— aemma did not know what to say. On one hand, she felt for the princess. That this happened in her home, the place that is suppose to feel the safest. Where you assume nothing bad could happen to you and yet fanger managed to creep its way in. But on the other, she harbored resentment to this place that seemed to throw back what happened to her mother towards her face at every corner. "I think many just want to leave to avoid having to think about has transpired here but not everyone will be offered that very same thing."

She turned to face her, "i am sorry that this has happened to you. I had my reservations about the betrothal between our families. Though maybe being married to my cousin would have not been so glamorous." She joked. Maybe it was to try and break the tension or offer the girl a chance to not be so serious. "

jeyne   nodded   delicately.   everything   she   did   was   delicate,   rehearsed,   perfect   …   or   that   was   what   she   had   wished   for,   at   least.   all   her   training,   her   efforts,   snuffed   out   in   an   instant   ;   who   would   want   a   disgraced   princess   now   ?   how   would   she   ever   find   another   suitor,   when   she   was   forever   wounded   ?   “and   i   am   sorry   about   your   mother,   aemma.   dorne   has   …   there   is   a   shadow   upon   it.   i   wish   that   i   could   chase   away   the   clouds   and   return   our   beautiful   lands   to   how   they   once   were.   i   fear   that   i   will   never   look   upon   these   sands   the   same   way   again.”

she   sighed,   and   although   jeyne   did   not   smile   she   understood   that   aemma   was   searching   her   deepest   corners   and   pulling   kindness   to   the   forefront.   it   was   in   short   supply,   and   she   was   grateful   for   it.   “your   cousin   did   not   care   much   for   me.   i   know   this.   we   would   have   never   been   truly   in   love,   but   perhaps   we   could   have   been   happy   …   ”

Despite all the chaos that had occurred in certain parts of his stay in Dorne ( he had not been part of the group that had been staying in Lemonwood on that particular night nor was he at the Water Gardens during the Qoherys-Harlaw altercations ), Desmond sincerely enjoyed his trip here very much. It was such a completely opposite world and kingdom from the one he had been raised in that the Manderly was contemplating not following his family back and extending his trip here for a few more weeks.

Thus he had not bothered packing just yet and chose to wander into the Grand Bazaars that were still open within the Winding Walls. He had just purchased a beautiful batch of Dornish silk to be made as part his sister's gown as his present for her next nameday when he suddenly spied his favorite uncle not far off. Nearing the stall, he then glanced around its wares, wondering if the merchant was from Essos or Yi Ti since the Martells had also invited them. His uncle's words brough his attention back to the older man.

"It's beyond stunning, Uncle Alaric," Desmond breathed in awe as his bent down to closer inspect the large ring upon Alaric's palm. The heavy gold ring was crafted into an exotic lotus shape, its delicate petals inlaid with iridescent purple enamel. At its center rested a fiery, drop-cut fire opal that was very reminiscent of a sunset in Dorne. "I'd say your taste in jewelry is impeccable," he grinned as he straightened up. "I've have yet to see a more beautiful ring than this so far. How much was the damage to your coin purse?" he teased.

alaric   cocked   his   head   with   interest,   noting   the   drapes   of   technicolor   silk   upon   the   arm   of   his   nephew.   perhaps   he   should   bring   a   stretch   of   rare   fabric   back   for   his   wife,   too,   or   maybe   their   young   daughter   —   she   would   twirl   until   her   skirts   soared   upon   the   air,   giggling   and   imagining   the   beauty   of   distant   and   faraway   lands.   “and   which   merchant   sold   you   such   wares,   dear   nephew   ?   perhaps   you   are   even   better   at   perusing   than   i.   can   i   trust   that   you   haggled   a   good   deal   ?   that   is   one   thing   ;   you   can   almost   see   the   joy   in   the   vendor’s   eyes   when   you   hand   over   an   extortionate   amount   of   coin.”

he   watched,   his   cheek   dimpling   at   the   sight   of   both   the   stunning   ring   and   desmond’s   interest.   alaric   saw   himself   as   not   much   of   an   uncle   at   all,   but   a   bonus   father   for   the   children   ;   there   was   a   paternal   glimmer   in   the   elder’s   blue   eyes   that   flickered   and   crackled   like   embers.   “the   purple   is   of   particular   interest   to   me.   i   think    it   would   look   incredible   upon   the   finger   of   my   wife   …   a   memento   of   our   adventures   across   the   sands.”   not   that   they   would   need   a   physical   emblem   of   the   events   of   dorne.   the   broken   hearts,   the   crashing   steel   …   he   was   glad   to   exist   on   the   periphery   of   it   all. a   sound   escaped   his   mouth,   a   noncommittal   sound   to   redirect   his   nephew.   what   his   wife   did   not   know   would   not   hurt   her.   he   could   have   worse   vices   —   alaric   had   not   even dreamed   of   visiting   one   of   many   pleasure   houses,   nor   of   even   glancing   too   long   at   a   woman   that   did   not   share   his   name.   “let   us   just   say   that   my   coffers   will   be   considerably   lighter.   perhaps   it   will   make   our   ships   sail   faster,   with   less   gold   weighing   us   down.”

Maron slowed his steps at the sight of her, hands raised, unthreatening, before she'd even finished pleading. By the blessing of Mother Rhoyne, they had found sweet Jeyne again. But at what cost? His daughter’s betrothal to the Crown Prince annulled, and the poor girl wouldn't even speak of her woes. Maron had known that he would never actually be a true father to his Deria's kids, that they would only be his step-children, but that doesn't mean he wouldn't take the effort to try. And gods, he wants to continue trying.

"Sweetling, I'm not here to take you anywhere. Sit if you like." He lowered himself onto the low stone edge of the garden bed, as much as his age allowed, close enough to offer comfort, far enough not to crowd her.

the   sight   of   dear,   sweet   maron   was   welcome   relief.   jeyne   had   half   expected   for   a   guard   to   find   her,   to   seize   her   by   the   arm   and   drag   her   like   a   stray   cat   back   within   the   palace   walls.   she   knew   the   danger   of   the   outside   —   understood   that   she   could   be   stolen   away   just   as   easily   as   she   had   before   —   but   she   had   missed   the   air   on   her   skin,   the   sound   of   the   birds,   the   kiss   of   the   flower   petals   …   at   the   very   least,   she hoped   her   guardian   would   understand.   as   he   sat,   so   did   she   ;   jeyne’s   hands   gathered   her   skirts   and   they   fell   around   her   like   drapery. 

“i   cannot   be   imprisoned   once   again,   now   that   i   am   returned.   i   cannot   sit   and   watch   out   of   the   windows   any   longer.   what   …   ”   her   voice   wavered,   and   jeyne   lowered   her   gaze   to   the   tops   of   her   shoes,   “   …   what   will   become   of   me   now,   a   disgraced   princess   without   a   prince   on   my   arm   ?   who   will   desire   me   now   ?   ”

In the following days from the wedding, security had been tight. Eleana had been lucky enough to escape most of the chaos, but her sister Jeyne was not as lucky. In fact, she may have gotten the worst of it being kidnapped.

She had followed her sister outside of Sunspear, worried to not be by her side for more than a minute.

Instead of speaking, Eleana ran up to Jeyne and hugged tightly. "I would never do that" The younger princess whispered. "I was so scared" Her voice shook. It took Eleana hours to stop crying over the disappearance of her sister.

"Don't leave me. Don't leave me ever again"

jeyne’s   dark   eyes   widened   before   they   glistened,   and   then   tears   streaked   her   pale   cheeks.   to   be   back   in   the   arms   of   her   sister,   to   feel   the   warmth   and   the   familiar   scent,   the   brush   of   her   hair   and   the   timbre   of   her   voice   …   they   were   all   luxuries   the   princess   had   thought   she   would   never   hear   again.   what   a   relief,   to   be   back   home.   and   yet   she   was   poisoned   by   a   certain   sense   of   wanderlust   ;   being   cooped   within   the   palace   was   too   much,   especially   when   her   mind   was   wracked   with   concern   for   her   betrothed   …   her   once - betrothed.   “me   too,   dear   sister.   i   thought   i   would   never   see   you   again.”   it   was   then   that   a   sob   escaped   her,   and   jeyne’s   delicate   hands   folded   over   her   mouth   to   hold   them   back.   “i   would   have   never   left   you.   not   by   my   own   will.   please   know   that.”

Gwin had lingered near the docks for any free time she had during this forsaken wedding. She would have to make sure and ask her father as to the Ashen Promise's plan.

She lingered by Robin the rat. Gwin knew he was afraid of the sea, and was tempted to push him in it just to see him thrash. "You are scared of the sea. Scared of the thing we all crawled out of" Gwin narrowed her eyes. "I would hardly call you an ironborn by anything other than blood"

The Drowned God could always use another sacrifice.

"My family's ship is much faster than yours" She gave Robin an unhinged smile. "I cannot guarantee you will stay dry"

robin   the   rat.   a   childhood   taunt,   a   ghost   from   when   they   had   been   young   ;   their   nose   twitched   as   they   watched   gwin,   turning   their   head   dismissively   away.   “not   scared.   haunted,”   a   correction   that   meant   nothing,   robin   understood,   but   a   correction   nonetheless   —   a   distinction   that   he   had   spoken   to   his   father   time   and   time   again,   in   order   for   him   not   to   be   thrown   asunder.

“i   am   ironborn   enough.   who   are   you   to   speak   of   my   value   ?   i   am   sure   there   are   plenty   of   reasons   why   the   drowned   god   would   think   of   you   as   an   affront,   too.   we   all   have   parts   of   ourselves   we   long   to   change.”   in   that   moment   they   wished   for   andrik.   they   wished   for   their   brother’s   strength.   they   wished   for   an   escape.   “it   is   not   a   matter   of   simply   getting   wet.   if   you   have   nothing   helpful   to   say,   i   suggest   you   cease   speaking.”

Andrik had observed the interaction from the corner of his eye. He harboured no feverish desire to return to Pyke, truly; all those who knew its damp and gloomy walls well enough would be hard-pressed to yearn for it. A castle of grey-black stone upon grey-black stone, centuries-old green lichen creeping through every seam. Salt, smoke, and mildew in the air; Pyke was hardly a place built for living. It was meant for surviving, enduring. And if his ilk were to be believed, for the making of hard people.

His gaze had remained steadfastly on Robin and the fellow Ironborn amusing himself at his brother's dread of the sail home. The Silent Current awaited not far away, low beneath the blazing Dornish sun. When he stepped forward at last, the gravel in his voice was enough to dash the intruder's courage at once. "If you've no wisdom to offer, I suggest you turn on your heel and be as you were." His arms were folded loosely across his chest, clicking his tongue when the man turned away. "Useless."

With that mutter, he lifted his gaze to Robin. Words of comfort had never come easily to Andrik — a self-taught language, and one he spoke with less confidence than he would have liked. "Sail with me. She is named the Silent Current with good reason. I will steer her with a steady hand." An inkling of a smile nudged at his lips. "And if you're about to question my ability to captain, I should like to remind you that there are far worse companions to be found at sea."

wide - eyed   and   buoyed   by   relief,   robin   turned   their   head   toward   the   only   person   that   had   ever   truly   had   their   back.   it   did   not   matter   that   the   pair   of   them   shared   no   mother   —   they   were   united   by   the   blood   of   their   father   and   the   salt   of   the   seas   ;   that   was   more   than   enough   for   a   bond   that   was   iron - strong.   “brother,”   a   smile   was   offered   and,   slowly,   they   allowed   their   legs   to   uncoil.   it   was   then   that   their   moss - pool   eyes   rolled   and,   just   as   he   had   done   when   they   were   young   boys,   robin   repeated   the   words   of   andrik   like   an   echo.   “yes.   you   are   right.  useless.” 

not   all   lannisters   carried   the   roar   of   a   lion.   not   all   tullys   wore   scales.   not   all   greyjoys   were   born   with   the   sea   legs   of   a   kraken,   and   robin   certainly   was   not   one   of   them.   was   it   so   impossible   for   others   to   believe,   that   a   boy   of   iron   birth   could   not   align   with   the   water   violence   of   the   ocean   ?   “silent   current   … ”   the   words   tasted   metallic   upon   their   tongue.   there   was   still   a   wariness,   a   discomfort,   at   the   thought   of   willingly   approaching   the   waves   without   balm   or   tincture.   “there   is   much   i   question   about   you,   andrik,   but   your   seafaring   is   not   one   of   them.   i   have   just   …   never   quite   recovered   from   my   battle   with   the   waters.” a   once   drowned   rat,   steffon   needed   to   ingest   enough   poppy   milk   to    fell   a   wild   horse   in   order   to   be   thrown   beneath - deck   of   one   of   his   father’s   sailing   ships.   perhaps   the   same   would   not   be   true   for   those   sailed   by   his   brother.   they   shifted   nervously   upon   the   rock,   twitching   his   nose   in   an   almost   rodent - like   manner.   “you   will   keep   me   safe   ?   ”

— she turned up to lock her gaze upon the martell princess. Their friendship was tedious at the moment and aemma did not know how to feel. She remembered the note her aunt spoke at the wedding before she was whisked away after the incidents occurred. What the people wanted and from she heard and now was seeing, it seems there was still rememnats.

"Aenyx is getting better, last my father told me. From what I heard he is already back to himself so he must be itching to go back to his home." She admitted. "Nobody thought this would happen." The lady Arryn said as she closed her book, not caring what page she was on and knowing she'll just reread it during her journey home. "From what happened to you and everything that transpired."

there   weren’t   words.   nothing   jeyne   could   have   said   would   heal   her   heart,   would   strengthen   the   loose   strings   between   them   ;   she   wished   that   she   could   speak   like   a   balm   but   instead,   when   her   lips   parted,   she   felt   as   though   the   entire   world   could   crash   around   them.   “i   can   imagine,”   sighed   the   princess,   “that   most   wish   to   return   home.   i   cannot   blame   them.   dorne   is   my   heart,   and   it   is   broken.”

dark   eyes   did   not   lift   to   meet   aemma’s.   it   was   hard   enough,   to   sit   beside   a   woman   that   would   no   longer   be   part   of   her   family,   to   look   upon   a   stark   reminder   of   how   her   life   would   now   change.   instead   jeyne   focused   on   her   fingertips,   recoiling   at   the   sight   —   for   the   first   time   in   her   life   —   of   dirt   beneath   the   nail.   a   remnant   of   her   kidnapping,   she   supposed   ;   a   stain,   a   memory   that   would   never   wash   clean.   “i   did   not   wish   for   any   of   this.   if   i   had   known   that   our   betrothal   would   lead   to   such   heartache   …   well,   perhaps   i   would   have   not   held   on   so   tightly.”

dorne   was   beautiful,   far   removed   from   the   north   that   had   kissed   him   between   the   eyes   and   raised   him   like   a   mother.   matters   of   politics   ...   well,   they   did   not   bother   alaric   enough   to   involve   himself   in   such   affairs.   so   long   as   his   family   —   his   nieces   and   nephews,   his   wife   and   children   —   were   safe,   the   knight   was   content   to   walk   the   baked   sands   of   warmer   regions   until   permission   to   leave   was   granted.   he   slowed   as   he   approached   a   table   of   coloured   jewels   ;   some   dangled   from   the   ends   of   ornate   chains,   others   were   set   in   rings   of   silver   and   gold.   he   plucked   a   ring   from   its   velvet   cloth   bed,   feeling   the   weight   and   cold   within   his   palm.   “this   will   do   nicely.”   words   to   nobody   in   particular,   although   he   felt   the   shadow   at   his   side.   the   lord   then   turned   to   his   newfound   company   and   presented   the   metalwork   with pride.   “what   do   you   think   ?   i   want   to   bring   something   home   for   my   wife,   a   memento   of   my   time   here   in   dorne.   it   is   far   more   elaborate   than   us   in   the   north   are   used   to.”

to   return   home   was   to   sail,   and   robin   was   not   entirely   sure   they   were   ready   to   embark   once   again   upon   the   waves.   the   greyjoys   had   been   through   the   motions   so   many   times   that   it   was   no   longer   a   burden   ;   in   fact,   they   barely   thought   anything   of   it   whenever   the   siblings   returned   home   after   noble   affairs.   a   healthy   dose   of   poppy   milk   and,   within   minutes,   robin   was   reduced   to   nothing   more   than   a   sack   of   straw.   darkness   would   fill   the   space   between   leaving   dorne   and   awaking   in   his   bed,   curled   up   like   a   hibernating   animal,   sheltered   beneath   thick   blankets   that   kept   out   the   cold   spray   of   the   sea   that   surrounded   them   ...   it   seemed   so   easy,   and   yet   a mask of reluctance   was   pasted   across   their   rat - like   features.   “i   can   feel   you   lingering,”   a   cock   of   their   head,   a   scrunch   of   his   nose.   robin’s   life   was   half   lived   in   the   body   of   vermin,   so   much   so   that   some   of   those   tendencies   lingered   when   their   consciousness   returned   to   humanity.   “you   are   wondering   what   all   others   wonder,   aren’t   you   ?   how   can   ironborn   be   so   afraid   of   the   sea.”   his   father   had   asked   the   same.   his   mother.   the   only   true   understanding   laid   within   the   mind   of   his   brother,   a   kindness   shared   only   krakens   who   knew   how   harsh   the   tides   could   be.   “i   just   wish   there   was   an   easier   way   to   return   to   my   home.”

what   had   jeyne   done   to   upset   the   gods   so   ?   for   them   to   take   everything   away,   to   topple   her   house   of   cards,   to   leave   her   without   a   husband,   with   bruises   upon   her   skin,   with   dreams   marred   by   nightmares   each   and   every   night.   since   her   return   she   had   not   seen   aenyx,   only   heard   through   others   that   he   was   alive   and   breathing   —   by   some   miracle.   they   never   had   been   perfect   together,   but   it   had   never   mattered   to   the   princess.   so   long   as   they   appeared   perfect   she   had   assumed   nobody   would   ever   know   the   truth.   being   outside   of   sunspear’s   grounds   was   forbidden,   at   least   until   she   was   healed,   yet   jeyne   had   used   a   pocket   of   independence   to   slip   into   a   blind   spot   of   the   palace   guards.   instead   she   was   enjoying   one   of   the   many   flower   gardens   in   the   surrounding   areas,   soaking   in   the   air   on   her   skin   and   the   velvet - soft   petals   against   her   fingers.   the   sound   of   footsteps   broke   her   stupor.   jeyne’s   head   of   night - black   hair   swivelled,   and   she   stood   as   quickly   as   her   legs   would   allow.   “please,”   she   whispered,   “do   not   make   me   return   to   the   palace.   not   yet.   my   family   are   terrified   i   will   be   stolen   again.”

— the heat was a welcome distraction to the Arryn girl as she watched the carts and carriages slowly being loaded from the bench she sat at in the courtyard. now that news spread of the betrothal broken and her cousin's health getting better, aemma was eager to leave. she was dreading the ride back home but the sooner she was back in her mountains, the sooner her mood would improve.

already planning the copious amount of time she was going to be in skies with her dragon, aemma felt someone approach. she had no more tears to shed after the little stint that was played at her late mother's expense, anger seemed to be the only emotion she could feel. she tried her best to focus on her book but it seemed she kept rereading the same paragraph over and over again. "if you wish to sit, you are more welcome to do." the paled hair lady commented. "though be aware, there is lots of running back and forth so you might want to watch your feet if you wished for them to not be trampled on. unless it is your hearts desire." she said.

the   world   jeyne   had   once   known   had   been   uprooted.   no,   just   simply   uprooted   —   she   had   been   dragged   kicking   and   screaming   from   it,   and   was   only   just   beginning   to   adapt   to   the   newer   surroundings.   a   betrothal   shattered.   a   face   marred   with   purple   bruising   that   took   days   to   settle.   perhaps   her   heart   would   never   feel   mended,   now   that   her   marriage   was   no   longer   meant   to   be. dornish   streets   —   those   that   had   raised   her,   those   that   once   been   her   home   —   were   now   cursed.   as   jeyne   walked   she   wondered   whether   each   jumping   shadow   would   bring   another   captor,   whether   she   would   be   torn   once   again   from   her   home.   leaving   without   a   chaperone   was   forbidden   and   yet   there   she   was,   dark - haired   and   red - eyed,   drifting   towards   aemma   arryn   as   if   some   sort   of   ghost.   the   princess   lowered   to   sit,   coughed   delicately   to   clear   her   throat. “is   he   well ? ”   she   asked.   only   a   matter   of   days   before   her   and   aemma   were   promised   to   be   family.   now,   it   was   as   though   she   was   sitting   beside   a   stranger.   “this   is   all   ...   i   never   thought   things   could   be   so   wrong.”

the  moon  illuminated  jasper's  alabaster  skin,  and  as  he  watched  the  way  it  swirled  the  tides  he  wondered  whether  his  lover  was  gazing  upon  the  same  night sky.  if  only  he  could  call  to  him,  sing  to  him,  tell  ronan  that  he  was  not  the  enemy  —  not  to  them,  anyway.  throughout  the  festivities  they  had  heard  nothing  but  barbed  words  towards  the  islanders.  the  liege  remained  tight - lipped,  mumbling  his  replies  and  focusing  more  on  the  banquet  and  displays  of  violence  than  much  else.  each  insult  felt  like  a  stab  to  their  own  chest  ;  when  would  he  look  upon  those  blue  eyes  again ?  would  he  ever ?  against  the  rocks,  jasper  brought  their  knees  up  to  their  chest  and  looked  across  the  glittering  water.  if  only  they  weren't  so  scared.  if  only  they  could  take  one  of  the  boats  and  sail  to  lonely  light  themself.  “i  can  feel  you  staring  at  me,”  their  head  barely  twitched,  but  it  was  directed  towards  the  shadow  in  their  periphery.  “i  am  not  going  to  return  to  the  festivities,  if  that  is  what  you  want.  there  is  nothing  for  me  there.  i  am  just  waiting  until  i  am  permitted  to  return  home.”

the  celebrations  had  tapered  off  for  the  evening,  and  after  his  dear  wife  tended  to  the  scratches  and  scrapes  earned  in  the  melee  felyx  was  watching  the  sun  set  from the great cliffs of casterly rock.  even  the  waters  seemed  to  shimmer  with  gold  ;  he  was  glad  for  the  invitation,  for  the  opportunity  to  watch  his  dear  friend  celebrate  another  passing  nameday,  and  for  a  moment  of  respite  from  changing  dirty  linens  and  burping  his  newborn  daughters.  being  a  father  had  been  all  felyx  hightower  had  ever  wanted.  after  five  years  of  disappointment,  the  gods  had  graced  him  and  mira  with  two  miracles  —  perhaps  the  wait  had  all  been  worth  it,  in  the  end.  “lady  swann,”  he  smiled  as  the  raven - haired  woman  approached,  “i  trust  you  have  caught  up  with  my  wife ?  i  am  sure  there  is  much  to  talk  about.  she  misses  you  when  you  are  apart.”  a  slight  hesitation.  he  chuckled,  lowering  his  head.  “my  apologies.  i  am  usually  less  worn  than  this.  i  fear  i  may  have  overestimated  myself,  and  underestimated  my  age,  when  it  came  to  signing  up  for  the  melee.  i  am  not  as  young  as  i  once  was.”

there  was  a  certain  type  of  freedom  that  came  with  being  beside  the  coast.  jeyne  was  more  at  home  in  the  towers  of  nightsong,  quietly  sewing  or  brushing  up  on  some  light  reading,  but  the  markets  were  a  perfect  opportunity  to  stock  up  on  some  silks  and  threads  that  were  harder  to  acquire  back  in  the  stormlands.  arms  were  filled  with  materials,  and  although  she  cradled  samples  of  every  color  —  garnet  red,  the  green  of  spring  meadows,  slate - blue  as  if  plucked  from  the  waters  surrounding  lannisport  itself  —  she  still  wore  her  infamous  black.  how  long  would  it  take,  until  the  grief  dissipated  enough  that  it  was  no  longer  a  dear  friend ?  like  a  drop  of  ink  in  water  they  were  waiting  for  the  pigment  to  spread,  to  fade,  to  one  day  leave  her  clear  again  and  open  to  move  on.  one  day  she  would  need  to  marry.  one  day,  perhaps,  she  would  need  to  have  children  again.  the  thoughts  had  her  staring  into  nothing,  and  as  she  came  back  to  herself  jeyne  realised  they  had  been  staring  at  the  lady  of  harrenhal  for  quite  some  time.  “my  apologies,  lady  lothston,  i  was  lost  in  my  own  thoughts  ...  ”  they  breathed,  “isn't  the  fabric  beautiful ? ”

lonely  light  was  not  so  lonely  for  elowen.  her  dear  cousins  warmed  the  rock,  and  although  she  needed  to  sail  to  spend  time  with  her  family  she  was  far  from  burdened  by  the  trek.  it  was  worth  it,  to  look  upon  the  beauty  of  reyna  (  and  the  stoic,  hardened  features  of  ronan  ),  to  convene  with  the  fellow  islanders  that  might  as  well  have  been  her  siblings.  “we  have  much  to  discuss,  dear  cousin.  i  hope  that  you  are  well ? ”  greetings  were  not  needed.  she  moved  on  the  air  like  a  ghost,  taking  hold  of  reyna's  hands  in  hers.  “the  seas  are  ruthless  tonight.  i  do  hope  there  are  some  late  arrivals  to  the  casterly  rock  celebrations  —  those  tides  are  not  for  the  faint  hearts  of  the  westerners.”  often  she  would  look  out  into  the  icy  bay,  wondering  how  many  skeletons  haunted  the  depths.  lannisters  and  plumms  and  reynes.  cleganes  and  crakehalls  and  leffords.  it  did  not  matter  which  banner  they  flew,  when  the  drowned  god  took  their  skin  and  their  souls  along  with  it.  “i  am  surprised  your  brother  is  not  off  with  his  rat - faced  liege.”

the  iron  islands  weren't  known  for  their  culinary  achievements.  there  was  a  lack  of  wild  game,  not  like  the  abundance  available  on  the  mainland,  and  although  fish  leapt  from  the  water  as  if  they  ached  to  be  eaten  there  was  only  so  much  one  woman  could  take.  at  sea,  where  the  days  were  long  and  the  conditions  brutal,  those  aboard  areon's ship  needed  to  take  matters  into  their  own  hands  —  it  was  truly  a  feat  of  human  engineering  just  what  could  be  pickled  in  jars.  “it  does  not  smell  good,  but  i  assure  you  it's  ...  well,  it's  palatable,”  she  couldn't  help  but  chuckle,  thinking  of  how  many  of  her  crew mates  had  lost  their  lunch  over  the  edge  of  the  ship  when  the  current  became  too  treacherous.  not  elowen,  though.  she  was  a  saltcliffe,  and  saltcliffes  were  made  to  walk  amongst  the  decks.  “i  believe  the  mainlanders  will  be  eating  like  kings  across  the  water.  i  am  glad  to  be  missing  the  fanfare,  the  way  that  westerlanders  bathe  in  gold  as  if  it  were  mud,  but  some  venison  would  not  go  amiss.  maybe  some  steamed  plums.”
