@square-hole-resident
your fault
our take on the whitepine finale being so massively open-ended and leaving a lot of questions as to the status of everyone else is that this is not only an intentional move on ivory's part, but also one that is very kindly designed as both a continuation of the Lack Of Closure themes the series plays with as well as being a hands-off way of fostering an environment in which fandom feels able to thrive and play with canon for a very long time to come. it is crafted to leave folks wondering in such a way as to make them think, to let people dwell on it, and for there to be a lot of room for people to eventually come up with their own interpretations and ideas about it without any one of them being correct.
we don't know who else lived or who died. we don't know what happened with the Hemlocke business. we don't know what was up with various other plot elements. we don't know, but why don't you come out and tell a story about what you think could have happened? there's plenty of room on the picnic blanket and the fields are beautiful this time of year.
guh
holy fuck
Don't forget to check the moon forecast before heading out!
The truth of what Avid did to so many people has reminded me of something that I think is worth being mindful of with regards to communities.
When a creator prides themselves on creating a safe space, they also create an easy place to manipulate.
No, not everyone who says they want their communities to be a safe and welcoming place is planning on manipulating you. No, it's not your fault that you sought out a place to try and relax and feel comfortable. However, it is very, very easy to turn "safe spaces" dangerous.
The idea of a place being safe relies on morality. Weaponizing, or simply utilizing, the concept of morality makes it easy to control vulnerable people. You wouldn't want to make this place toxic, right? Disagreements are harmful, distressing things and this is a Safe Space so please keep it down. Why would you disagree with me, anyway? I'm a Good Person with Good Morals, and if you disagree on something that makes you a Bad Person who should reconsider this. If you question something "good" then that's clearly because you support the opposite thing, which is "bad" and problematic. Hey, that one community member follows someone who has a second, private account to post art I don't like, so we should harass them--sorry, bring it to their attention so that they unfollow them and block them because they made me uncomfortable, which is morally bad. You don't understand the problem? You must also be a bad person. The fact that you had to ask means you secretly agree with them.
And so on and so on.
It's very easy to guilt-trip your fans into doing something, whether that's unsubscribing from another creator or mass-harassing a fellow fan.
There's nothing wrong with wanting a safe community to exist in. There's nothing wrong with blocking someone for literally any reason. And there is nothing about the above behavior that is inherent to "safe spaces" over other communities, because any group of people can do this. I'm only highlighting the ones who proclaim themselves as safe because they're establishing a precedent and claiming it as inherent to them, which makes it easier to leverage that identity.
Note: this is not about cutting discriminatory people out. This is not about banning racist chatters or transphobic twitter users or anything like that. When I say "disagreements" I don't mean threats to one's life.
This is about the little things, nuances that seem harmless but can build up into something more controlling.
Manipulation isn't about telling you "you should believe this." Manipulation is about telling you what already sounds right to you so that it can then branch off of that to make additional suggestions more palatable.
this part is one that i'm really going to hate. in the wake of all that happened yesterday, i need to talk about finances. i know this is long, but i urge you to read through, because i could really use some tangible, real help right now.
as many of you know, the work we did for Avid was substantial. the music we made with him has been our lifeblood for the past several months as we have been reeling from the onset of a severe, life changing disability diagnosis that prevents us from working a typical job. music, video editing, streaming, and making our own videos are about all we can do. our disabling dissociative amnesia prevents the timely and reasonable learning of new skills. while we have been working constantly with a dissociative specialist to inch towards remedying this, we do not expect that we will be equipped to work in any other capacity any time soon.
the royalties we received from the music we made together with Avid were roughly 80-90% of our income on any given month for the calendar year so far, and they have helped us stay afloat while we have been trying to go through the rigorous and ill-equipped disability system.
putting all your eggs in one basket is never a good idea regardless, and the fears i had building for the past couple of months only further emphasized this. as such, i have been trying to diversify by engaging with streaming, trying to get my name out there for collaborative work in other SMPs, and reaching out to my creator friends for editing work. i really can't thank two people in particular enough - LeonSBU and NatureOfGaming - for providing me work as they have been able to afford and especially in Leon's case, getting my name out there for other SMPs.
unfortunately, the true extent of Avid's manipulations and lies were more than i could ever have imagined. the fact that my entire understanding of his intentions has been flipped in a matter of no more than 3 days feels like being hit by a truck. for full transparency, i am no longer in contact with Avid, but i did inform them that i was leaving the fate of our music in their hands. in the final messages he sent to me before i cut contact, he told me that he "would never cut [me] off financially". he told me he would never do a lot of things, so forgive me if i have trouble trusting this. regardless, the dropoff in listenership after what has been revealed will be substantial and immediate.
in the best case-scenario, i have a month or two left before royalties catch up to this dropoff, and will see consistent income for that time still. in the worst, i will no longer be able to afford my rent by the end of the month if he does remove the music and disable my royalty splits.
what i need is two things: i need immediate funds to fall back on in case things go poorly, and i need longevity. i have been so lucky to be surrounded by so many truly astounding and generous creators who have been willing to put my name out there for work. i am hoping this comes to fruition. i am already hearing from some about potential editing opportunities which is amazing. but things are still up in the air, and i need to be quick and smart. this is why i am doing something that my fans know i hate. i'm asking for help.
as i see it, there are three pillars to this. all the highlighted text below links directly:
immediate aid - if you have the funds to spare, buying our music on Bandcamp and donating to our Ko-Fi are methods of which we see the funds in a matter of days, if not instantly. this will help us build an emergency fund if worse comes to worse.
supporting our work - by spreading the word about our streaming on Twitch and listening to our music on streaming services such as Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube (and any other platform our music is on), you provide a significant source of consistent income that we can rely on month-to-month.
word of mouth - talking about what we do and why you enjoy it is a surprisingly big help, because it helps us find connections for potential growth opportunities and commission work. additionally, letting people know we have a Discord and are the ones responsible for Avid's music in the first place not only helps us, but it helps the people who loved Avid's music know there is more out there from the person who made his songs possible.
i'm gonna level with you all. i fucking hate writing this. i feel like a beggar. i feel humiliated. these past three days of piecing things together have been some of the worst of my life, and having to once again ask for help is the cherry on top. since i learned about the truth three days ago, this has been constantly looming over me. everything else has been made crystal clear to me, so i at least know without a shadow of a doubt what happened. but with this? i'm terrified. Avid knew my situation, my disability, my reliance on our work together. he has left me in a truly impossible situation. i am taking it as an opportunity to double down on the work i was already doing and try to turn it into a positive. i hope that you all are gracious enough to help me make that a reality. it would really mean the world right now.
for some positivity in all of this, here's a sneak peak of my next song. i'm so ready to move forwards and i'm trying to let this empower me to make some awesome fucking art. thank you to everyone who read to the end. hope to see you all soon <3

As a reminder, most members of SBK & co are making these their final statements on the matter and will not be speaking of the situation or Avid and Marm going forward. Please do not bring up the situation to them again after today. Let everybody move on and heal.
Please listen to Legundo’s stream if you can stomach the content warnings of what he discussed. Genuinely what he’s shared has made me sick to know that such horrible actors have been able to manipulate so many people under the guise of a safe place. Power to the victims and please support the creators who are going to need financial help in the wake of everything. Always believe victims and never stoop as low as to weaponize their pain and experiences as a gotcha for hate and cruelty. And never feel guilty if you also fell for the act they put on cause it’s not your fault for having wanted to trust a person who claimed to advocate for safe spaces.

for the fans
If you are/were a fan of Avid or Marm, whether you created fan content about them or not, I would appreciate if you read this.
I am not here to talk directly about what they did, frankly, I could read every statement and still not know everything as I was never in that fanbase. (Though I will say that I have read all the statements)
I am here to talk to the fans of them. People who unintentionally put them on a pedestal, people who created things about them, people who like the characters they played, and the people that heard over and over 'don't idolize creators' but did it anyway on accident and are now devastated.
I did it too, not with Avid and Marm, sure, but with other creators who also turned out to be awful, most nobly, for me it was Wilbur Soot.
I know what Avid and Marm did is not easily comparable to what Wilbur did, not by scale and platform size at least, but the situation the fanbase is (and most likely will be in) the same.
Its gonna suck, especially for people who put so much effort and love into creating things about them, but you can still work on it if you feel comfortable.
The mcyt fanbase (and yt fanbases in general) toe the line between rpf and character fiction a lot. We do our best to separate creator and character all the time, this is no different.
The best strategy I have found over the years is to Oc-ify them. Those characters were given up by the creators as soon as they left. You can keep your VSMP-avid. He's yours now. Be free.
If they come back to release a statement, to apologize, take what they say into account, sure, but also take into account what their friends and victims said. Don't let what you saw in a video or on a stream make you think you know them. Don't be like Wilbur stans.
And one last thing. NEVER harass them. I'm serious. I don't care what they did. If you send hate, harass them, threaten them, anything. They will use it to convince one more person they are the victim. They will show the mountain of threats and harassment and go "See? This is what they really wanted" and some people will believe them.
Thank you for listening, and remember, if it isn't giving them money or defending their abuse, its free reign. Go create, go make art and write fanfiction. Take a break and come back stronger.
ok so I've taken some time to read the statements from the SBK people and others affected by the actions of AvidMC. (this user has put together a series of screenshots if people want context, which I appreciate as I don't have twitter)
It's absolutely awful what these people have been put through.
I'm not sure what to do about my fics going forward. Writing Consequences of Years has actually been an almost life changing experience for me. What started as an outlet to process my first personal experience with grief and loss, spiralled out into something beautiful and meaningful because of all the wonderful people I have been able to connect with through it. People have said such deeply kind things about this story, and it's grown into something bigger than I ever imagined it could.
I have always stood behind the idea of death of the author - art is for those who consume it, and what you take from something is just as (if not more) important than the author's intentions.
But obviously there has to be nuance there when real life people are being harmed.
My fics will be staying up, but I need some time to think about what I'm going to do going forward. I don't want to abandon Complex Journey, I have some really wonderful things planned and I'm really enjoying the story, but there's now such a bitter taste in my mouth. There's not an easy answer.
I won't let one person's horrific actions ruin the incredible story that was VSMP. You can't take the character of v!Avid out of the story without lessening it, but it's not fair to the hard work of all of the other creators that went into the series to write the whole thing off because of them. So I will still gladly be a VSMP fan. This community has been so kind and loving and creative and it means the world to me.
I am glad that the victims are able to be safe and supported enough to share their stories. My heart breaks for them all, and I hope that some peace can be found now. It is touching to see the community rallying together and lifting each other up in such a difficult time.
To sum up my thoughts:
I don't know what I'm going to do about Consequences of Years at this stage, but I won't be removing it. If I make a solid decision on it, I will make another post.
For any future VSMP fics, I cannot make v!Avid a main character - for my own mental health and out of respect of those harmed by the creator. As I said, there's no way to remove v!Avid from the story of vsmp, but the camera can be shifted, and we can focus on the other characters.
(and i don't want to get too personal on here, but I have sadly seen the effects of similar tactics of manipulation in my own life. I had started to get some yucky feelings from AvidMC after the whole breakdown about the shipping stuff, and had stepped away from his content for my own mental health then. I am devastated to see that those feelings were justified. I wanted to be wrong.)
Look after yourselves and each other, everyone. The greatest enemy to manipulators and abusers is community and communication. Listen to the victims. Respect each other. Understand that grief is hard and confusing and scary, and a lot of these people are grieving the loss of a genuine friendship that was built on lies, so give them the space to do that.
Do something kind for yourself today <3
Also about the avid and marm situation, i know its tough rn but remember that we as a community, in vsmp, skyblock, the flight etc, did nothing wrong by loving their work, their characters, their stories.
No matter how many "i told you sos" youll see on twitter or anywhere else, please dont feel like you should've known better when the whole point of the shitstorm is that people got manipulated, intentionally. Youll see the sentiment of "dont idolise content creators" repeated, and it seems so obvious from the get go, but I know it often only hits once something of this severity happens in relation to a creator you love.
It hurts and it sucks and however you decide to react to it is your business and your business alone. Keep creating, keep loving, or take a break, focus on something else entirely, whatever you do, there is no correct or right way to deal with putting so much effort and care into stories of people who hurt others, not when theyre already off the cc sphere anyway.
I know i dont need to give my two cents on this, that it has all been said before, but just yknow. Support circle and a little empathy to my fellow mcyt fan compatriots bc yall are some of the most talented, passionate and creative people ive seen and its so easy to get lost in further discoursauce and let it get to you
I lied. Put your clothes back on. We're watching legs and owens povs of vampires smp and you're writing an essay on nature vs nurture and what society makes people.
My style keeps shifting for these little guys…
Anyways, take your anxious detective :)
unnerving lil freak/pos
I have discovered that I love drawing V!avid being off-putting :]
I forgot if your requests are only Life series + hermitcraft but i will humbly beg for some v!legundo I miss the old man
Digging through some requests and I absolutely agree, I also dearly miss the old man. Vampires 2 when?/J (decided on throwing Owen in there hope that’s ok-)
