Does anyone seriously want another run of the be gé do crimes t shirts? I'm getting asks about them again and I'm wondering what the demand is actually like.

Your user name triggers a flight or flight instinct in me I haven't felt since I had to do those damn sraith pictuirs. Just know I hate it and keep up the good work
Thank you x
Hello!
As an Irish queer person I love your be gé do crimes shirt. Is there any chance of you bringing it back, or would you be ok with me printing one for myself?
No worries if not, thank you!
Sorry I haven't looked in my inbox in forever. I don't think there's enough of a demand to do another run tbh.
Relating to a post you made with the untitled goose game as the feature: I have previously designed a couple of untitled goose cross-stitch tapestries and I saw your ‘be gé do crime’ and thought it’d look so good in one of them
So I did a little mock up - I previously sold cross-stitch items at artist alleys etc and though I’m currently in an off period of making/selling I wanted to check in if it’d be okay to make & sell the made tapestry.
I left a question in your notes but I wanted to share the photo of the designs with you.
I haven't checked my inbox in ages. These are so cool!
Tá mé air ais!
2024 Update A lot has changed since I initially wrote this piece, sometime around 2016 or so. It was originally written for Reddit, then mig
has def already been shared here but further to previous posts on the subject here is a post with a bunch of resources for learning irish!
Random as hell. Literal years ago you added more info to a post about sean-nós dancing, and it was one of the things that pushed me back towards dance for the first time since I was a kid. Now I've been doing sean-nós and more traditional/non-competitive Irish step for three years, and I'm so happy. Thank you for sharing.
Aww ❤
Before the cost of living crisis gets any worse someone needs to just snap & restart the Whiteboys
Protesting is clearly not working so let's just do this again
Yes it is! Everyone be sure to get into the spirit of whiteboy wednesday by brutally piking your landlord to death 👍
They needed more than you could ever imagine

What are some ways to say "I love you" in Irish?
I’m assuming this is romantic so I’m going to say “Tá mé i ngrá leat/Táim i ngrá leat” which translates as I am in love with you. That would be my first thought (partially because of SayWeCanFly’s song Tá Mé I, I will admit).
Other suggestions I’ve found:
Tá grá agam duit - I have love for you
Is tú mo stór/stóirín - You are my treasure/sweetheart/honey
Mo ghrá thú - you are my love
Mo chroí thú - you are my heart
Is tú mó ghrá - you are my love
Is tusa mo ghrá geal/grá bán - you are my bright/white love
Gráim thú - I love you. Apparently not technically correct but it is used
Mo chroí ionat/mo chroí isteach ionat - my heart is in you
Is ghrá liom thú - I love you
Mo chuach thú - I love you
Phrases like this could help?
Mo ghrá-sa - my love
Mo stór/stóirín - my honey/treasure
Mo chuisle - my pulse
A chuisle mo chroí - my heart’s beloved
Mo cheol thú - you are my music
Mo chroí thú - you are my heart
ploika on Reddit says this:
Non native but reasonably decent Irish speaker here: "Is tú mo ghrá" - "you are my love", is how I'd say it if you want meaningfully tell someone you love them. Say, if you were to say it to someone for the first time. "Mo ghrá thú" - kind of "my love to you", would in my mind be more of the I love you you'd say at the end of a phone call to your partner. That's just my opinion though. People use "mo ghrá thú" in poetry so it's not a nothing statement either.
Someone in the same Reddit thread suggested a page that I can’t seem to link but here’s the url so you can copy and paste it - https://blogs.transparent.com/irish/saying-“i-love-you”-in-irish-without-the-verb-“to-love”/
I hope that helped in some way but if anyone has any other suggestions or corrections of what I’ve put here then please do add on!

having a chat with an author friend about unexamined tropes and power structures in fantasy novels and also about the misuse of celtic languages and it got me thinking about how fucking funny it is when a book wants you to believe that a few sentences of modern irish are inherently mysterious and otherworldly when you literally see people making memes and instagram reels in the language every day. like really. embarrassing for them tbh
#it is so funny #can't remember which author but when i was younger i chanced upon a fantasy book #and the language spoken by the elves was literally just irish #these dudes were holding full conversations in italics that the main character couldn't understand #á la klingon in star trek #but in a language people actually speak #imagine you opened a song of ice and fire and idk jon snow went to a land beyond the ice king's domain #and they were speaking a foreign mystical language which jon snow was marvelling at for how unusual it was #but then when you read the italics it was literally just french #that's what that moment felt like
literally this especially when some plot reveal or character information rests on nobody understanding the irish and you're there like "yeah they told us this fifty pages ago?"
like it never occurs to them that anyone reading the book would... understand the irish... bro
(though in fairness their grammar/spelling is usually so bad that it's a struggle anyway lmao)
Society if tumblr users would deign to read even 1 single five page article about modern northern irish history before deciding to post a hot take about the IRA:
"Joking about liking the IRA is a tankie thing" "the IRA is the one resistance movement which everyone everywhere likes and supports" "don't call the IRA irish, they're from NORTHERN ireland; they don't count"
in honour of derry girls being back here’s the best gag from the show
how am I supposed to tell people that this is my favorite color specifically because of the funny hex code?
New idea for the Irish flag
Irish tricolour with #69b00b and #fa6607
