We are a week in now. My students are great: energetic, excited about Spanish, interested and interesting.
I feel good about being here, I hope they will keep me on. I'm trying really hard to be part of the team and get to know everyone. I know this is technically a contracted position but I can't help feeling like the new kid on the block, despite being not a kid and this not being a block at all.
It is REAL.
Hey, Veteran Teachers, what supplies do you recommend for first year teachers to definitely pick up? What should we do about our rooms?
I'm a first year Spanish Teacher who will be teaching level 2, at the middle school. I'm struggling with what to do about my room (which I haven't seen yet) because I don't have much in the way of decorations or supplies. Any tips?
I had my second interview yesterday and it went well, I guess, because the HR director called me to let me know I was the preferred candidate and that I'd be meeting the superintendent as soon as he comes back from vacation.
I'm unbelievably thrilled. This was my first choice and it seems like it is MINE.
UPDATE: I got a Very Official Email today and it is for REAL.

Job hunting
I have a mock lesson tomorrow for a job I want more than anything I have ever wanted. It's only meant to be 25 minutes which I have a terribly hard time planning for, after having 55 min periods last semester.
Right now, I have an anticipatory set and mini class discussion, a semantic mapping exercise, a story building activity, and my exit ticket which uses authres videos. I'm hoping it will be good enough. I don't normally do a lot of storyasking but I wanted to do something engaging that also didn't require a whole lot of explanation on procedures (like some of my other standbys do, but then work great for all subsequent times they get used).
I am a good teacher. This is my dream job. My energy and excitement will hopefully shine through. I can do this. I got three other offers, I can get this one, too.
You know I thought the panic coming from being a first year teacher would hold off until august, but nope…it decided to come early
Found this on IG and want any teacher to know this is true. Treat people (including your students) the way you want to be treated. They will listen and follow all of your rules and directions if you don’t create a barrier. The best rule is to give students a new start each and every day. Don’t let yesterday’s behavior affect how you treat your students the next day.
I have something like 51 days left in my student teaching assignment and I'm both extremely ready and not at all ready for it to end.
I had every intention of blogging during my student teaching assignment and yet, here I am, eight weeks in and no blogging done.
Does lesson planning ever get easier? I'm feel like I'm drowning and I haven't even gotten my placement yet.
