It felt like everything was working out throughout the day, you finished the essay you had to hand in for tomorrow, work went by swiftly and the world was being kind to you with every step you took within.
You were heading into a local café to grab a drink, as you stepped through the doors, you were greeted with a lineup, you had time. You were too busy looking at the menu, not noticing the line up moving that there was a gap ahead of you, and feeling a tap against your shoulder. Instinctively you moved ahead quickly, turning around to smile at the person, as you did, the entire world froze for a moment and you caught your breath. The male was busy studying the menu, just as you did moments before. He held his bottom lip between his teeth, his brown eyes were squinted with his eyebrows narrowed, your eyes traveled down, you knew that signature look.
You turned back around before he could catch you staring, it was rude to stare, you stepped up to the counter, looking up at the menu once more before ordering a latte and a muffin.
“Is that all?” The barista asked you, you nodded shyly. “Um, no, a coffee please, and it's on me.” The voice said closely beside you, you shook your head. “No, no thank you,” You say quickly to the barista and to the male, you were not looking at him, you couldn’t because you knew he knew that he caught you staring and this was his offer.
His laughter escaped his lips, you pouted, feeling him stand closer, watching him tap the card on the machine before you looked up at him. “You—you did not need to, really.” You said again, moving with him to get out of the way for the next customer.
Like your day couldn’t get any better..
“I wanted to, believe me.” He said, looking around for a table, in which you watched his eyes scan the little café, he looked back at you with that signature smile. “Would you like to sit..?” He asked you, waiting for you to tell him your name. Your lips were in a straight line and you couldn’t help but not smile, nodding slightly. “Yeah, it’s y/n.”
You headed for a table for two, that was beside the window and a bookshelf, placing your bag down as he followed behind, sitting on the other side of the small table, you pressed your elbows on the table with your cheek on your hand, anxiously tapping your foot already on the ground softly. He got comfortable in the seat, you could only hear the necklaces on his chest clatter together, he smiled towards you.
“I noticed you, looking, and I knew those eyes as a familiar face,” He said to you, you were confused, did he think you were somebody else, oh god. “I’ve never met you..” You sadly spoke, great, now the day felt awful, sitting back in the chair and looking away towards the coffee machines.
He laughed, “No, oh sorry, I meant, that you’re a peaceful army member, right?” He informed you, putting his hand on top of yours, making you look at him. A laugh escaped your lips and gave him a nod of relief, looking down at his hand on top of yours. “Yes, yes I am—but how could you tell that I was? Maybe I was just checking you out?” You confidently said to him, looking him in the eyes now, you were shocked of how confident you were, it surprised you and he let out a little laugh.
Watching him, he leaned down beside the edge of the table, picking up your tote bag, and his finger grazed across a pin, it was the garden's gate symbol. You let out a giggle, pressing your back on the chair, in your defeat. He put the tote bag back down gently, laughing with you. “And, you know me, right?” He questioned you and your lips curved into a smile.
Tilting your head as you looked across at him, who was this beautiful soul in front of you? He was grinning, already knowing something funny was going to come out of your mouth. “Carter, right?” You spoke slowly, pointing your index finger at him. He let out a howl of a laugh from his stomach, leaning back as he did, laughing with him as the barista walked over with your latte and muffin, and Jake’s coffee.
“Oh god, alright, I deserved that one y/n,” Jake said, he couldn’t pull that smile off of his lips and the laugh was dying down, you raised your brows and gave him a nod. Pulling apart a bit of the muffin, you allowed Jake to have some, the both of you were pulling apart small chunks off of the muffin. “I thought you would usually, avoid fans, cause you know, aren’t getting paid,” You wiggle your brows, he rolled his eyes at you with a smirk.
“Oh boo, that's boring, who do you think I am, Ryan Gosling?” Jake questions you, you grin, he was tapping his finger on top of yours before pulling the muffin away from you. “No but in all seriousness, I do not mind at all. I love it, and I love you guys,” Jake explains to you, you were flushed pink, covering the smile, you pulled the plate back into the center of the table and ripped a piece off, popping it into your mouth.
“Glad you guys aren’t stuck up, it makes it even more familial, like, we’re all like friends reuniting, I guess.” You tried to explain, Jake held a smile on his lips as he took a drink of his coffee. You took the moment, taking a drink from your latte as well, enjoying the serenity with him, it wasn’t like it would happen again, you still couldn’t comprehend the moment.
Another couple of minutes of chatting, getting some humor in there, the cups were empty and the muffin was finished besides the leftover crumbs, you knew it obviously had to come to an end, smiling to Jake, as he was talking about future plans that he can spill, but he hinted that things would be happening, and that was all he could tell you.
“As much as I would love to tell you, y/n, I want it to be a surprise.” He says cheesily, you rolled your eyes playfully and let out a sigh, he laughed. “Fine, fine.” You smile, “I won't tell you anything either, It will have to be a surprise,” You quip back, tilting his head with a grin.
“Fair game, I like it.” Jake says, getting up and picking up your bag for you, passing it over as the two of you squeeze your way through past the other tables before stopping at the front door.
You looked at him, he was already grinning to you, you nodded your head and pushed the door open. “Well, this has been great, thank you, Jake.” You say, turning to him, he smiled. “I would consider it a highlight of my day, thank you, y/n,” He responded, you knew your cheeks were heated from that compliment.
Jake was the first one to step over, wrapping his arms around you to give you a goodbye hug, you followed in suit, wrapping your arms under his, giving him a little squeeze. “It was lovely to meet you, Jake,” You responded in the hug before pulling apart.
“I’m glad to meet you as well, y/n,” Jake smiled, giving you a little wave of his hand, starting to walk down the street, you just waved, watching him walk past you, continuing on with his day. You stood in shock, watching him disappear down a different street with a smile that was across your face.
Reality hit you like a brick, as someone bumped into you, knocking you out of the state you were in and with a groan you turned and went the other direction towards your apartment building. You still couldn’t shake the smile on your face, his face was pictured in your mind and how gentle, kind he could be, he even paid for your drink and muffin, how sweet.
As you stepped into the elevator, you were digging through your bag for your phone, when you found a napkin, it must have slipped in, you pulled it out and your jaw almost dropped, the elevator doors opened and you gasped.
‘You are too precious to let go of, - jake (***)-***-****.’

Y’all are attacking people now, ones that don’t have anything to do with the situation. This is between Josh and indigenous fans that have been hurt by his past actions. This is NOT a fight of power or giving anyone the right to harass people, you’re now drowning out the voices of those who are trying to be heard by this amount of negativity.

it’s like insane that an ancient writer knew the words i needed to hear a thousand years on and could see me through all that time but also. it’s not surprising in the least bc they felt as i felt and they sang as i sang and they did everything i’ve ever done there is no state of being which they have not already passed i am nothing new i am not alone and that is a great joy to know
