Been binging Frieren finally (me and my father are dividing and conquering checking out new animes, we started JJK together but it didn't catch us, he's watching Attack on Titan, and I went for Frieren) so here's a compilation post of my opinions from Ep 1-27. SPOILERS UNDER THE CUT
-> Cried on Episode 1. I knew a long time ago that Frieren deaths with mortality and death but I didn't want to understand it as painfully as I did. Himmel watching the stars + Frieren crying at his grave tore my heart out.
-> Also probably very unwell about this series solely because it follows fantasy adventuring parties and I have a kinda unhealthy attachment to my own dnd/pathfinder stories and parties. So when the journey ends or characters die I get like second-hand grief. The aftermath of the adventure, everyone parting ways, made me queasy.
-> Frieren is cool, Fern is cool, Stark is cool. I like Eisen a lot but we didn't see much of him.
-> Didn't realize Stark has a big old forehead Scar until the episode where he pretends to be some guy's son. Like, I thought it was a little line I couldn't see. Then they pulled his hair back and I was like ???? Because it looked like shading before that lmao
-> Can't decide if I'm charmed or mad that Fern takes on the 'parental' role for the party. Like, it's good that it's not Frieren and ig she did care for Heiter in his old age but... just feels a little odd at times. Same with her interactions with Stark. On occassion I get it (only child vs younger brother w/ a complex) but it seems so odd to me every other time. Especially around the mage exam.
-> The entire fight against Aura and her other lackies? I had it spoiled for me but it was still beautiful. Stark just tanking hits. Fern proving she was strong enough to defeat that guy all on her own. Frieren 'Aura, Kill Yourself' no last name over here too? Jfc.
-> On the note of the previous one, Aura cutting her own head off had great suspense, but what gave me the worst chills was how the sword sliced through her hair and it chunked off. Other animations would've moved the hair aside or slipped the sword beneath it but the movement has no regard for ALL of her hair and simply tears through it like paper. Literal chills.
-> Every single Himmel flashback has me losing my mind. Part of me is going 'AroAce queen Frieren???' And the other half is 'FRIEREN YOU FUMBLED SO HARD'. I appreciate that elves have no romantic/reproductive instincts, it's a cool concept for a quiet extinction to happen to an intelligent race (They could choose to locate and reproduce w/ one another out of a logical duty or smth but they all collectively Saud 'fuck that' and I love it). But also Frieren you could have had a beautiful and kind and down-bad husband for the rest of his life. Like damn girl, I get why you wanna see his ghost!!!
-> Seine (?) Is cool. The priest guy. Probably the closest to my favorite archetype but not close enough.
-> whatever Ubel has going on, I need her. To like. Study her.
-> Whatever Ubel and Land have going on, I need them both in an enclosure like bugs. She's so funny. She wants to understand that cookie so bad.
-> Guy from the north is pretty cool. I like that his childhood crush is PROBABLY that girl he's currently traveling with, Ehre or whatever.
-> LESBIANS???? (To be clear, water girl and ice girl.) I saw them wrestling and went ??? And then they kept talking and I knew. And then the water one getting down on one knee and treating ice girl like her princess??? Huh??? Oh. And of course their magic compliments one another despite their bickering. Ofc they're a well-oiled team. Jfc I need good things for them.
-> General note: Interesting that Frieren has begun to pray more often at meals over the course of the series. Sure hope that doesn't mean she believes in the goddess. Sure hope her master asking her to go the farthest north isn't a metaphorical heaven where she meets old friends in the new ones she's made and revisited all of them through her memories and experiences. Sure hope Flamme wasn't just setting a trap to show her that the dead are gone but you should always cherish your time with those who love you enough to literally follow you to the end if the earth. Sure hope it's not that she never had a chance to talk to Himmel again no matter what! 😔

-> funny that Frieren has her old party back, but a new generation. Fern is the mage, Stark is the warrior, Seine is the priest, abd Frieren is the party leader now. She didn't know at first but she realizes it more every single day.
-> Sorry, sorry,that barrier breaking was beautiful in the mage trials.
-> I'm never addressing the mimic bit
-> The stark/eisen hand trembles are my favorite part of the whole show I think. Stark doesn't do it as often but I love it.
I'm sure there's more but I can't think of it lol.
