That car really seems to fit Pauline.
I wonder where the break happened that such wide swaths of younger fans donāt grasp fandom things that used to be unspoken understandings. That fic readers are expected to know fiction from reality,Ā that views expressed in fic are not necessarily those of the author, that the labels, tags and warnings on various kinkfics are also the indication that they were created for titillation and not much more, please use responsibly as per all pornography. The āproblemā isnāt that so-called āproblematicā fic exists but that some of the audience is being stupid, irresponsible, at worst criminal, at best not old enough to be in the audience to begin with. And thatās on the consumer, not the author who told you via labels, tags, ratings, warnings and venues what their fic was about and what it was for.
I canāt stress enough how important this post is
Tumblr. Tumblr is what happened, with its never-ending scrolling, with its lack of nested contents (or ANY comments, when fandom sailed here from the old world), with its tags instead of membered communities.
Tumblr turned fandom content into mindless consumption instead of community. Iām no expert on human behaviour, but Iād put money on this.
When Authors stopped being friends and turned into content providers, new fandom members never learned to care.
āWhen authors stopped being friends and turned into content providersā
Well that reframed my view of every fandom Iāve touched for the last five years, and it explains a lot.
I really cannot emphasize how the lack of comments and nested comments impacted fandom. It turned fandom into a series of one-way relationships. Social media is extremely uninteractive compared to mediums like journals and forums.
Even āTumblr conversationsā, where you reblog each otherās posts back and forth and it turns into a dialogue, extremely limited. You can generally only do this a few times.
But thereās another, insidious layer to this, which is how reblogs work: itās easy to create new ārealitiesā or versions of postā¦without people realizing that other versions exist. If two differnent people reblog from the same person to add a comment, then other people reblog from them adding further comments, youāll get something like this:
That is 14 different versions of the same post someone could see. Fourteen separate realities right there!
You might be seeing this:
While someone else will see this:
Now repeat things over several years and hundreds, if not thousands, of posts, and you can see how this can quickly lead to separate realities.
Even if people know each other, or are in the same fandom!
Something to note about how and why this happens. See those gray lines connecting the various dots? Those are profitable to the social media companies. That nebulous gray blog encompassing the two stars/fans, or the invisible hypothetical line connecting those two stars? That is not profitable. So companies are not only disincentivized to facilitate that connection in the first place, but actively try to prevent it too!
Compare this to how journals, forums, listservs, and other older fandom platforms operated:
Now, this is a very vague visual representation of multiple different platforms, but there are three main things I was trying to indicate.
tl;dr
Social media removed reciprocation, communication, and agency in content consumption. Fans react to either passive consumption because thatās the only way to stay sane in such an overwhelming platform, or to extremism because thatās the only form of agency they can truly have in their fandom experience. Fandom isnāt something you participate in, itās something that happens to you.
And if this sounds familiar to any social science majors out there, you mightāve taken a course about group dynamics, ideological persistence, and/or had to study about the proliferation of social and/or political movements. Nicky Case has a lovely interactive webapp that lets you play around with these concepts and experience this in just half an hour of playing around:
The Wisdom and/or Madness of Crowds
Those three things in detail (put under a cut due to length):
This is an excellent read on Tumblr fandom, and encapsulates some of the things about the platform that give me pause before posting.
I think that what weāre experiencing now, as a reaction, is a resurgence of individual communities. More often than not these days, I see that individual fandoms or groups within fandoms have a Discord or other place to talk away from Tumblr.
I think that may also explain why some people tend to like more than they reblog. Reblogging means leaving yourself open to (often extremist/purity-motivated) criticism of your choices - or leaves the OP open to similar criticism from your followers, with you as the involuntary middleman whose reblog made that connection possible.
Likes and drafts are private - you can collect posts in a place where no one sees them but you. It doesnāt have to be a public statement. It can just be a thing that caught your interest for whatever reason, that you wanted to be reminded of.
I strongly encourage anyone who hasnāt already to read this essay on how web 2.0 has changed fandom
itās not just tumblr, or twitter, itās a fundamental shift in how people act online in the era of social media and algorithm-driven interaction towards advertising revenue
@anamatics
Iām bouta say something thatās gonna make some people angry but here goes...
CHARIAKKO IS A BAD AND INVALID SHIP BECAUSE SHIPPING MINORS WITH ADULTS AINāT COOL AND DONāT USE āAGED UPā AS AN EXCUSE.
Iām just really sick of seeing people online (ESPECIALLY on Twitter) ship this. It is just wrong in so many ways and itās a clearly pedophilic ship. I mean hell, Iād rather ship Ankko and I personally donāt really like it, but at least itās not this pedo bullshit. All I hear are excuse of āOh itās just a hot for teacher shipā or āBut theyāre aged upā and itās really just disgusting tbh.
So please, PLEASE, I am begging yāall not to support this ship because itās really disgusting and needs to be stopped.
Stop lying to yourself. You wouldn't ship Ankko, hypocrite. This is just another ship on the load of ships this show has. And that's how it is. Save your complaints for the real pedophiles you don't even bother to mention because you rather focus con cartoon people.
āPedophilia in fiction is badā and āpedophilia in real life is badā are two statements that can coexistand should coexist. Speaking out about fictional pedophilia is important, since there is a lot of popular media that glorifies it.
Fiction clearly does have some effect on reality; you can see it reflected in the studies about how the extinction of sharks accelerated after the movie Jaws came out.
You turing this into a tiff about shipping Ankko makes you seem willfully ignorant. Chariakko and Ankko are obviously on different levels. One being a ship between two teenage peers, and the other being a ship between an adult and minor. Ankko does not compare to chariakko in anyway, shape, or form.
Weeding out covert pedophiles in a community by excluding the adult/minor ships and shippers is productive and necessary. Do you really want to die on a hill that greenlights a pedophillic ship?
The people that has the inability to, not only not even GRASP the gravity of what pedophilia is and causes to people but to also project it to fictional ships only talks about the how twisted is their mental mental state, I'm sorry, but this type of shit can't fly are you all underage or something? Because What happens is that when you're in a fandom bubble cesspool like this place where you create all these "rules" about what goes in and out it gives these people a fake higher moral ground, it automatically goes against them eventually. Fandom police can only do wrong. Try this shit at other places and you will end up eaten alive and with reason. But you won't, because like I already said, this is a fandom bubble. And thankfully the Tumblr fandom isn't a representation of what the actual LWA fandom is. As expected from Diakkofans that always give the pass to their peers that constantly sexualize these two minors with each other. The sheer hypocrisy of all of this. These people just need to grow up and let people ship whatever the hell they want.
@rareālwaāshipsāweekĀ Day 2 ā Character Gets Sick and Taken Care of by Spouce(s) Since Marjolaine has a fairly French name, I figured these two knew each other from childhood. Also they totally sneak in random French words at one another. I donāt think theyād speak mainly French considering they both spent a lot of time in English countries. Still mulling a ship name over. I need help. haha
Itās the spooky month so I wanted try drawing something.Ā

I had drawn a lot of sketches about random stuff and headcanons so I was slowly coloring.Ā

Looking back at Episode 25 of Little Witch Academia anime, I just realized that in the montage of everyone who rejoiced over happiness and magic which spread by the newly revived Yggdrasil, there are two characters who stands out from the rest:
A Slavic (?) blonde girl, and...
A little American girl.
I can tell that this scene is meant to parallel with how Shiny Chariot inspired Akko and Diana in the past, and hopefully, these two will appear as new main characters in future sequel/spin-off of the series (though it all depends on Yoh Yoshinari and Studio Trigger).
They already said that they still have a lot to tell with the current cast. This might have served as some kind of parallel, but they wouldn't be main characters.
Hi! I enjoyed your LWA commentary: thanks for doing it! And since the button on this page says "Ask", I guess I have a question: if you could do something differently about LWA, what one thing would you change, and how?
Ooh dear, thatās a good question. There are definitely aspects I think couldāve been handled better; giving Croix more of an active role in the narrative before her big reveal wouldāve made her an even better character. But in terms of changes that would take this from a 9/10 to a 10/10 for me, thereās only one real option: make Diakko canon. There are few things that can elevate a show for me better than a well-written romance, and that final episode proved, in no uncertain terms, that Diana and Akko could absolutely handle being a couple, both in the in-universe sense of them having a lot to offer each other and the out-universe sense of it being a dramatically satisfying conclusion to their arc. If they had taken that route, I wouldāve been completely confident in ranking LWA among my top anime of all time.
*rolls eyes*
Typical ramblings of a shipper. Though literally the first part about Croix is a legit criticism.
Little Witch Academia Season 2 Key Visual Imaishi listed as new Director and Hiroyuki Sawano listed as the new soundtrack composer
Cursed post.
Also, would you be so kind to post the actual sources to the 99% of your posts?
Iām sorry but if it was so neccesary to make a boyfriend for Akko just to sayĀ āno homoā couldnāt at least be someone interesting like the hunter boys rather than some boring white rich kid?
When this series was no more than just a pair of short films a lot of people wanted Diana to be Akkoās love interest, pretty sure Studio Trigger was aware of it, yet they decided to give that place to some nobody character. It sincerely felt like a middle finger to its fandom.
Again, if they decided to go for theĀ āno homo sapiens allowedā route couldnāt at least be a more interesting character? Even Frank felt like a more fun choice.
"Studio Trigger should have made Diana Akko's romantic interest just because a certain portion of the fanbase a.k.a shippers wanted it to be like that".
That's what part of your post is implying. It's like no one that thinks like that even consider these shows have creators with their own opinions, tastes and ideas they want to put in their own work because they want to and not because certain people like or don't. And yes, Studio Trigger IS aware many shippers like Diakko, but that doesn't mean they HAVE to write them like that because of that. They actually respect those fans interpretations and said they can have fun all they want in fanworks because it would be silly and pointless and even mean for them to come in and say "No, don't ship them because they aren't gay". They can have fun with the characters too, but they have always been honest as well, so saying that it's like a "middle finger to the fandom" not only feels ill intented and slander-ish, but it's also quite entitled.
I was also there since the OVA days and I can properly say you're overblowing it. Diana herself wasn't even that popular back then, it was Sucy. Diakko, being such a level entry ship in general on the same tier as any run of the mill MC x Rival ship was shipped low key and by not as many, even though the ship started from there, because like it was already said, it's an entry level type of ship it's an easy one to get in. And that's ok, because there's nothing wrong with that.
That said, I agree with your general idea of Andrew, the thing is that, given that most of the main characters were naturally having most of the spotlight, characters like him wouldn't have so much chance to show enough characterization, especially with the constant changes the script got. But yeah, Frank and one of the hunter dudes seemed to have been entrataining choices, but most of the time what's entretaining depends of subjetivities and on the other hand, something tells me that if those were the actual choices instead of Andrew, certain people would always find something to complain or dislike about it.
And that's what I find mind-boggling. Because let's suppose Andrew and Akko get constant flirtflingling ot each other or even manage to eventually to hook up in the show, what would be the problem if I'm one of the ones that ship Akko with Diana or any of the other girls (because yes, Diana isn't the only valid female option available, despite what some people want to to believe)?
Since when should I care if a character I like to ship with another character I like gets a canon romantic interest or not?
The concept of shipping is more broad than just subject ourselves to what's canon or not only. Hell, Diakko shippers are already pretty much going beyond that by shipping Akko and Diana in a romantic nature anyway.
Tumblr saw it first
Switch Diana with Lotte and it's actually accurate.
Little Witch Academia PSA
howdy folks, i really love LWA, and i love the ships as well, however, PLEASE STOP LEWDING THE CHARACTERS. THEY ARE MINORS. CHILDREN. AKKO IS 16. PLEASE STOP DRAWING HER IN BUNNYSUITS. PLEASE STOP WRITING/DRAWING SMUT OF THE KIDS. THAT'S WHAT THEY ARE. KIDS.
lewd ursula and croix all you want, they're adults. but please, PLEASE, stop doing this to the underage characters. they are just children. and "aging them up" is just a pathetic excuse for you to create a form of child pornography. and this goes for all fandoms, too. *cough* south park fandom *cough* my hero academia fandom *cough*
if you see this, please reblog and tell people to STOP LEWDING MINORS. lookin @ you snowthesaltqueen.
You absolutely don't know how fandoms work and you can't tell anyone what kind of fanworks can or can't produce. I personally don't endorse nor produce nsfw with this characters, but you're simply missing the point. You do NOT (nor anyone who unironically believe they can) get to police fan content nor control the collective mind or the individual ideas of the members of a fandom.
On top of that, you're talking about fictional characters, if fans age them up in fanworks, they can definitely do it, if fans make them gay in fanworks, they can do it as well, if fans write or draw about a ship you personally don't care about or consider a NOTP, they absolutely can do it.
Now, if you were talking about real live porn involved real undergage people, you would absolutely have a huge point, but this is not the case.
I know that what you intent is noble, but I heavily suggest you to simply block, ignore what you don't want to see or what you might consider unsavory and surround yourself with fans that produce content you like.
indulging myself with some Charoix
Iām shookt to learn from Reddit (according to the commenter, it was from a LWA staff AMA or some other interview) that Chariot and Croix are both orphans. So the only ones they had were one another sfa;dkjlsfda pls kill me
Oh, boy...
Allow me to inform you that information is FALSE. Chariot herself might be one due to the show throwing some possible hints(stuff that the Producer herself decided to not address nor about anything concerning about Chariot's background since they want to save it for later) but nothing about Croix was said in that sense, only that she's from Italy.
People really need to be careful when using Trigger's words when discussing the characters.
I took some Shiny Chariot and Ariel pics today that I have to go through and edit!!
If you wanna see more please give me insta a follow! @/SugarWitchCosplay
