Artist of The Week: SquaricĀ (July 27, 2015)
haustraksThis week we look at an enigma of an artist, the elusive and incredibly friendly Squaric. We are a lucky bunch, as he agreed to answer a few of our questions, though carefully guarding his identity under lock and key. He doesn't want any focus on him, the person. But, rather only on his music. The mark of a proper underground artist, if you ask us!
When asked to give a few words on himself, he kept it to the things that mattered. āIāve been making music for over 10 years now, trying my hand in various genresā. We love his personality, as he is a perfectionist when it comes to his sounds; taking two years to properly edit and master his work in the build up to the recent release of his debut album. With regard to his sound, āI work with analog fx in order to capture the concrete sound and realise its fullest potentialā. Spoken like a techno purist!
He comes out with his debut album - "Tournefortia" - released via Subsist Records and mastered at Mastered at Black Monolith Studios by Voidloss. The album has received rave reviews from some of the purists of the underground scene. It comes action packed with all that Squaric holds dear: Rave, Distortion, 90ās and Industrial sounds! An absolute belter of an album, weāve been bobbing our heads non-stop!
When asked about the inspiration behind the composition and production of his new album, he made it a point to share his absolute truth with regard to his ideology behind it. āAfter experiencing different techniques and experiences, I consider myself an advocate of rave music and its concepts. This album and the idea behind it is simply to do with my absolute adoration and focus on the purity in the sounds of RAVE. Adapting my idea and thought in the processā. That is some serious love right there, he is of the belief that music has the power to speak to us in a very profound way and we totally empathise with that. Music, you multifarious beauty!
It is not everyday you are told that your work is enjoyed by one of your favourite artists; we are thus starstruck and awestruck for this beautiful honour. Thank you mate for the grimy industrial techno sounds, we are on a special trip because of it. Keep up the brilliant work, we are eagerly awaiting your future releases. Kudos!!
