The Hallway

Sara woke up in a hospital room. She clutched the white sheet lying beneath her. She opened her eye lids and blinked rapidly. Removing her oxygen mask she gathered some strength and pushed the stretcher away. Somehow managing to stand up she reached for the door and pulled it open.

She stood in the hallway keeping pressure on her bruised arm. The hospital seemed hushed. She tried to remember what happened and how she ended up in a hospital.

She saw a lift and started moving faster.

'Is someone here? I need help.' she almost cried in pain.

She stopped for a second and stood against the wall. She breathed slowly and looked everywhere.

'Where is everyone!' she whispered.

Taking the support of the walls and a desk she tried to walk again. She reached in front of the lift. As soon as she pushed the button, the electricity went off.

And out of nowhere she heard a sound.'hmmm. Mmmmmm. Hmmmmm. Mmmmmm.'

She got startled and backed away from the elevator.'hmmm. Mmmmmmmm.' she heard a girl's voice.

She retraced her steps and reached in front of the reception catching  her breathe.Everything became darker.

'Hmmmmm. Mmmmmmm.hmmmm. mmmmm.'  she heard someone coming and hid behind the desk.

'Hmmmmm.mmmmmmmm.mmmm.hmmmm.' the voice grew louder and louder.

Her heart beat fastened and her shoulders twitched. The footsteps now, sounded like the person was not walking anymore. The person was running.

Her face turned pale. She waited for a while. When it grew silent, she peeked through a crack in the desk and carefully walked on her knees.

'Hmmmmm.mmmmmmm.hmmmmmm.mmmm.you can't run.' someone whispered from behind.

She flinched and turned in terror and saw a silhouette. Losing consciousness, she fell on the floor.

Hours later she woke up in the same room. She opened her eyes and stood up abruptly.

'Don't get up. You need rest.' She saw a nurse standing.

'Where am i ?'

'Don't worry. You have been in an accident. You've been unconscious for six hours straight. But you are fine now.' the nurse replied.

Her whole body got stiffened. It felt like she tried to move but couldn't.

'No. I was up. I was up and you weren't here. No one was. I was here all alone.'

'Your mom was here with you the whole time . You are still weak. Don't exert yourself.' The nurse said calmly.

'No. I was.' 'Hmmmm.mmmmm.mmmm.' Sara heard that sound again.

'Make her stop. Make that girl stop.' she covered her ears with her hands.

'Relax. Please.' The nurse called the doctors.

Everyone rushed inside and tried to control her. She keep beating her legs and hands against the bed.

'She's here. Can't you hear her?' she screamed.

'Calm down' the doctor immediately gave her an injection.

Sara stopped screaming and laid still. She felt sleepy and tired. 'Hallway. I was.'  she muttered. She wanted to keep her eyes open but her body gave and she slowly drifted to sleep.

She closed her eyes but could still hear that voice.

People

My grandfather Baxter, is living with us for the past two years. I call him Bax. He is suffering from Alzheimer's disease. He has always been a hale and hearty person but you know what old age does to a person.

 My mom thought living with family will help him recover. He had no where to go anyways. Bax spend all his day lying on his bed. 'Iam scared to move.' he always says.He keeps forgetting our names and refers us as 'People.' 

Neither his son nor his grand daughter, just 'people'. It's not the same always, sometimes he remembers us too.The doctor says, that he will forget the present time soon and will often get confused between his past and present. I always saw people with this disease on television but never met anyone who actually had it.

He mumbles throughout the day and night. It is really difficult to understand each and every word he says but i get the gist of it. The person he keeps calling the name of is my mother. Even if i don't get what's he saying, i respond to him with either a no, yes or hmm. I don't want him to feel lonely.

One day, i decided not to go to school and prepare for my exams instead. I took my laptop and notes into Bax's room. He was lying in the exact same position, I saw him in at night. Straight.'You should move sometimes.' I spoke trying to be as clear as I could.

 He didn't responded and stared at me like he does with everyone.'You can hear me.Don't try to act smart.' I said and used my fingers to get his attention.'I cannot move.' he moved his lips slowly. 'I don't know how iam going to survive in this condition.'

'I know the answer by eating your breakfast, lunch and dinner properly. You shouldn't be scared iam here with you.' I said putting my stuff beside him.

'You don't get it. It's tough.'

'Okay. Now I have a lot to study, try to get some sleep.'

I have a bad habit of watching T.v every time I study. I can't concentrate until and unless the sound of T.v reaches to my ear. At the time i was buried inside my books and laptop, I talked to him.

 Mostly with a yes or hmmm. He talked about things that didn't make any sense at all. He just stared at the walls and the ceiling.I finished two chapters in a hour and decided to rest by watching some more T.V.

'Tell that girl to move and make sure that boy gets something to eat.' Bax said.

Turning the volume down, i turned to him. He was now looking at the mirror, behind the cupboard.I could feel my heart thumping faster. 'What girl Bax?' I asked.

'That girl with flowers.'

'That's just a vase okay. No girl and definitely no boy's in here except you and me.'

'Oh.' he sounded disappointed. After five minutes, he uttered. 'Call that boy over here. I want to talk to him. He looks sad.'

'He left. He ate and umm... he left for his house.' I didn't wanted him to worry.

'Oh. Then it's fine.'

It's not the first time he said something like this. As the doctor said, mixing things up and blabbering is normal for him. He often forget the conversation we had like a minute ago.

'Hold that girl, she is going to hurt herself. Help me move, it's coming this way.' he yelled.'What is coming?''PEOPLE.' he said loud and clear.

I got startled with his sudden outburst. 'Look everybody's gone. We are fine.' I reassured him.

'Look at that girl standing over here. Tell her to get that for me.'

'You are scaring me now stop.' I almost yelled.

That night I told my mom about what Bax said.

'His time is near. I know that.' she said.

'Not again. You always say that like every night.' I said and went to my room.

2 months later...

Maybe I should've tried harder. Just a little. Just a bit more. Harder enough to make them believe me. 

Believe me, when I told them about the, PEOPLE. I thought and wrote this down in my diary.The doctors say that writing down what I feel will help me get better.

Bax wasn't just sick. He wasn't making things up. I know he wasn't lying because I saw those people too.

'It's day 40 and iam still stuck inside the asylum.' I wrote the title 'People' on the top of the page and sighed.

Shadow

It was raining very hard and Melissa was on her way to home. She boarded the metro. Usually she travels with Alice but she wasn't feeling well and left early.

She stood close to the exit gate and kept her gaze outside to divert her mind.The rush inside the metro become less. She could still hear the footsteps and the murmuring of the passengers. People were rushing in and out quickly. Her station was just ten minutes away now.

She felt a warm breeze when the metro stopped at a station. As soon as the doors got closed again she saw the reflection of a figure standing right behind her. Melissa turned to look but no one was there.

She turned back again where she saw the figure standing in the exact same position she saw a second ago.She couldn't figure it out who was it. Her eyes fell on the figure again. It was a lady dressed in a large black gown.The lady neither blinked nor moved.

 She stood just a few inches away from Melissa staring at her. Suddenly the eye balls of the lady disappeared.Melissa quickly closed her eyes expecting her to go away but she was still there. 

She had no idea whether anyone else can see her or not.She shut her eyes again and kept them close the whole time. She felt the earth tremble under her. She just wanted her to disappear.

Melissa got off the train without turning back and walked as fast as she could to leave her behind. She tried to convince herself that it was nothing more than a bad dream.The lady followed Melissa everywhere. Melissa could see her every time she looked in the mirror.The reflection never left her sight and became her shadow.

Moon Light

'Look at the moon. It's so beautiful out there.' Mona stared out of the window.

'Hmm.' Bob murmured.

Turning away from the window she said.'Let's go.'

'Where?'

'Out. Somewhere.'

'It's late.' Bob turned the page of his book.

Mona didn't replied which made Bob look up from his book. She stood in front of him holding the car keys.

'I hate you.' Bob rolled his eyes and took the keys from her.

They got inside the car and started driving. Letting the air in, Lisa rolled down the window.

'Where the hell are we going?' Bob asked looking in the rear view mirror.

Mona chuckled. 'Away.'

Not knowing where to go they drove for a while and reached near a under construction building. 'Okay, can we go home now?' Bob asked hitting the breaks.

'Let's go in.'

'What? No. It doesn't looks good.' Bob said fiercely.

'Let's go inside the building. It will be fun.'

Parking the car both Bob and Mona walked swiftly and surveyed the area.

'Nobody's here.' Mona ducked to get inside the building.

Bob stared at the dirty walls. There were black colour foot and hand prints on the walls. He followed the trail of prints and found that the prints were only in the middle of every wall and nowhere else.'This place is weird.'

Mona stopped glancing and said.'Says the man who sleeps standing up.'

'That was just one time.' he grinned.

'Let's go up.'

They used the stairs and found  a number of closed rooms. All they could see were doors with deadbolt locks on them.

'Open entrance and locked doors. Mona sighed.

'You were expecting something else?' he asked.

'Maybe a few open doors.' she smirked. 'So that we can go inside the rooms and do some stuff.'

'Really! What kind of stuff are we talking about here?' he asked raising his eyebrow.

'You know this and that in a place like this. she smiled.' Spooky and romantic at the same time.'

Checking the locks on doors, Bob went a little further. Almost giving up, he tried to pull the lock of a door one last time. He pulled the handle with his one hand and pushed the door with other. The door swung open.'Your wish might come true.'

Mona looked where Bob was standing and said. 'It's your lucky day.'

She put her foot forward while Bob peeked inside. 'It is huge. Just like you imagined. We are going to have so much fun.'

'Someone seems excited.' she uttered.

As Bob heard Mona's approaching footsteps he went inside. He was about to go near the window when suddenly he heard a loud bang. He looked back. The door behind him got shut.

'Shit.' Bob tried to move the handle. He banged the door but nothing worked.

'Mona is that you?' Bob took a step backwards and bumped into something. He pulled a lighter from his pocket and turned it on. A scratching noise came from behind. He extended his left arm and turned a little. Bob saw something crawling on the wall by the corner of his eye.

Not daring to look back again, he shut his eyes and panted. The noise of a chair being dragged came from his side. Bob saw the figure crawling on the ceiling, looking down at him. Terrified, he hurried towards the door and kicked it.

'Mona, you there? Open the damn door. Iam stuck.' He buried his face in his hands. A grunt noise reached his ears. Releasing himself from the position, he looked up and watched the dark figure's glowing red eyes. The figure leapt forward and jumped on his chest. The lighter fell from his hand and there was darkness once again.

Two days later Mona was found unconscious near her car. Bob's body was found brutally gutted and sucked out of blood a month later in the very same room. The moon beam fell inside the room making Bob's body and blood glow in the dark.

Doorbell

I walked straight home from the gym and crashed on my couch. A long day, I thought. Carrying some food and my phone I walked slowly and entered my bed room.

Throwing the stuff on my bed, I turned the T.V on and pulled my blanket up. I changed the channels with my sleepy eyes. I wanted to sleep but  couldn't because my father wasn't home yet and he forgot the keys again.

I didn't realized I was asleep until i woke up by the sound of the door bell. Maybe it was a dream. It happens with me all the time where I can't differentiate whether it was just a dream or it really did happened.

It happens with everyone, I guess.

I listened carefully. Nothing but dead silence. After some time I heard the bell ringing in my ears again. This time I got up and went to the door. Opening the door, i peeked outside but no one was there.

God, my mind is playing tricks on me. Iam crazy.

I went back and lost the track of time and slept wonderfully for I don't know how long. I was changing positions in my bed when i saw my father asleep on his bed beside mine.

I saw his back facing me from the corner of my eye. My muscles got tensed up and my legs started shaking on their own. I turned the very second and saw him now in a sitting position like he was  about to stand up.

I stared at him straining my eyes. All I could see was his back. I pulled the curtain to my right letting the moonlight in. Now I was able to see my room clearly. No one was there. The blanket was spread across the bed just like he always did.

My phone buzzed a second later. I rushed to the corner of my bed and picked up my phone. Two missed calls and a text from my father.

Iam going to be working late. I 'll be home in the morning. You can sleep now. - Dad.

After reading the text, I kept my phone aside and went back to sleep.

'Have you heard the door bell yet?' Sometimes things we cannot explain happens with us. This has really happened with my friend. This is his story. What's yours?

DARK

DEAD

It was a pleasant Friday evening. Max was going out of town for a couple of days to visit his aunt Era. He took the old route he was familiar with.

Max haven't been at his aunt's since five years. But when his aunt called him two days back saying she was sick, she forced him to come visit her.

His aunt has been the only family to him since Max lost his parents in a car accident and when he got the job in the city, he wasted no more time and left.

At first Max used to regularly call her but later he hardly ever get the time to think about his aunt.

On reaching he found the front door of the house open.''Hey! aunt Era how are you feeling now?'' he said as soon as he saw his aunt sitting on the couch.

She immediately got up and hugged him."Iam fine. Absolutely fine now that iam seeing you.''

"You sounded so low when you called. I was so worried."Max frowned.

"Oh, dear. No need to be worried. Nothing can happen to me now. "

"I think i should go and meet Mr. Franklin. I'll be back in a minute."

"No, dear. He is not here. He went to visit his grandson Matt. He is sick. He'll be back in a day or two."

"Oh!" Max exclaimed.

"Now let's get some food in your system. You must be very hungry."

Aunt Era and Max talked after dinner. They didn't realize that they were up till midnight. She gave Max his favourite hot chocolate that he used to like as a kid.

Max unpacked his stuff and quickly changed into his night clothes and fell asleep. He was in a deep sleep when suddenly he heard a loud noise. He thought he was dreaming until he felt a touch on his forehead. It was someone's hand.

He woke up in fear and started looking everywhere. It was all quite and okay until his eyes caught something off guard. The old rocking chair lying in front of him was moving on its own.

When he moved a bit further, he saw a shadow of someone. He quickly switched on the lights but the chair was now completely still. Drenching in sweat, he panicked and called his aunt but she didn't responded. He called her again."What's the matter dear? Are you fine?" he heard a voice coming from the door. It was his aunt.

"I saw someone. Someone was right here. Was it you sitting on that chair?" Max trembled with fear.

"No. I was in my room dear." she said."I swear. I saw someone." he retorted.

"Max, you are tired. It was nothing. You need some rest. Get some sleep. If you need something just call me. "aunt Era kissed his forehead and left.

Max was sure he saw someone. He kept on thinking about the incident the whole night. No matter how hard he tried to convince himself, he couldn't get that vision out of his mind.The sun was up and so was he. Max didn't sleep well. 

He went to aunt Era's room but she wasn't there. He hurried downstairs but she wasn't there either.On hearing the horn of a car from outside he headed towards the front door.It was Mr. Franklin. He was unloading his luggage from the back of his car's trunk.

Max with a smile on his face walked towards him."Mr. Franklin, it's so nice to see you. You look so fit’’.

 "Max. My boy! You look so big now. It's so good to see you."Mr. Franklin chuckled.

"Is Matt fine now ?"Max asked but Mr. Franklin interrupted him in between."I thought you didn't get my messages."

"Messages. What messages?"Max asked.

"About your aunt." Mr. Franklin continued."How do you know about Matt ?"

"Oh, yeah about that. Aunt Era called me two days back. So, here iam."Mr. Franklin without uttering a single word stared Max with his eyes wide open.

"Two days back? Max she died a week ago. I tried to contact. I was coming to get you but Matt got sick." he muttered.

" I.. " Max was shocked. He didn't know how to react, what to say.Mr. Franklin continued. "And by the way how did you get in? The key's with me. "

SURPRISE

Nadia and Macy decided to go to a Halloween party. The clock strike 9 and Nadia was already outside Macy's house.

She used the spare key and got herself in. She tried to switch on the lights but there was no electricity.

"Mace!!" Her voice echoed in the house.

Not able to see anything, she took her phone out and turned the flashlight on.

"Macy! I know you want to scare me and all but we are getting late for the party." she said.

Making sure not to bump into anything she took the support of the wall and walked up the stairs looking down on her way.

"Mace. That's it now. Come out I don't have time for your silly tricks."

She walked into Macy's room but there was no trace of her. It was quiet around when she got startled on hearing a squealing noise coming from inside Macy's closet.

She turned and looked at the door of the closet which hung open.

"Very funny Macey. Try harder next time. I know you are in there. Come out." She said loudly.

She took a step forward." You are busted. Iam coming and then you and I are gonna get the hell out of here."

The sound of the hangers bumping into each other came from inside.

"It's of no use now. Come out." She heard the door closing.

She reached in front of the closet and can hear someone breathing heavily clearly.

"Some air might do some good to you, Mace." She laughed.

She stretched her arms forward to open the door but it was held by someone from inside tightly.

"Wow someone is taking their gym classes seriously."

Suddenly her phone buzzed in her hands. She looked into her phone, it was an incoming call from Macy.

She backed away and turned from the closet and froze. The phone kept buzzing and with her shaky hands she answered the call turning the phone on speaker."Nadia where are you? I saw your car outside. Are you up?"  Said Macy from the other side.

"Is there someone else.." Her voice stuttered." In.. In your house beside you?"

"Nadia? Where are you? It's just me."

She heard a murmuring behind her. Nadia raised her head up trying to look what's behind her in the mirror.

She saw a giant clown dressed in red clothes with a big red nose and hair looking at her grinning.

"SURPRISE!! It's not Macy. Some air might do some good to you too; Nadia." The clown whispered in her ears.

Terrified, she tried to run  as the clown leapt forward and took her inside.

Later that night, the police found Nadia's phone lying on the porch of Macy's house and her body ripped into pieces inside her closet.

COLD

Forcing my body to shake, the cold wind passes by. 

I rub my hands and try to stand still.

This time the wind comes with even more coldness, silencing everything around me.

I walk slowly. I try to walk quickly. Putting all the force I have in my body, I move my legs forward.

Pretending to be okay, I smile a little. If anyone sees me, I won't look brittle.

Hands in my pocket and a hood over my skull. I walk faster and everything still looks dull.

I raise my head and see two people coming in my direction.

Not knowing what to do, I put my head down and walk with stealth. They do not have to know with what i've dealt.

As they come closer and closer, I flinch. Trying to remove the blood stains I rub my face. For they will ask questions just in case.

They are just inches away from me now. What shall I do? If they come any closer, they will know iam different.

They look in my direction and they are finally here. They cannot know my story, it will not be fair.

Now that I can see them clearly,  I know that they are laughing about something just like I used to laugh.

Here they come, stand in front of me. They passes through me as I stand still. They are gone now to their own path. They must have felt me but didn't see anything.

The cold wind passes by again and this time, I won't stop.

I keep on walking, finding my own destination. One thing I know, I do not feel cold anymore.

“Why did you do this to me?”

“I loved you. Look what you have done to me?”

“I won’t let you go Tom.”

“How could you do this to me?”

“You never loved me?”

“You will regret this.”

“I won’t leave you.”

“You have to live with me. No matter what.”

“You cannot leave me just like that.”

“I won’t let you go.”

“You will die in vain.”

“And then we will be together forever.”

Tom Hilson’s behavior started to change when his wife Anna died in a car crash. He locked himself in his room. He stopped eating and talking. His neighbors use to hear his loud screams and cries at night.

His family tried to help him recover from his loss but he refused. He locked the doors and covered all the windows of his house to prevent even a single ray of light from entering inside.

Whenever he saw light, he screamed and ran the other way off ; as if the light was hurting him. He said he could see his dead wife in the light. Tom used to sit in the corner with his face buried in his hands.

One day he attempted suicide his family thought that it was best for him to get some medical help. He was sent to a mental asylum, where he spend almost a year without light.

When he was put in a room, he refused go in until and unless no light comes inside. He never spoke a thing to anyone. Despite of the doctors efforts, he did not responded to any treatment.

He chanted the word ‘forever’ all day and night and on the day of Anna’s first death anniversary he was found dead in his room.

With the walls filled with the messages left by him where he confessed on killing Anna. That her death was no accident and he was the one who killed her. The blood slowly dripped from the walls and splashed all across his dead body. She won’t leave me alone. I cannot take it anymore.

The day Tom killed Anna, was the day, they got married.

The day, the two of them vowed and promised each other to never let go. The day he promised that he will always love her and the day she promised that she will never leave him and they will be together FOREVER.
