In the India- Australia Border-Gavaskar test series that concluded today we saw some excellent performances from the batters of both sides that played a vital role in deciding the matches. Both Steve Smith and Virat Kolhli will have special memory of the series as both of them were elevated by their country to lead the team and scored highest runs for respective countries. 1. Steve Smith
Steve Smith was leading runs scorer in this test series. He was made the captain of the test side from the second test match onwards. In the first test he scored 162 and 52. He continued his form in the next three test matches. In the second test he scored 133 and 28. In Melbourne he smashed 192 and 14. In the final test match he scored 117 and 71. In his 8 innings the young batsmen scored 769 runs in 8 innings. The Indian bowlers did not have any armor in tier bowling to trouble the batsmen.
2. Virat Kohli
After a disappointing test series in England last year, Virat Kohli was at his best in the 8 innings that he played in Australia. In the first test match at Adel die he was the standing captain of the team and scored centuries in both innings which had almost taken India closer to win the match. In the second test he failed in both innings. In the first innings of the third test match he scored a century at Melbourne, second innings he scored 46. Following MS Dhoni Captain’s retirement form Test cricket he was made the captain of the fourth test match, where he scored (147) another century. At the end of the series he scored 692 runs. This shows that he is backbone of the Indian middle order at present. He played some great strokes of the fast bowler and also of the spinners. His weakness was fishing outside off stump balls
3. Murali Vijay
Murali Vijay has been the main pillar of Indian batting in this test series. As an opener he has played exceptionally well. He played patient innings in this series. In the 8 innings he scored 482 runs. In first test he scored 50 and 99. In the first innings of second Test he scored 144 and 27 which provided a solid foundation. In the third test match scored 68 and 11. In the fourth innings he scored 0 and 80. He left the new ball well and scored runs with ease.
4. David Warner
David Warner played a crucial role in winning the Australia the test series. He played in a positive manner and just took the attack into the Indian bowlers. In the first test match he began with a quick fire 145 and followed up with 102 in the second innings. In the second and third test matches he almost failed (Brisbane- scored 29 and 6 and in Melbourne 0 and 40). In the last test match he again scored 101 and 4. With a total of 427 runs he becomes the fourth batsmen.
5. Chris Rogers
Chris Rogers a seasoned opening batsman gave Australia a good start in last three matches with David Warner. In the first test match he scored 9 and 21. From the second test onwards he scored 7 fifties in a row. In the second test match he scored 55 and 55. In Melbourne he scored 57 and 69. In the test match at Sydney he played a crucial knock of 95 and 56. He was playing his last match in Australia. In the fourth test match he and Warner gave a perfect start of scoring 200 runs partnership for the first wicket. He not only provided the stability at the top but also allowed the batsmen coming after him an opportunity to score without any pressure. He finished fifth in the series with 417 runs.
