My fiance's pride and joy, Mr Krocky Balboa.
We are in the process of moving all 35 of our aquariums (and no, that number is not counting stock tanks) and I managed to get a few shots of Megamind while his tank was being torn down. As you can see, he is getting ever more hideous with each passing day.
Reblogging for that name.
I've been able to care for my tanks more again since the puppy has become a little calmer (aka won't drink the tank water out of the bucket and pee all over the house while I'm not looking) so the algae are slowly receding now. I actually started to like the murky look a lot so I didn't clean it off manually. Well, the nerite has dug up the Buce and now I see how bad it actually was 😁 Don't worry though, the parameters are completely on point and Schüppchen is lively as always! This tank by far is my favorite. It's so dynamic and reactive and teaching me a lot.
We had to send Shiva over the rainbow bridge yesterday. He had been growing a tumor near his tail fin that caused it to disappear. Yesterday I saw that he had suddenly gotten dropsy too, and that was the point where I decided to let him go. Goodbye, my little fairy fish. I really wish I could have helped you heal all the way, but it wasn't supposed to be. Rest easy.
Update on Schüppchen: She's healing! Her injuries were less severe than I thought, in fact, she only had a gash in the back, the belly and a tattered ventral fin. I decided against changing her water as her parameters were good, just added botanicals, turned off the light for a day, and I've been feeding her gel food. The second picture shows her a day ago, healing just fine. I am so relieved. ❤
Bettablr, PLEASE help
I just found Schüppi stuck in one of her decorations after she wouldn't come to get her food. I helped her out but she lost a pectoral fin, her anal fin is shredded, I can't see her ventral fins because she's so clamped and she's got big wounds in back and belly. I already added lots of botanics and something to help ease the stress, but what else can I do? Can she even recover? Please help, I am livid :'(
I actually took the plunge and added some Caridina to JL’s tank…
Three blue ones, one orange one and a tinyyy orange baby that I got for free. JL tried to chase them, but I think he’s given up because he’s very slow and his mouth is tiny. 😅
I already like them so much.
"Drop in some foob? Pls?" Schüppi's begging is the cutest.
I know other people have dealt with this:
How do you keep your bettas from eating algae wafers?
Any time I put a wafer in the aquarium, my betta “hunts” it down and eats the whole thing. The whole time he glares at me for giving him vegetables. Meanwhile all my shrimp are probably starving because all their food is being eaten.
(I’ve tried putting the wafers under things, but the shrimp fight over them and pull them into the open. )
Have you tried feeding at night, when it’s pitch black and all the lights are off? That’s how I stopped mine from eating them when he was housed with shrimp. The shrimp will find the food, and the betta should just settle down and go to sleep. That’s how it worked with mine, anyway.
Those wafers sometimes contain fish meal - therefore the smell can be appealing for the betta.
Try nettle sticks or dried nori algae. :) My Betta won't touch those.
I mentioned this tank was chaos right now, didn't I? I love it though. It finally feels like there's space to grow again. I've been thinking about adding cherry shrimp. JL is incredibly chill with his Amano buddies and will even nap while they fumble around next to him. I might look into adding a few and go from there...
My small king. Sorry I've been rather inactive on here - the new puppy has been taking up soo much time but I'm finally getting back into the swing of things - with aquarium stuff too. Today my Fiance added new plants for Krocky, and I removed half a bucket of plants from JL's tank. I didn't even notice the Anubias were in bloom! Right now the tank is still cloudy and a little barren, but I hope the empty spaces will fill up nicely as planned. I have high hopes to bring my alternathera back to life and have it thrive.
This look is called- fishkeeper can’t do even one single water change without making a mess
It’s bc you were busy succing the siphon
🐟💦👄 worth it
You must repent for your sins
I thought those were super muscular legs at first tbh
Water change day, woop woop.
The frogbit in this tank is growing ridiculously fast. I keep throwing out oodles of it and it just keeps getting more and BIG.
Same with the moss tree in the background. I seriously need to trim it, it hardly looks like a tree anymore (but feels very nice and squishy).
Is that a mustard gas color betta?
Nope, John Lemon is a weird, weird color mixture. He's mostly yellow but darkening, with a pink sheen that makes his dark spots purple. 😊 His fins may look like they're lighter at the edges but that's because they were half gone when I got him and they've grown back since.

I love his tank! It looks soooo soothing
What lights/substrate/dosing do you use? This tank is gorgeous wowww…
Actually this was a complete Eheim Set called AquaStar 54 led! The substrate is just dark sand, and I use Ferrdrakon iron fertilizer once a week (a German brand). It's not that great of a tank really, it's actually pretty out of control, has algae, lots of pest snails and I'm not that happy with it, haha. Thanks for the compliment though! 😄

Can anyone give me a possible ID on this guy?
He is believed to be a hybrid of some kind. He is a fast and active guy, likes being in the plants and cleaning any algae off them as well as eating the algae wafers I drop in for them now and then. He has a stripe down his back like a wood shrimp but is not a filter feeder and is a lot smaller. He is brownish and almost see throughish.
He seems very friendly with my cherries and wood shrimp but want to be 100% Not that he’d he able to hurt the wood shrimp. Dave almost had him when he swam in front of Dave when he was feeding. Scared both of them a hell of a lot.
Some better pictures of him. He seems to be no threat to the baby cherries as 4 were sat in front of him though 2 swam off as I took the pics.
Don’t keep wild type bettas (unless from the splendens complex) separate. I find that species from the unimaculata, coccina, etc. complex, like to be in twos (pairs) or groups if given enough space. Splendens complex fish tend to be more aggressive to each other so they can be kept alone or in a community. Have you seen how lonely a large adult male betta macrostoma gets? They’re like puppies. I like to keep them in pairs rather than groups so that they do not have to compete with others.
