“Very well.” the man said while turning around and stepping right past the woman—something that seemed to annoy her greatly, much to his amusement. Her expression hardened even more when he stretched out his hand towards the darkest corner of the room.

“Come here, darling,” he spoke. “We have quite some work to do.”

For a heartbeat, it was silent. Then a figure stepped out of the shadows. Another woman, though this one wasn’t as beautiful at the first. She could’ve been, perhaps, if it wasn’t for the nasty burn scars covering one half of her face. The man didn’t seem to mind. Slowly, he raised his hand to brush a stand of her raven hair behind her ear, away from her bad eye, before he ran his fingers over her cheek. She leaned into his touch in response, her eyes falling shut.

“Go fly ahead, my love,” he muttered into her ear. “I will take care of things on this end.”

The woman opened her eyes slowly, then giving a quick nod. Slowly, she stepped back and he watched as the shadows enveloped her once more, pulling her back until she had fully disappeared. Where she went, he didn’t know, nor did he care. As long as she did her job well, he’d be pleased. And he knew that she was just too eager to please.

For a moment she froze as if deep in thought, before she turned around again, her gaze fixing on Varian. “Well, mostly undisturbed anyways.”
