youtube autoplay served me a video on how to romanticise spring and one of the first ideas was ''go shop the flying tiger spring collection'' and i realised i perchance reached The Woker status
THE USELESS BULSSHIT NOBODY NEEDS STORE?????????? THATS ROMANCE TO YOU?????????
20 WAYS TO ROMANTICISE SPRING WITHOUT SHOPPING
1/ make a little booklet zine out of a piece of paper (plenty of tutorials online) and go on a walk, draw every interesting thing you see - yesterday I went thrifting and instead of spending money i'd just draw the most ridiculous item in the store.
2/ get some scissors and go on a walk, collect flowers, weeds, branches and create a nature bouquet. i put them in vases with no water so they will dry out and look cool for years to come. you can try out dye smashing - get some fresh flowers or leaves and smash them into some fabric or paper with a hammer, creates cool dye splothes.
3/ sit in the sun. sit in the sun. sit in the sun. imagine you're a cat or a lizard on a rock. can be inside, outside, wherever.
4/ plate your food extra nice, cut some cool shapes out of your cucumber or arrange your cheese and ham into a checkered pattern. clean your eating space before sitting down and eating, put some spring music on (to me its gothic rock for example) and eat with no phone. extra good if you can look outside a window.
5/ choose an album of the month, that you've never heard before. listen to it very closely and actively and try to get to know it as best as you can, learn all the lyrics, maybe create some drawings or collages for it, or maybe a pinterest board. it will forever remind you of this particular spring and you will have a special bond to it.
6/ clean your flat and dust your shelves, while you do have a conversation with every trinket, about where you got it from and how much of your life it has seen, what do you like about it or the person you got it from. rearrange the composition for the new season.
7/ change the color of something. can just be eggs with some natural dyes like beetroot shavings or tumeric, or it can be a bland top with some cheap fabric dye. it can be a picture frame you spray painted or it can be the image inside of the picture frame changed to something new. or maybe its just some flowers painted on your walls with a marker. easy way to spruce up your space without buying a new thing. rearrange your furniture or cut your hair.
8/ have a clothing try-on party, either by yourself or with friends, where you try out everything in your closet and pick out an item you're ready to let go. you now have a mission to find that item a new owner without trying to sell it online or donating it.
9/ take photos of everything you see in your favourite colour. wander around aimlessly or do it at work. you can later print them out and collage them or you can make a digital collage and post it somewhere. this is a really good date idea btw.
10/ go read your favourite childhood book under a tree like they do on textbook covers. make yourself a nice drink to go with it, even if its just some fruit in water. if you have a hammock put it up in a park or someone's garden while you do this. alternatively go to a childrens playpark and read on the swings.
11/ fix something you own, weather that's a hole in your wall or a button that fell off your coat, or a lightbulb that gave out. take time to appreciate the living space you have and things you own and take care of them. also a good opportunity to learn a new skill. if you have leftover materials tell your friends about it - maybe they have the same problem and you could help them fix it as well.
12/ handwrite a letter, put a drawing in it or a sticker, maybe a zine or a friendship bracelet. if you can, mail it, if you can't, maybe just throw it into someone's mailbox yourself. you can just tell your friends about your recent life, or you can try to meet someone new this way, or it can be annonymous. if you dont know who to write to, look for posts of people searching for pen pals or maybe think of prison pen pal programs.
13/ skip instead of walking whenever you can. if you use a mobility aid put some seasonal decorations on it, maybe cover the brand logo with something personalised, like a sticker or a ribbon.
14/ look for free concerts/jam sessions in your area, sometimes its a public festival or sometimes its just people in a circle with a guitar singing folk songs together (will probably let you join in!). if you know how to play instruments or have friends who do join up and do it together. try to write the worst song you possibly can, put all your inside jokes into it.
15/ go to some kind of market with a very tiny amount of money. try to find something that you could buy with that budget. if you find it fun haggle. if you find the thing you don't have to buy it btw, its more about the search for it. you can make it a competition with a friend or a date.
16/ look for plants in your area and learn to identify them. get a library book about your local flora or use the internet. learn when they bloom and what animals rely on them. you can do this for birds, insects, trees, anything, just get curious about your surroundings and ecosystem you live in. maybe plant some native flowers if you have the spare money to get seeds. learn the geography of your area and what nearby hills and water bodies are called. visit them.
17/ put something seasonal in your wallet - i carry a dried flower in the photo compartment. you can gather up with friends and all exchange fun notes or drawings to put there.
18/ make something for your local community, weather that's creating one of those free library shelves or just painting a hopscotch game with chalk on the sidewalk.
19/ make friends with local birds, show up regularly in a spot they hang out and feed them appropriate amounts of appropriate food. they will learn to recognize you and you'll probably be able to pet them after a while.
20/ try to find a place you've never been to before, explore streets you've never turned to, go inside buisnesses you've never visited. snoop around, maybe do some urbexing if you're into that, or just look into the gates of private property. if you can't go outside you can do this on google maps (look up a tutorial on how to unlock the 3D feature, its a game changer)
21/ do not go shopping at flying tiger istg you don't need ANYTHING they sell.

hello! In these trying times, how do you plan to move forward with the new youtube age policy?
I … don’t know to be honest. I’m Canadian , and pretty sure the current shit (ai age verification) is going to start in the USA first, but I do feel like it’s only a matter of time before it starts rolling out to everywhere, which really scares me (and obviously I feel really bad for folks in the US who are gonna be the Guinea pigs)
I really don’t want to quit/delete YouTube….. so much of my content is up there (almost 200 videos that I just… don’t have the files to anymore), and it feels really daunting to try to start over on a new platform / ditch this whole thing to start from scratch (idk if that’s what is expected / what is the ‘right thing’ / what people want me to do but …. Idk man I’m so fucking tired.)
Financially things have been really rough for me lately, and I was just hoping to get my shop and my patreon and my YouTube back on track to start feeling Ok again (this was before the news) but now with the update I REALLY don’t know what to do. (I mean, shop and patreon as planned, but YouTube was kind of my like … tool to reach people / make people aware of my work if that makes sense….)
I’m not going to join tik tok, I don’t really want to quit YouTube,
I don’t know honestly, sorry, how much faith I have in Super Tiny Little Video Platforms that are trying to compete with YouTube (honestly haven’t looked into them — bc just trying to get noticed by the YouTube algorithm so often feels like a very awkward and embarrasing and painful experience lmao , like how would I even begin on a smaller platform type thing)
It really sucks cause YouTube felt like my second digital home (Tumblr being my first one) , my spot where I could post and ramble and share all my creative chaos and weird ideas and connect with fellow weirdos, and feel really safe … this new update fucking sucks, and to your question - I don’t know. I feel pretty stuck and unsure how to move forward …
Advice or ideas welcome, and sorry for the whiny tone of my reply, I just, legitimately don’t know right now, and have been feeling the pressure weigh on me (Not bc of this ask! But bc of the news — you didn’t do anything wrong by asking)
Edit — if down the line I can download my videos from YouTube, and re upload to patreon, I might do that …. I just need to figure out logistics of it all, because having a second ‘archive’ of my videos is definitly something I’ve wanted to do since the idea of putting All my faith in one platform scares me, and I think patreon let’s you upload like, video files. I just need to get the video files off YouTube first (and I don’t have YouTube premium, so I think I’ll need to look into some apps / software that can ‘pirate’ my videos for me lol)
I saw something you reposted about it today and just installed yt-dlp on my computer, which was pretty simple, and I believe you can download videos in any format (.mov, .webm, etc) with it. Hopefully the policy doesn’t reach Canada. I can’t imagine how stressful it is for you, I get it about not trusting smaller platforms. Whatever happens, we’re here to support your wonderful work and you <3<3
My stomach is hurting in three whole different ways right now this is too much
Why is the Pinterest algorithm so bad?
I have few vices as far as social media goes; I limit myself to YouTube and Pinterest and those keep me sufficiently online. I go back to these sites again and again not because they are always exceedingly entertaining, but because I am able to see many of my interests compiled before my eyes for my investigation, especially on Pinterest. When I visit it, a colorful collage of Images is set before me. Whether I engage with these interests in the physical world or not is irrellevant; I am able to experience the dope rush associated with them vicariously through these images.
But today, I was browsing as normal and I refreshed the page to find myself looking at like some uncanny rendering of my tastes on paper. A chunk of black and white TikTok screenshots of trad goth folk, like six consecutive ads for car organizers on aliexpress, and multiple veins of Jenna Ortega stock photos. These things make sense to show me if you are an amnesiac robot. Indeed, my tastes include goth fashion, I was looking at car accessories, and Jenna Ortega is like cool I guess, but I haven't saved such overt trad-gothiness in a bit, I have not been overly interested in such elaborate car organization systems, and I saved a couple pins of Jenna Ortega's character from Beetlejuice Beetlejuice because I liked her costume weeks ago.
The Pinterest algorithm is known to me as addicting at best, temperamental and frustrating at worst, which is to say that sometimes it works rather beautifully, serving me my delicious images on a silver platter; things I want to see and have been looking at. But then, sometimes it turns on a dime and shows me beachy mainstream influencers I've never seen or heard of, softcore porn, and large clusters of similar images in waves that are inspired by one thing you saved ages ago. Even when the algorithm is working normally, search results are annoyingly hyper-curated (ex. if I've been looking at Tudor fashion and suddenly switch to something adjacent but distinct it will bleed into the search results terribly). Others have complained of looking at one thing one time and then getting only that recommended to them for a while, but I don't experience that too badly most of the time.
Another quite bothersome thing is the constant updates to the app. Sometimes bugs are fixed but the nigh constant unnecessary changes to the UI just introduces new ones and makes the user experience worse. Never have I once noticed an update and been like "Ah, what a nice change!" it was fine like 4 updates ago when we could swipe down on pins to go back to the previous page and scroll through super long images instead of just viewing them incomprehensibly as incredibly skinny rectangles scaled to fit entirely on a phone screen.
The ONE nice thing is it does seem that they have added a "AI modified" tag (seemingly desktop only) to some images, but this confuses me further because I have only just noticed it today and when I looked it up to find out more, I found a Reddit post from 4 months ago noting it. An artist commented that some of their original lineart had been tagged as "AI modified", and another commenter described how those using AI on the dl could easily circumvent this sad attempt by Pinterest to seem on top of things. My point here is a) Pinterest is bad as rolling out updates(?) and b) Pinterest is bad at moderating the AI content slowly overtaking the platform (but who isn't ig?).
Edit: images to exemplify my points
Jenna Ortega is extremely cool I'm sure but I saved 3 pins of her in the specific Beetlejuice II costume ages and ages ago
2. Who is she ?? ft. more Jenna Ortega and a comic I am not familiar with
3. I would get more images but it's back to normal now. WHY does the algorithm just periodically get horrible like a forest creature at a blood moon ??
Dude just let me at it
Panera Iced Chai Tea Latte: 7/10
I love whipped cream! The flavor of the drink is good, just sooo sweet oh my gosh. I’ll add some milk once I drink it down a bit and see if it’s better.
I added milk and a bit of coffee and it’s better, still super powerful though.

Currently at a restaurant that serves a jalapeño peanut butter burger, and burgers with donuts and pizza as buns. So far the employees I’ve encountered are a white boy with a hickey, a very cool looking queer person, and a man with multiple small (healing) head injuries
The Trader Joe’s Organic Fruit Punch Beverage is not bad. At first it seems subpar because you expect it to be really sweet and it’s not, but once you get into it, it’s quite tasty. 6.7/10
Panera hot chocolate a bit mid, kinda watery, but not bad. Didn’t give me third degree burns in my mouth, so that I do appreciate. Generous 6/10.
