alligator cake, 2012

In high school, my part time job was at a bakery/ sweets shop. The owner let me decorate some of the less traditional cakes and it was a blast! This was my first foray into fondant (far from good, but extremely fun to work with) and the cake was about 3 feet long.

crochet cow, 2020

Made this one for my sister. I freestyled it based off a knitting pattern, but it ended up working up really quickly. And I think it turned out pretty cute

Pooh Bear, 2020

This was the Pooh bear that I made for the other little girl I nannied at the time. Once again I free styled it. The legs turned out slightly different sized because I didn’t think about writing down the process I used for the first leg. But overall I was extremely happy with it. I also didn’t realize at first that buttons weren’t safe for toddler toys, but I was able to change them to embroidered eyes to make it safe! This was about half the size of the toddler and she absolutely loved it!

crochet bear, 2020

This was my very first Amigurumi! I believe I saw a YouTube video and wanted to try? My grandma had taught me to crochet when I was about 8. My mom got into it when I was in middle school and so I started doing it a little bit too- just a few projects a year- through college. But then it was only double crochet and granny square rectangle shaped things (scarf, blanket, bag, etc.) It wasn’t until this that I really focused in on it and began trying new skills. The original face was flat and goofy looking, but I changed it to this later on. Wish I still had the picture of the original.

crochet orangutans, 2020.

I had been working on a masters degree. I was signed up to go on a trip to Borneo to learn about community conservation and endangered species. I was also just getting in to amigurumi, so I was inspired! 2020 changed my travel plans quite a bit, but it did give me lots of time to work on my crochet skills. And I still think these guys turned out really cute.

This one of my earliest amigurumi, made as a gift. I watched some YouTube videos on basic amigurumi shapes, then took inspiration from another crocheters project. I didn’t know at the time that there were crochet patterns for people to follow, so just sort of made it up as I went. Also had no idea about yarn sizes and hook sizes, so I used a super thick yarn and a big hook and this turned out much bigger than I had thought, but I ended up loving it. And the little girl I nannied at the time loved it too! I made this for her and a similar sized Pooh bear for her little sister.
