They went a little brighter and nodded. "I'll see you then. I should- I should go pay now, said I'd be home soon from here."

"See you then!" She waved.

Phoenix was halfdozing at the register.

When they had left, Phoenix had gone back to half dozing. Meanwhile, Auva shouted up the stairs, "CLEAR MY WEDNESDAY SCHEDULE!"

"YOU- YOU HAVE FIVE APPOINTMENTS!"

"NOT ANYMORE, I DON'T! I'M GONNA BE BINGING Fairy Tail WITH HEART!"

"I'm big on popcorn. Bring on the butter, and it's a date!" They realized their wording and blushed bright. "I mean- You know what I mean!"

"Yeah, it's a date!" She didn't seem to catch the wording. She beamed.

"Next Wenesday, I should be free!" They grinned just as excitedly.

"Oh, perfect! I've nothing to do that day!" She clasped her hands together. "Do you like popcorn? I'll have popcorn. And those sun juice pouches."

They grinned now, at her excitement. "Yeah, of course."

She cheered in Celestial. "What day are you free? Unfortunately, I have another appointment in a half hour, so today I'm unavailable, but! You pick a day and if I don't have any appointments, I'll keep the whole day clear!"

"That sounds fun, actually."

"Really?" She asked, excited now. "Cause Leo's the only one who actively watches these with me and he doesn't live with us. I mean, sure, the others will sometimes, but they don't get into it like we do."

They relaxed a little more at that, and leaned on her as they listened to her talk.

"But as far as Fairy Tail is concerned, my favorite has to be Loke. I can't tell you why, but he is. I actually have a couple seasons worth of dvds, if you ever wanna come by and watch it with me!"

They took a deep breath. "Yeah. Korey's checking if he needs to take over. Shitty parents are a touchy subject."

"Right, of course. Um.. Oh!" She started to talk about a different anime now. A light hearted, slice of life kind of anime.

"Yeah." They gestured a middle finger, and then force themself to settle back again, bristled, but trying to relax. Korey was starting to watch them.

"New topic?" She asked, watching them closely.

"I don't fucking know!" They gestured. "Because they're idiots? Or want a fucking power trip? Or a doll to make do whatever they want? Or maybe they're too damn proud to admit couple's therapy is what they need. Ask the dumbasses who have kids that shouldn't."

Her eyes hardened. "Some humans really have kids for such- such- asinine reasons?"

They looked over at her. "At best, these parents just aren't ready to raise kids, which fucks them up because they're not supporting them enough. Or they're abusive. Or actually fucking abandon them. To the Foster System, or the middle of nowhere. And all of those suck ass. No wonder people get high pain tolerances." Their tone bit harshly, though not at Auva.

Her frown deepened. "Then why do they have kids?"

They leaned back on the counter. "Yeah, life is pretty shit for teens if they have shit parents, or none. You find a way to deal with it, but pain tolerance isn't a real high concern for a while." They shrug and frown at the wall.

She frowned. "Why is that?"

They nodded in appreciation at that truth. "Yeah, they definitely can be."

"I worry about the teenagers. We see too many who have a pain tolerance almost as high as Jake's or even yours sometimes. Never quite there, but close enough to worry."

"Yeah, he's a baby punk. A lot like him. Those little squirts are pretty precious too, huh?" They closed the video/photo gallery on their phone.

She nodded. "They all are. I think children are one of the only good things about humanity."

"Ohhhh. Well, I don't have a lot of pictures from earlier than the last two or three years, but this one-" They pull the video to a time stamp where an edgy kid with messy black with bits of electric blue curls, leather gloves, black sweatpants, the whole bit, "-is Ethen, adopted this year." They pulled it to another time stamp. "And these two-" They pointed at two smaller ones, "-are Nico and Tabi. Nico's adopted, Tab's a /really/ baby sister. As far as we know."

"He's got a similar aesthetic to Jake." She said when Ethen was showed. Then she giggled at Nico. "Oh, he's adorable." She nodded at Tabi. "She looks like him, yeah."

They smiled at her blush for a moment before shaking it off. "I don't have any baby pictures on here. We grouped up when I was... seven years old." They frowned very briefly, and then shook it off. "So no baby photos of Jake, Crys or Mark to speak of... unless... I could probably get a few from dad on Mark."

Her blush deepened and she cursed in Celestial.

"English is a stupid language." She said, speaking said language once more. "Jake is a Dad, yes? What do his kids look like?"

They googled 'baby pictures' on their phone now, and held up the search results. "Here."

"Oh. N-no, I meant.. I meant Jake's kids." She blushed a little in embarrassment. "I've never seen them myself."

They grinned, "Far as I know, he hasn't yet. Anything to get the kids to laugh, that's why she does it at least half the time."

"What do they look like? Those specific human children. I don't see many at the shop, but I have on my travels. Do they all start out so small?" She asked, tilting her head.
