#it’s never going to look real anyways #movies are just spending millions to push us further into the uncanny valley #practical effects over sfx any day #but if we’re doing cgi and mocap can we at least stop lying to ourselves #the new avatar movies are unsettling to me #they waited 15 years to make the second one so that they’d have better computer effects #and sure it looks better #but it’s still creepy to me #and horror movies nowadays are like 90% computer generated scary faces #that’s an exaggeration but I don’t watch a lot of horror #the best looking computer generated stuff and motion capture is still very uncanny valley to me #and like we thought the effects looked good 20 years ago too #and now when you watch a 20 year old movie it looks goofy as hell #do they think these will last any longer?#our eyes and brains get better at detecting these things really fast #we aren’t getting more realistic we’re just widening the uncanny valley #like I watched legion last night for the first time in a while #and the effects looked just as good if not better than stuff I’ve watched in the past year #why is shit so expensive if it doesn’t look any better?#and why is the money still being wasted on it when I feel like so many people would prefer practical effects anyways

So Eddington assaults a superior officer, commits treason, does a bunch of sabotage, steals supplies and replicators. Then when Sisko comes after him he’s like “hey you’re Javert and I’m Valjean”. And then Siskos like “nuh-uh” and immediately becomes way worse than Javert

#I feel like maybe neither of them got the story #what I can’t tell though is if that was the point or not #I know Eddington not getting it was intentional #but was I supposed to agree with siskos analysis of things? was that what the writer believed?#yall know how I feel about the maquis plot #the writing is dumb and bad and it pisses me off #90% of the time I’m on the maquis’ side #also I feel like maybe the ship being named malinche was a bit of a hint but I can’t tell exactly what #star trek #ds9 #Star Trek ds9 #sorry I love Les mis #I have lots of opinions about it #and I didn’t really like it insistence on Javert being the “villain””’#he is most certainly the antagonist #but in the end is he not ultimately a victim of the same system as Valjean?#“’I was born with scum like you’ he’s motivated by self hatred #he believes that upholding the law will please the lord and keep him safe #when he’s incapable of doing this he sees no way out other than death #he sees Valjean refusal to kill him as one last slight against him that he just couldn’t take #it’s the thing that finally makes him question what he’s lived by his entire life #my main point is that in any story like that (including the maquis) the ultimate villain is the system that was set up to allow this #okay I’m running out of tags I’m done now #neither Sisko nor Eddington is the villain in the story it’s the federation that handed away these people’s homes and the cardassians #that steal people’s homes #and the villain of Les mis was the government that set up so strict a system that it pushed men to die by it rather than live by it

My favorite part of Trials and Tribble-ations is Sisko literally having to hold Dax’s hand so she doesn’t run off to hang out with Koloth/fuck McCoy/flirt with Spock
