carrying her is in charge of her parasol, but she forgot it at home the day of this picture.
Atka likes to lead the charge with Iben and Uksakka, but Eun-ji and Jingyi will always take the lead by a long shot overall. Eun-ji is a sensory seeker and has always loved racing down the big hill on the way to school, and Jingyi can easily keep up. Neither of them wear helmets, much to the dismay of Atka and Uksakka, especially since they're both so likely to crash.
Also, in case you hadn't noticed, literally everybody but those two know they like eachother. They're the only ones who haven't noticed yet, or at least, haven't admitted that they've noticed yet.

I've done it. I've described them. Anyways the school walk wins for the first one I'm gonna do but any results for the other ones will decide what order I do the rest in so yeah keep voting :)

Alright I'm ready this time
Jingyi: Would probably crack some joke about being famous, accepts the cake and wanders off to go see if Eun-ji's around.
Eun-ji: It better be chocolate flavored. Absolutely loves chocolate. Probably jokes about kissing someone (not even remotely serious unless it's directed at Jingyi, those two have been "joke" flirting since they met), then immediately texts them to see if they're around.
Atka: Very very carefully accepts, but only because they uh... they don't really have depth perception? They actually have a huge sweet tooth, they're just worried about dropping it or messing up the cake. Takes it home and puts it in the fridge for later.
Uksakka: Will very tentatively accept. A bit more excited if the cake is like, a cheesecake or something along those lines, but definitely nervous about accepting. Probably messages Iben for a bike ride home so she can carry it easier, if she's not already there in the neighborhood or directly with him.
Iben: Yeah, sure, this isn't that uncommon of a thing for them. You don't get as popular as her at school without at least 1 random gift you aren't expecting. Not the hugest fan of sweets, but will absolutely accept cake, especially since it's a good way to get Those Two (Eun-ji and Jingyi of course) out of trouble BEFORE they actually do something insane without the rest of them around. Messages the group chat to meet up for food and cake, probably at the diner.

The dancer trio is Jingyi, Uksakka, and Iben btw.
Basic Info: she/they/he, 16 years old, Deaf, Waardenburg Syndrome Type 1, NSL and BTE hearing aide user. Goes "voice off" more often now that she's older and he doesn't feel a need to wear their hearing aides all the time. Mostly texts with friends.
Personal Info: Iben moved from Lagos to Oregon at age 10 with their parents. Attends the same school as Atka, Uksakka, Eun-ji, and Jingyi. Has identified as a genderqueer since age 6 but has changed pronouns since. Shortish (5 foot 5), ballet dancer, a musical and academic prodigy, and considered a bit intimidating because of that. Top grades in the school except for classes related to language arts, extremely popular. First language is English and NSL, and has a language class exemption. Trying to learn ASL but easily frustrated by it and chooses to simply not talk/communicate with most people. She plays violin and is an extremely skilled dancer. Describes his gender as "sorcerer" in reference to an inside joke with their friends.
Disability Info: Waardenburg Syndrome Type 1 causes Iben to have wideset eyes, a broad nose, severe deafness and pigmentation loss including early gray hairs. She used to wear their hearing aides more often as a child, but he's taken to removing them unless she's in class or talking to their friends. Uses Nigerian Sign Language at home with their parents, who are also Deaf.
When I say they're a prodigy, I do in fact mean literally one of the best in her entire neighborhood and his entire state and essentially if you hand Iben an instrument or a dance routine they are acing it.
Basic Info: she/her, 16 years old, Childhood Onset Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, Generalized Vitiligo, Level 1 MSN Autism (needing support). Uses a parasol/umbrella both for UV/Rain protection and as a cane, along with compression gear and a wheelchair for at home.
Personal Info:
Uksakka moved from Karasjok to Oregon at age 10 with her dad when she developed Lupus and was unable to tolerate the cold anymore. Attends the same school as Atka, Iben, Eun-ji, and Jingyi. Came out at age 13 as a trans girl. Short (5 foot 2), ballet dancer, anxious, and considered rather awkward/rude. She's the best student in the group but she frequently pushes herself too hard, and Atka and Jingyi have taken to forcing her to rest. First language is English, but she's also fluent in North Sami and Norwegian, and is taking French. She dresses extremely fem, to the point of wearing a petticoat frequently and refusing to wear non-legging/stocking leg covers.
Disability Info:
SLE causes her to have hair thinning (it used to be much thicker as a child), sun sensitivity, face and joint swelling, chronic fatigue and pain, and frequent migraines. She also has Raynaud's Syndrome as a side effect, which is part of the reason she uses compression gloves, as it keeps her hands slightly warmer. She has Level 1 Autism, and has always been low-masking, but she's stopped being anxious enough with friends that she's no longer minimally verbal like she was as a child and has instead been diagnosed with Situational Mutism.
Yes, she is wearing a petticoat at all times. She's the femmest fem that ever femmed. She has been since she was a kid, well before she even realized she was actually a girl. She's terrified of pretty much every other girl at school btw. Too lesbian. They intimidate her.
