im a subspace main/boom side but also starting to learn other characters, and i usually play with collide ( @the-distortionworld ) who mains vine/rocket side (whilst also learning bio and planning on learning ban sometime!!) and my sibling lime (who im not tagging rn because they arent very active on tumblr and idk if theyd want me putting their blog on blast) who mains scythe/medkit?? side?? i think?? tbh they mostly just play scythe. its primarily scythe. they are learning medkit though

block tales rewrite is so fucking terrible.

chapter 1 -- mostly unchanged. a few critical things about noobador is changed. a character is added(*). nice chapter if you like cruel king i guess. but also no it's not, they changed a left handed character into a right handed one. sorry cruel king fans even you cannot escape this horrible rewrite.

chapter 2 -- the misogyny begins

so. griefer is just a problem child inherently. he was always like this, the venomshank wasn't corrupting him, he was just always a problem kid. got exiled because of starting a fire. griefer is the fandom darling and i don't want to focus on how they fucked up his writing because deconstructing the whole family situation needs its own paragraph.

kyoko has a complete shift in personality. from a brave, adventurous, caring, and compassionate person, to someone who constantly relies on others and is cowardly. she lives in turito now, btw. you do not see her in chapter 3 or chapter 4. congratulations if you got that cookie from her that was apparently a rare item. (reminder that her and her sister, calypso, are the most prominent examples of female characters within this game. also they're both black.)

so they decide to add more lore to griefer's and the mayor's relationship....... by adding in griefer's mother (SURPRISE! DEAD WIFE TROPE!). she did not exist as a character at all prior, it was pretty much implied that she wasn't around before in the og game, given only griefer's dad, the mayor, was in the picture. she solely exists to make the mayor mourn her, to further the anger that griefer has for his father, and to rend their relationship apart when she literally did not even need to exist for that rift to be there.

chapter 3 -- saying the quiet parts out loud

this one is more of a writing nitpick compared to a Misogyny Problem but i feel like mentioning these things shows how the plot has been sanded down beyond recognition. i also feel like this is better off as its own post, so if i ever get around to it, i'm gonna link that here or in a reblog or something. tl;dr, they're taking a lot of the metaphorical concepts out from the game, and taking the ability to interpret text away from the player, for example, after killing your emotions, you directly get told by a character that you "shouldn't suppress them". to simply explain this just is a matter of writing and how metaphors convey more weight when you show it

chapter 4 -- misogyny strikes back (jesus christ i'm not even a quarter into the chapter.)

i explain it more in a thread with pandemonium, but the tl;dr of it is that they made calypso, a black woman, more aggressive, but also more.. serving, to trotter, and trotter directly says the connection is parental when previously it was up to interpretation (because the point was that it *didn't matter* what their connection was, see chapter 3 and saying quiet things out loud). reduces the nuanced connection calypso had with trotter down to "he saved my life he sees me as a kid" even if she may not know this, this is genuinely just. how it is when you state the basic facts this chapter brings out. i do genuinely fucking wish i was making this up.

my incomplete notes for the curious!

griefer's mother. ohhhh griefers mother. she was not in demo 4, she was not mentioned, she was not present. she now exists ☝ solely to make griefer and the mayor "more compelling". like explicitly she is only included in the chapter solely so mayor thaniyel can go boohoo my wife is dead and my son hates me because im a bad husband and father boohoo

oh and of course theres kyoko! a wonderful black woman who was canonly an adventurer - just like her family - being brave and compassionate. she was a recurring side character introduced in the second chapter, who had her own side plot of her going on her own adventures, trying to tackle her mental health and find her sister who has been missing. while she wasnt a main character by any means, she very much was important. the rewrite. checks notes. completely flattened her character, took away her bravery to make her just a scared girl, and completely removed all of her relevance to the plot! she can now Exclusively be found in chapter two, and all of her recurring appearances are no longer in the game! (to my knowledge, this is supposedly because kyoko (and her sister calypso) were explicitly the characters of the original writer, and they wanted to reduce the relevance because of that. however comma. it reeeeally isnt a good look just flattening her and removing her relevance the way they did. yk?)

speaking of. calypso. ohhh calypso. i havent completed the rewritten chapter 4 but from what i have seen it is Not looking good for the state shes in. distortion can elaborate on her more because i knowww that she is Very important to glitch. distortion can probably go more in detail in general im not very good at words but Oh My God.

#also they made cruel king right handed when he used to be left #which like. thats not As important by comparison but makes me sad
