crawlingmantra replied to your post: Answering Spooky Asks Time! First off ...
I had a ferret that I got a friend for years later and it was awful; he was really territorial and they did not get along. Eventually had to get seperate cages because he would attack her at night. He got over it eventually but it was a nightmare.
When we first got Pumpkin, Spooky hadn't been around another ferret in years and so she was very vicious towards her in the beginning. It was a lot of trial and error to get them used to each other (we forced them to take baths together, monitored playtime together like hawks, swapped out their blankets and hammocks so they could get used to each other's scents, etc) and it took almost a month for Spooky to warm up completely to Pumpkin.
Now we can barely tear them apart they're always together (or using Smaug as a body pillow). I'm glad things worked out for you!
Answering Spooky Asks Time!
First off we'd like to apologize for how late we are in getting to some of these asks. A few of these we didn't even see until just recently, but mostly it's because both Mod A & B have been very busy with work and school to answer asks. So we're doing it now! I'm sorry I would put this under a read more but Tumblr's new changes have messed with my buttons :/
1) Thank you very much!
2) Hello!
3) Aww, we're sorry you can't be with your babies, but I'm glad we can help satisfy your cute ferret needs with our pictures! :)
4) Oh wow! What are their names?
5) I'm glad we can be there for you ;) Have a great day!
6) Mind you, neither of us are ferret 'experts'. Our advice only comes from our own experiences and what we've learned along the way. That being said both Spooky and Pumpkin came to us rather well behaved. Spooky has never bitten anyone and Pumpkin even less so. We attribute this to their age (Spooky being 3+ years old and Pumpkin being adopted at almost a year old and well past her baby stage) and the fact that we are CONSTANTLY handling them. Smaug was the only one who seemed to nip now and then in the beginning, but it was never very hard.
The way we handled Smaug's 'gumming' (because that's what it was tbh) was instant scruffing and a loud and firm 'NO' to show that we do not like it when he bites us on purpose. Every time your ferret bites/nips at you especially at playtime on purpose be sure to immediately dish out a firm 'punishment' to show that behavior is not tolerated. The sooner you nip that in the bud the easier it'll be to handle them. We've had Smaug since January and I believe the last time he nipped one of us on 'purpose' was back in July. Again, this is just what has worked for us.
7) We definitely recommend getting a bonded pair! Ferrets are pack animals and do better in groups of 2-3 normally. If you can adopt a bonded pair or two at a time, ideally from the same litter, the better.
8) The best way to get rid of fleas are these:
- A flea comb
- Dawn dish soap (use only in SEVERE cases with ferrets because of their delicate skin/oils!)
- Wash all their bedding and dry them on HIGH HEAT frequently.
Fleas are terrible. Spooky had them once but being a white ferret they were easy to pick out with a flea comb and some dawn soap scrubbings. You have to be very on top of washing everything and keeping your ferret out of outside areas where fleas tend to gather (tall grass, bushes, water). Also I hear using a lemon:water mix and spraying it on bedding helps, but that may only be for dogs.
9) I use gifyo usually! Making gifs from my phone videos I use a gif app, but I deleted the one I used to use and I can't remember the name now :( Sorry!
10) Thank you! And we are so sorry to hear that :( Our love is with you and your babies <3
11) We do actually! And thank you!
12) Thank you so much! Just remember to do your research before buying a ferret and good luck in finding the perfect baby for you!
13) Our best advice to get your ferret to calm down would be to handle them CONSTANTLY. We are always pulling our babies out all the time, but the key is that when we pull them out we aren't always playing with them. They have a designated time for playing and the rest of the day they're being pulled out to be held or kissed. Usually we pick up one or two when they're sleeping and let them sleep on us while we sit on the computer or watch TV.
This gets them used to the idea that when they're being held it isn't necessarily 'play time' and they can relax around you. As for a harness I would recommend getting a smaller harness or tightening the one you have now. Spooky had that problem and so we had to find her a smaller harness somehow. Good luck!
14) We love our ferrets! Some of the pros are that ferrets make great apartment pets. They sleep most of the day and are active for a small portion (when we get home and can devote play time). They're also allergy-free for the most part. They're incredibly smart animals and extremely cute so that's always a plus.
Some cons would be that they do have a natural smell which can turn people off. You can't get rid of a ferret smell, at least not completely and depending on the ferret some do have behavior issues (which can be trained out if you're patient and willing to work with them). Honestly what we recommend is doing research, watching videos online, and deciding what's best for you.
As for who likes to cuddle more it's hard to say. Out of all three Smaug (the Hob) is the most cuddly with Spooky (Jill) as a close second. They're all pretty cuddly and extremely well behaved so really I think it just depends on the ferret and their personality.
Smaug's day at the park!
We took Smaug & Spooky to a local festival on Saturday and by the end of it they were super pooped out.
Picture was taken by princething.
We interupt your normally scheduled ferret cuteness with some more ferret cuteness (and some shameless self-promotion starring one of your mods)!
This is my video submission for the Hobbit Fan Contest guest starring Smaug! As Smaug. If you can please retweet me!
Also as a thank you for our followers we'll be hitting 1k soon so that means a giveaway is coming up! So please keep an eye out for that as well as some more pictures and videos of your favorite ferrets!
Spooky playing with a knitted shark while one mommy went into the bank.
Spooky and Smaug taking a very comfortable catnap together. Apologies for the slow updates, we'll be returning to our regularly scheduled ferret-dates soon!
Hey I just wanted to let you know that the tag "fuzzy butt" is mainly gay porn and I noticed your cute little ferret is tagged there sometime
Oh... Thank you for letting us know! We'll avoid that tag in the future now ahahah.
Finally it's warm enough to go outside and play!
(Apologies for the lacking activity, guys. We'll answer everyone's asks as soon as possible! Until then please enjoy this picture of Smaug playing with bubbles.)
Spooky's favorite place to ride with us in the car is on the dashboard.
Smaug got a brand new collar! It's gold (his favorite color) and he got his nails painted with gold pet-safe nail polish. He's looking very decked out right now.
Pumpkin constantly exceeds her cuteness levels. It's becoming a problem.
Meet the third and final addition to our little business, Smaug!
He's a big boy with big paws and a very big heart and so far both of his sisters love him very much.
