Walking across the country for Kindness

We’re still here!

And boy do we have updates for you! I’ve been mostly focusing on my facebook & twitter pages (@SPNFanGirlWalks for both!) but guess what! We’re partnered with @randomactsorg to do Kindness Events across the country! We’ll be stopping in multiple cities along the way to do donation drives, park clean ups, visiting folks in nursing homes & children’s sick wards, basically if it’s something we can do to bring happiness to folks, I want to do it!

Not only that, but I was able to go to VanCon this past week and got to tell @mishacollins about the whole thing!

Here’s the deal though, in order for me to be able to do this grand adventure, I need to raise $10,000. 5k of that is for gear, and the other 5k is to be able to feed myself along the way. If you can, can you toss a couple bucks my way? If you can’t, that’s okay! Reblog the heck out of this and spread the word!

The Route Part 2

Here's Part 2 of the Walk.

Setting out from Lawrence, KS and heading into Colorado and the stops there being Colorado Springs and Grand Junction. I don't know a whole lot except this is where I'll be crossing through the Rockies.

Eureka, Utah and Nevada are the only points I have selected for these states cuz I think the name is awesome and otherwise, there's nothing as of right now that says "Go to this spot!" but that may change on the road. So long as I plan for enough water in these states and try to pick the best routes that are too desolate, I should be okay. Though along this route is Route 50, also known as the loneliest road, but with enough planning, and the fact that by this time I will have my endurance/stamina up, I hope to make that 100 mile stretch with little trouble.

Lake Tahoe, CA I think would be a great entrance into California as I enter my final state for the homestretch.

Redwood City, CA is where I was born, and I want to take some time there and walk around where I spent part of my childhood. It would be a good place to reflect as it's only about 20 miles from my final destination point....

Pacifica, CA is the finish line and where I will conclude my adventure.

The Route Part 1

The rough route of the first half of the walk. The starting point being in Atlantic City. I figure that this will be both the easiest and hardest part of the trip all at once.

Easy because the east is much more densely populated and getting things like food and places to sleep.

The hardest because I'll just be starting out and I will be working on getting my stamina and endurance up. It's 60 miles from Atlantic City to Philadelphia and while I hope that I can average 20 miles a day, but first starting out, I'd be very happy if this first stretch took me 4 days and I can push 15 miles out a day, though I shouldn't beat myself up it if takes me 5 or 6 because like I said, I'll be just starting out, though I know me, and if barring bad weather, I only get 10 miles in a day, I will feel like that is a very sad showing.

I've got friends in Philly that I would love to see, hence the stop there. The other point in PA and the stops in Ohio are mostly just because they're bigger points on the map and a good guideline for where I should be going.

Indianapolis mostly for the fact it's a city and a good point on the map, much the same as the places in Ohio, though who knows, maybe I could get lucky and figure out a way to meet John Green? That would be pretty nifty.

Hannibal, MO purely because I like the name and I'm sure some fellow fangirl/boy friends will be amused.

Kansas City, cuz if I didn't I know a friend that would be super upset if I didn't.

And Lawrence, cuz well, the name of this page is SPN Fangirl Walks, and what kind of fangirl would I be if I didn't make a stop at the place where the story began?

A personal goal that I would love to strive for is trying to get all my gear through Amazon Smile program as Random Acts, under it’s parent company/umbrella name The Art Department Inc., is an option as a charity that Amazon will donate 0.5% of every purchase I’m able to make.

The whole trip is going to be about doing random acts of kindness in the name of Random Acts, and I feel like this would be a good way to keep that theme going

Well I’m gonna need a stroller to hold all my gear for this epic walk. And I think I’ve settled on a good choice for it. Reviews seem pretty good. The weight capacity seems decent, coming in at 88lbs. It as a swivel wheel in the front so it can be easily maneuvered as well as a hand brake. 

Most of this I’ll be going into my decisions somewhat blindly or based off of recommendations of people who know what they’re talking about better than I.
